I am here and you guys are there. Brown is out and somebody else is in. Pat has (seriously!) apparently figured a way to legally give more money to Katrina relief -- you give $1 and they get $3, but we've got to check a few things first. PM me if interested.

Whereas running about with swords, or quantum duck-dogs is safe and sensible?

This might just be about politicians...

A Pilgrims way.

I do not look for holy saints to guide me on my way
Or male and female devilkins to lead my feet astray.
If these are added I rejoice - if not, I shall not mind
So long as I have leave and choice to meet my fellow-kind.
For as we come and as we go (and deadly soon go we!)
The people, lord, Thy people, are good enough for me.

Thus I will honour pious men whose virtue shines so bright
(Though none are more amazed than I when I by chance do right)
And I will pity foolish men for woe their sins have bred
(Though ninety-nine percent of mine I brought on my own head)
And Amorite or Eremite or General Averagee
The people, Lord, Thy people are good enough for me

And when the bore me overmuch, I will not shake mine ears
Recalling many thousand such whom I have bored to tears
And when they labour to impress I will not doubt nor scoff
Since I myself have done no less and sometimes pulled it off
Yea as we are and we are not and we pretend to be
The people, lord, Thy people, are good enough for me.

And when they work me random wrong as oftentimes hath been
I will not cherish hate too long (my hands are none too clean)
And when they do me random good I will not feign surprise
No more than those whom I have cheered with wayside courtesies
But as we give and as we take - whate'er our takings be)
The people, lord, Thy people, are good enough for me.

But when I meet with frantic folk who sinfully declare
There is no pardon for their sin, the same I will not spare
Till I have proved that Heaven and Hell which in our hearts we have
Show nothing irredeemable on either side the grave
For as we live and as we die - if utter Death there be
The people, lord, Thy people, are good enough for me.

Deliver me from every pride - the Middle, High and Low
That bars me from a brother's side, whatever pride he show
And purge me from all heresies of thought and speech and pen
That bid me judge him otherwise than I am judged. Amen
That I might sing of Crowd or King or road-borne company
That I may labour in my day, vocation and degree
To provr the same by deed and name, and hold unshakenly
(Where'er I go, whate'er I know, whoe'er my neighbour be)
This single faith in Life and Death and to Eternity
" The people, lord, Thy people, are good enough for me."

Wear safety glasses or goggles AT ALL TIMES. The finger pointing there is so fast and furious right now that they could easily put your eye out.

I once did a paradigm speed shift, had Hurst paradigm shifters installed in fact, but I forgot to put in the clutch first -- pretty much exploded that ol' paradigm. Pits and bieces all over the place. It was a real job to clean it all up, lemme tell ya. Took it inta the shop where they welded it all back together with pig shit.

(See how this becomes circular, JennyO? How the beginning prefigures the end, and end contains the beginning within it? How everything past and future are contained within the "now"?)

There's another possibility - the BS around here being of the highest quality and maybe even capable of acting intelligently, might be able to sense what needs to be bound and what needs to be unbound, and do both those things SIMULTANEOUSLY! So we'll finish up with 30 stories of loosely woven but strangely cohesive BS.

Come to think of it, that's pretty much what we've got.

Wow! These paradigm shifts are really cool!

ROFLMAO, BeeDub!!

Ancient psycho-iatrists tried using scalpels to change paradigms, a crude form of modern paradigmectomy that was originally demonstrated by a blacksmith in the early 1900's who revealed something very interesting about brains. In a shop accident and explosion drove a crowbar through his frontal lobes, severing them and remaining lodged in his head. Amazingly he was functionally no different. This demonstrated to the medical community that severing the lobes did not make a zombie, and they confused "not making a zombie" with a cure for epilepsy somehow, and started the wide practice of pre-frontal lobotomies.

In later, more modern, hip sassy and sophisticated times, pardigmectomies have been attempted using other kinds of force, including electrical shock waves, insuling shock, thermal shock from ice baths, the highly sophisticated ball-bat application technique, the 'slap-'em-silly" approach. None of these has any great record of success, but they all became popular. Not because they worked, but because they fed the huge market for legitimized opportunities to practice abuse, domination and overwhelm.

Paradigmectomy also became a cottage industry across all known civilizations, using simpler techniques of nagging, yelling, intimidation, endless correction of viewpoint, irrational mood-based blackmail, and other techniques within easy reach of any third world family.

Parallel efforts have been traced through history to enforce the removal of unwanted paradigms through subjection to major institutions with vacuuous generalizations attached to them, such as "eternity", "the Universe", "the United States Government", "mankind", "education", "science", "truth", "God" "politics" and "hamburger franchises".

However, despite all these explorations, no reliable method for paradigmectomy appeared. Rumors of conspiracies suppressing workable technology are rampant. Suggestions of alien intereference are also popular as explanations for the intransigence and intractability of humans on whom pardigmectomy is attempted.

