I knew about Pulaskis, yes; but the rest of your post is too fluid, tangential, and randomly impulsive to make much sense.

Worse than reporting life on the moon? Or the petrified man? Or solar armor? Or the girl who got pregnant by a bullet? Or G. Washington's 161 year old nurse? Or the gold hoax of the US Civil War that messed up the stock market? Or the rush to judgement on the USS Maine that led to the Spanish-American War? Or Madoff? Or Ponzi? Or the Hitler diaries? Tsk, tsk, Amos. If I hadn't seen you personally in the flesh (so to speak) I'd think you might be a hoax.

Did you hear about the tool that can be used to chop trees and to grub up the ground? No, it's not a hoe-ax, it's called a pulaski -- after the guy who made the first one and they've dug many miles of fire line.

United Morons of America, DBA the RNC, is getting whackier by the day. It strikes me as a sort of "group Alzheimer's" syndrome.

Media echo-boxes don't help much, though. Wht an inane thing American journalism has become. Sigh.

I don't eat cereal. Haven't since I was about 12 years old. Sometimes I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal, but my usual breakfast is quiche Lorraine, sausage patties, a banana, and a large glass of iced tea. That provides fruit, a bread-like substance, protein, healthy fats, cheese, onions, bacon, caffeine. There is also milk in the quiche. Fruit, cereal, milk, bread, and butter, just like Mr. Wizard said.

Yes. Even that bowl of cereal eaten over the kitchen counter means you thought ahead and bought cereal and milk. Give yourself more credit!

So organized that meals are planned in advance. Sigh.

[rubs hands together] Eggplant and chicken Parmesan season is here - the garden is producing and I'll make some to put in the freezer for individual meals, and a couple of larger casseroles for when company comes over. MOM loves that with a plate of spaghetti and a glass of red wine.

's okay, gnu. The small arms in Canada are now produced by Colt Canada, a subsidiary of Colt firearms. Canada hasn't produced a quality military rifle. Here's what is said about the Ross Rifle:

[The deficiencies of the Ross] rifles were made apparent during the Second Battle of Ypres in April 1915. The rifle showed poor tolerance of dirt when used in field conditions, particularly the screw threads operating the bolt lugs, jamming the weapon open or closed. Another part of the jamming problem came from the bolt's outer face hitting the bolt stop, then deforming the thread shape. The bolt could also be disassembled for routine cleaning and inadvertently reassembled in a manner that would fail to lock but still allow a round to be fired, leading to serious injury or death of the operator as the bolt flew back into into his face. Another well-known deficiency was the tendency for the bayonet to fall off the rifle when the weapon was fired.

"Well, dang! My bayonet just fell off, eh?" "Probably should have seen the doctor after seeing that young lady, Sam."

My brother, a Vietnam combat vet, was upset about it. He's a former city councilman, a former school board member, and retired from the Illinois State Police. You just don't go shooting your husband in the face when he's asleep and then call the cops in A****s, Illinois! Too few people in town as it is!

Live where my brother does.

Yesterday, a neighbor's wife killed her husband by shooting him in the face while he was sleeping and then calling the police; she was sitting on the porch when the cops got there. These folks lived immediately across the street, and the last murder in the town was about 25 years ago. Their son was born two days after my brother's third son and the two have been friends almost literally since the day they were born. She was taken to the county jail and booked with first degree murder, bond at $1,000,000. No motive yet, but they had been married 32 years.

I was just kinda wonderin', eh? If Harper (the crime Minister of Canada) brokered a deal with the Saudis for Canuck companies to sell them $10B to $15B worth of arms, as has been posted on many sites (I haven't verified this), did he check to see if they have a PAL*? I mean, did they take the Firearms Safety Course? If you wanna go huntin' ta put food on the table up in the fly infested bog country of Kent County, New Brunswick with a single shot break action shotgun, ya gotta have a PAL, right? Right? Safety course. Background checks? Get yer wivessss to sign off on the application? Ya know, eh? I mean... safety first, right?

* Possession and acquisition licence.

Oh now, THAT is gonna leave a mark. But, there is no blood poring profusely from said injury so it's only my pride that is actually injured. As I am bald, I always were a hat. In summer, a hat defends against the sun and, in winter, a hat defends against the cold. So, said will cover the "mark". It's not that I would be embarrassed by said mark. Rather, it's when people ask me what happened and I reply, "I zigged." Few get it and explaining a joke is, as you know, just a shitty thing to have to do. Although, such does help me sort out the stunnedasmearses for future reference.

