It looks like a lovely light snow on the ground, but when you test it with your foot, there is no stepping into snow, there is the banana peel effect of treading on a hard slick surface. Going down the driveway slope to retrieve my New York Times had the potential excitement of a Disney E-ride.

Another nice day expected here. Sunny, -6C with 20-30kph wind (-13WC). Positively balmy, actually. The plows were out once removing slush when it was not required. I expect they were field testing quip and practicing for what will inevitably happen. I have a feeling we will are in for a relatively mild winter with fair amount of snow but it's hard to make any true predictions without consulting Moter Nature... damn I miss the woods. My heart aches for the woods. Just trees and wild animals. I hate being cooped up in the city with all these people, half of whom are less intelligent and less polite than the rest of us. Thank goodness I have such nice cyberfriends.

The dogs and I have been doing fine, but I suspect cabin fever will begin to set in if it doesn't warm up again pretty soon.

It's 16F outside my house right now, out of the wind. It's still snowing. We're supposed to get 4 inches or more. Not much, by itself, but on top the what we already have on the ground, well, I'll have to tunnel out to the street tunnel the city makes where the roads are.

SRS... no valve on the hose bib? Round here, we got em. Most folks got frost proof hose bibs but we all got a valve on em at minimum.

Was 9 and rainy here yesterday. Positively balmy! 0 today with mostly sunshine. Alas, first quarter moon is on Monday so we will now, in my estimation, begin the long dark night huddled together listening to CBC Radio so we will know when we can wear short pants again. Not that I would, of course. Short pants are for children and those who think they "look good" in em. I have nice legs, as I have been told, but I do not see the need to assist skeeters in procreation for the sake of vanity.

Can't think why they'd be any happier than hoomings in that kind of extreme suffering. My Mudflanks McFuzzbutt uses a blanket if it goes below 55F at night.

We're supposed to get down to 10F tonight. A little chilly for the likes of most folks in North Texas. The faucets outside are covered and I need to leave some water dripping in the kitchen sink so pipes don't freeze in the wall. Damn but it's cold, even the dogs aren't happy about it.

Ordnance from the audience? I'm shocked.

Now that I think about it, those mortar shells were coming from the audience.

I am far, far more than you know or, rather, think you know. Yes, I have starred in films, plays, and television while living a simple life as an ordinary librarian. Shaw, Shakespeare, Odets, Williams -- I've done 'em all. Started young, about 4 years old, in local productions and quickly went from grade school plays to the local theater group. Then I answered my country's call and pretty much gave up my career in the theater except for a few plays we did in bunkers and foxholes to keep up the morale of the other troops, something hard to do in a blizzard at -24F and the hard thing in your pocket isn't a gun or a banana but a hand grenade and mortar shells are exploding around you and your audience.

Yeah, there's a lot you don't know about me. Used to sing, too -- used the stage name of "Blind Lemon Jefferson Airplane."

But I don't like to brag.

Take a pound of ground bison meat and shred it into a pan containing a little olive oil and some Italian mixed spices, salt and pepper. Stir and chop up until browned. Can be stirred into the brown rice when the rice is done, or mixed with chili or salsa to make a topping for servings of rice.

Scrambled bison are the elite bison. They are highly trained in warfare by such high calibre instructors like olddude. They are on 24/7/365 alert status. They have backup provided by the Dutch Manatees and, do NOT repeat this, the KCNBSASs (Kent County New Brunswick Secret Animal Services) and that includes The Mooze Division and The Otters with their Scarlet Ascots and jaunty berets who do recon beyond and Eye In The Sky Ravens and so many others... I shouldn't say it but... The Ermine Elite do not just do recon; The Ermine Elite will chew yer ankles off!

It's one degree F. here at the moment. The bison are all frozen and even the antelope are frozen in mid-leap. The penguins at the zoo are begging to come in and get warm and the hibernating bears have sent the Salvation Army a request for quilts. Even the hotpots at Yellowstone have become tepidpots.

One of my in-house delicacies has been providing us dinner for several days. Two cups brown rice (long grain), a small can of corn, some diced celery and onion, a cup of fine-ground pecans and a cup of fine-ground almonds. All kinds of proteins and tasty as hell.
You stir the other stuff into the rice-cooker when it is about half or 2/3 complete in cooking the rice. It's very nice served with some beef chili as topping, or just some scrambled bison meat.

Some days, only gravity can ground me. Today, I feel untethered... lost... floating in the ether. Well, more so in the grounded type of ether. If ya catch my draft.