New viewpoints in the field are emerging, however. It has been suggested by researchers that one possibililty is to apply to an individual the exact tolerance and freedom to self-define that the applier would wish to have applied by the patient, a sort of high-tech Golden Rule of paradigm change. The theory seems to be that if an individual is granted sovereignty of being, he will then be free to improve the paradigms used by any particular identity he selects to optimize individual andsocial well-being. Some experimental evidence indicates that under such conditions of individual private freedom to self-define, an individual who is sufficiently acknowledged will actual perform an auto-effected paradigmectomy, although at unpredictable moments.

More remains to be learned about this possibility, but although it shows great promise, wide-spread criticism has been heaped upon the technique on the basis that "we ain't never done that before". The fact that most prior approaches have failed miserably is dismissed by critiques with the simple summation that those who point his out must hate America. Although difficult to trace, users of this argument seem convinced it has some logical connection to the issue.

But, ya know, sometimes the BS just doesn't work. Those old realities and world-views just get so concretized that no amount of BS can soften 'em and move 'em on outta there. Then sluggishness and listlessness set in, the eyes refuse to focus, and REO Speedwagon's "Dude Looks Like a Lady" becomes a mind-worm that won't leave the consciousness.

Well, if that's your current mental state, don't despair! If BS just isn't cutting the mustard*, see your doctor about the possibility of having a radical paradigmectomy! Millions have found relief from this simple and inexpensive procedure!

It's really quite simple: A fifteen minute operation in which one's old paradigm is completely removed, followed by a six-week convalescence during which one is exposed to a balanced mental diet of Plato, Sartre, Ken Wilbur and PeeWee Herman. The convalescent period is of utmost importance as studies have shown that patients released too soon after a paradigmectomy tend to become members of Satanic cults, fundamentalist Christian or Islamic sects, and members of the U.S. Senate.

* "Mustard" is not the technichally correct term for all that nasty mental constipation, but the term has been adopted extensively by laypersons. After all, they're both yellow, gooey, and repulsive to young children.

Lo, it is in truth as Rapaire has spoken in BS.

The real reason BS will save the world, as any practitioner of it knows, is by dissipating the bands of solidity which hold our most oppressive agreements in place about reality, thus enablilng change, growth, the re-generation of order and new visions of possibility. In the absence of BS, old realities get more complex and solid as they accumulate the encrustations of falisifying Time and the cumulative focussed ignoral of Reality Junkies, the sub-hypnotic subscribers to anything asserted loudly.

This is a very positive contribution to the world, I am sure.

Such a heap will continue to grow and a thousand flowers will blossom, their roots deep into the rich, nutrious, soil; their perfume wafting on the inconstant zephyrs, tickling the noses of those fortunate enough to enjoy the teasing scents thus born. And they will bring forth another thousand flowers, nay, ten thousand more, and these a hundred thousand, and soon the entire Earth will be be covered with offspring of those first few flowers, and the newly fertilized Earth will become a sea of blooms and the air a pleasure dome of scent, and all creatures will exist in harmony and peace with one another. And they will look back and say, "Blessed be MAOB, from which all Good has sprung."

I've seen pictures of Chinese men welding with pigshit!

Okay, they weren't really welding with pigshit. The pigshit was in an oxcart which was covered by a big plastic bag. The methane from the pigshit inflated the bag and was pressurized so it would flow through the welding hoses by simply putting a brick or two on top of the bag, causing it to slowly collapse. Probably wouldn't get hot enough to weld stainless steel, but it'd probably do brazing and cutting just fine.

Welcome back, man.

As to BS, while we have always suspected it might in some way save the planet, this intuitive suspicion has now been validated by no less an entity than Science itself:

"

It's electric: Cows show promise as powerplants

August 31, 2005

A new study suggests that some of the microorganisms found in cow waste may provide a reliable source of electricity.

Results showed that the microbes in about a half a liter of rumen fluid ? fermented, liquefied feed extracted from the rumen, the largest chamber of a cow's stomach ? produced about 600 millivolts of electricity. That's about half the voltage needed to run one rechargeable AA-sized battery, said Ann Christy, a study co-author and an associate professor of food, agricultural and biological engineering at Ohio State University.

While rumen fluid itself won't be used as an energy source, some of the microorganisms found in the fluid are also found in cow dung, which may prove to be a good source for generating electricity. In fact, in a related experiment, the researchers used cow manure directly to create energy for a fuel cell.

Using cow dung as an energy source isn't a new idea ? some farmers already use the methane released by livestock waste to power machinery and lights. But converting methane into electricity requires costly equipment ? one California farmer reportedly spent $280,000 to convert his operation to a methane digester system.

"Methane still needs to undergo combustion, which creates issues with energy efficiency," said Hamid Rismani-Yazdi, the study's lead author and a graduate student in food, agricultural and biological engineering at Ohio State.

The research showed how electricity can be created as the microorganisms in rumen fluid break down cellulose ? a complex carbohydrate that is the primary component of the roughage that cows eat. That breakdown releases electrons. "

This gives new dimension to the Eveready menagerie, which will soon be taken over by mad cows.

People who want to knit pick should have the sense to go dig out their own "facts," not insist that the person they're calling wrong go do it. Prove their own goddamned points for themselves. . . .

Time for a glass of wine. And I need to put in another load of laundry, clean the cat box, and go shave my legs. Cool off before I wade back in. Or not.