All said and done, it's the perfect excuse to apply a McCain's frozen Texas Chicken pizza to my wounded ego as I.... drum roll please... hit 171.8# this AM! And! I am piling that down on a half of a rib steak. I couldn't help it. Honest. I cooked one for Mum and I gnawed the meat off the rib bone and I went berserk! I served her and immediately cooked the other one from the two pack and scarfed down half of it. I don't think I will even bother to take my blood pressure reading tomorrow.

But I know, deep in my heart, that this is not a bad thing, because it is what you always wanted.

In Everts' classic work on being lost in Yellowstone for 37 days back in the 19th Century he remarks on using hot pots to cook his thistle roots. He also broke through the crust of earth around a hot zone while sleeping and badly scalded his hip. Even so, his was the longest time anyone has ever been lost in Yellowstone NP and lived to tell about it.

I, for one, am grateful beyond words that where I live is not susceptible to hurricanes or tsunamis. Everything else, yes, but not those. I am, however, waiting for the oceans to raise high enough that my property values skyrocket because I own beachfront property.

Imagine: a warm, sandy beach (because of the Yellowstone caldera), the sky a glow overhead (due to Idaho National Laboratory), the waves gently lapping against the palm trees (global warming)....

Prime in form, but not of prime importance.

Hey, Mom!! I just had a GREAT birthday. Drove to LA for a huge Chinese dinner with nephews and grandchildren and affection all over.

So no I am officially and chronologically a Septuagenarian. How about THEM apples, huh? Never thought I'd see the day!

Thanks to all who made it possible--by being kind, by not stealing my lunch, by not T-boning my car at 75 mph while drunk, by refraining from setting off suitcase nukes in my vicinity, by not running planes into my house, and failing to poison my water supply. Thanks, too, tot hose who did not vaporize my part of the planet with high-intensity quasar rays from a fleet of hovering saucer-shaped vessels, and to the bowels of the earth for unleashing NO tsunamis in my general direction. Thanks to all the maintenance workers who did their jobs well enough that my planes could fly, my car keep its wheels on, my power stay on, and my gas-lines stay non-volatile. I am grateful for millions of small favors, every day.

No, Amos. I just like the song. Obsession isn't my bag and never was and never will be and I don't obsess about it because I really couldn't care less but if obsession is something you want to do then go ahead but I don't obsess about anything, you understand, because obsessing would take up too much psychic energy which I would rather put into other things than obsessing about something.

gnu, you needn't punch them. Simply remind yourself that everyone makes mistakes and that bad news sells, even if it freaks out older ladies. Otherwise you'll find yourself obsessing over it and that isn't good. It takes up too much psychic energy which you can put into other things than obsessing about something. And obsession is a good way to come down with obsessive-compulsive disorder and you wouldn't want that, so don't dwell on the weather forecasters and their doomsday prophecies. You could find yourself thinking about punching them for frightening your mother over and over, and obsessing like that isn't healthy.

A. I understand. I thought your FB post was eloquent and thoughtful.

I am enjoying this all ta hell and back! Knocked 18C tops today. Rain. Glorious rain! I fired up a roast of chicken... spuds, carrots, turnip, squash, dressing (stovetop stuffing from a package... Mum likes the crap because she can't do REAL dressing with REAL onions) and TLC. Really made her day and that's my job so I felt good too.

BTW... we had rain. We didn't have the biblical deluge that the weather terrorists predicted (SOLD at the top of every hour on the news). I could go into details but allow me to summarize. The fuckers scared my mother yet again for no good reason. I seriously wanna meet up with these fuckers and punch them. Seriously.

Monstrous historical invocations abound in every land, old friend. While I am not in favor of forgetting things, I am very much in favor of not acting on past situations, preferring to act on present ones. Obsessive remembrance is just as debilitating as obsessive forgetting.

I came out of the woods and played a gig at the Navajo Bar last night. The audience seemed pleased and it was a lot of fun. I do believe I am healing.

My blessings upon all the sibs of MOAB wherever they may ramble, from ancient Khandu write up to this very instant!