On another knot in the string of life, the older I get, the colder I get. ARTHUR ITIS MUST DIE! His sorryattic brother is on the top of my hit list. Fuck me it hurts! Fingers, wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, knees... alas, I suppose it's only physical pain. Physical pain never bothered me much, no matter how severe, until even moderate pain became chronic... "in perpetuity" type of pain. Wake ya up... piss ya off all the time you are awake. Stop ya from playin a Bodhran (insert nasty joke here)

It was so cold here at Thanksgiving that the turkeys came out of the ovens wearing parkas to keep warm. Odors froze in midair, and don't even think about what froze in midair in the outhouses.

Tomorrow is supposed to be colder than today, and there is a Warning that gravity might freeze solid in some places. If that happens the emergency services will be passing out gravity to those who need it.

Gosh whiz, the temperature here has gone all the way plumb up to 1F (or -17.22 C., if you prefer). The wind chill is -12 F, or -24.44 C.

Cold? You couldn't HANDLE cold! Why, the sun shone for 45 seconds the other day and both Hill and Mountain Home Air Force Bases were swamped by calls reporting a "brightly glowing flying saucer."

Speaking of which, here's a photo of a recent attack made by space aliens against the once-thriving town of Muldoon, Idaho. Only that wall still stands, and framed in the empty window you can see the aliens making their escape in their interstellar battleship. Earth is under attack, and only the Idaho Legion stands between total conquest of our lovely Blue Planet! Please let me know how much USD you will contribute to the Legion's efforts...and then follow through on it.

Rap... Wooly Bully season is closed but I am sure Manitoba DNR will take your licence application and the applicable fee for the upcoming hunt in 12,013, subject to global swarming, of course. Now, yer furry snipe season is on but ya gotta hire a guide with a furry snipe dog with proper documentation same as ya gotta, by law, have a dog fer huntin woodcock in my province, The Picture Province (my old man used to say 'underdevloped and overexposed'). Furry snipe dogs are hard ta find, let alone a guide what has one so ya had better bring one with ya. I suggest ya search at kijiji or ask that Craig fellah but buyer beware eh? Ya better check out the dog's papers with the authorities to make sure all is in order, on the up and up, lean and clean, legit, cool, and, above all, he's igloo broken.

I have just retrieved the weekly grocery fliers from Mum. It's windy, about zero and raining/snowing wet crap. I was at my back door and noticed the rats with wings on the power and com wires feeding my house. They looked sad as well as cold and wet, bobbing around to maintain their perches against the inclement weather. Got my first good deed of the day! I sang a few lines of the ear worm I have had for two days... No Rain by Blind Melon. I'm sure they agreed with the last line... I guess that only proves that I'm insa-a-a-ane (that's the way *I* sing it). None of them clapped but I know it's just that they are trying to stay as warm and dry as possible.

""Sir. I know this as he was speaking quite loudly and giving the lad a hard time. lad has only just started working here."

I was walking fairly close and I heard the man raise his voice. He was speaking quite loudly and giving the lad a hard time. I made a beeline for him and said, very calmly (whadda you laffin about?), "Sir. This lad has only just started working here. Is there some way I may be of assistance?"

Still not as it should be but certainly less confusing. My apologies to all, including my former self.

I bagged 3 good deeds within an hour of hitting the fresh air mid morn. Got several more later on and one BIG one. I was up ta yer Sobeys fer a walk and ta pick up a couple a sets a Kissmeass dishes for presents on Merry Ho Ho. A man of about my age stopped a lad in his late teens who was wearing Sobeys garb. I was walking fairly close and I heard the man raise his voice. I made a beeline for him and said, very calmly (whadda you laffin about?), "Sir. I know this as he was speaking quite loudly and giving the lad a hard time. lad has only just started working here. Is there some way I may be of assistance?" He cocked head a bit and asked, "Do you work here?" I replied, "No sir. I come here for a walk when the weather is inclement so I walk here pretty darn often (insert head bob and slight chuckle for emphasis) and I could probably help you." He was obviously puzzled and said, in a tone I did not like, "Where are the potato chips and snacks and stuff. "Can't remember the aisle number but I can easily show you." and I wheeled my cart around and started walking, whereupon Nick said "Thank you Uncle Gary." After we were out of earshout, I said "Aisle 7. That lad is autistic." and I pulled a left and walked away.

Actually, it was two good deeds in one on accounta I wanted to go Wildebeeste on his ass. Well, I did scowl when I told him where to go. >;-)

The Idaho Legion has been defending Earth from the sinister machinations and intentions of unknown space aliens for quite some time now (as seen in this photo of the Legion defending against a recent vicious attack).

But the Legion needs support, preferably monetary, so that it can buy the tools needed (you don't just go down to the local market and pick up yttrium-gallium-fluoride laser crystals). So please, for the sake of our Earth, give all that you can. I'll be happy to act as middleman for this.
