That is true, Amos. For instance, I remember a couple of hundred or so posts back you were correct in something you said.   I remember I was so impressed by it at the time I made especial note of it, and I have that note somewhere here on my desk or maybe I used it as a bookmark or something. Anyway, the fact that you were actually correct made a big impression on me.

At least not everyone is completely, unalterably wrong in Rapaire's book. Even if he insists on having seen the Palindrome.

Yes, and it was frightening to see. Diodes all over, transistors gouged out...nasty, nasty stuff.

It probably fought with the fax machine over which was in charge of the phone line, so just as well.

..nor so deaf as one who has never wondered about the sound of scansion flushing...

I've wandered about a bit in my time
Of palindromes I've seen a few
But I found it was better in every clime
To my food to thoroughly chew.

CH: Oh, I have no life to bother my wife
No liver to prove untrue,
Just take my advice
And never think twice
But thoroughly your food you chew.

So oft in theologic wars, the disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance of what each other mean,
And prate about a palindrome not one of them has seen!

It saddens me to see my MOABite sibs descend to such railing; and I am soberly reminded of the wisdom of one of the Good Books: none is so blind as he who has never wondered whether or not he can see.

Well, whatever, I agree with you to not ride on it. And be sure not to step behind it.

You should see the poop that comes out of those hornworms (if you're a gardener, you may have already). Put it on the scale of the aerodrome/palindrome and you have a huge mess. So far they've been able to blame it on adjacent feed lots and chicken processors, but one of these days the EPA is going to get wise (after Jan. 20, one suspects).

Unh huh. Jabberwocky. It has an element of the scorpion DNA in it.

Palindrome is related entomologically to the Tobacco Hornworm.

WRONG!!

There was a trained palindrome at the County Fair just last Fall and I saw it. I saw its mighty wings, its flashing tusks, the shredding claws of its feet, the venom dripping from the sting in its prehensile tail. I smelled the sour-sweet stink of death that befouls its wretched breath. No, I did not pay to take a ride on it like all the other kids were doing.

It was six men of Indostan to learning much inclined,
Who went to see the palindrome though all of them were blind,
That each by observation might satisfy his mind.

The First approached the palindrome, and happening to fall
Against his last three characters, at once began to bawl:
'God bless me! But the palindrome has no symmetry at all!'

The Second, feeling of the front, cried, 'Ho! What have we here?
The thing begins with 256? To me 'tis mighty clear
This wonder of a palindrome is binary, my dear!'

The Third approached the plaindrome, and happening to take
The middle digits in his grasp, thus boldly up and spake:
'I see,' quoth he, 'the palindrome is surely on the take!'

The Fourth reached out an eager hand, and felt about the whole,
Quoth he, "This mighty palindrome is vexed, upon my soul!
It goeth there and cometh here, a rock that is a roll!"

The Fifth, who chanced to touch the end, began to swear and glower
He cried, "I see it plainly, having felt it for an hour;
This marvel of an palindrome is pi to some odd power!'

The Sixth no sooner had begun about the thing to try,
than, seizing on the second pair of digits, gave a cry:
'I see,' quoth he, 'the plaindrome's the inverse squate of i!'

And so these men of Indostan disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right, and all were in the wrong!

Moral:

So oft in theologic wars, the disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance of what each other mean,
And prate about a palindrome not one of them has seen!

So do we. We incorporated the DNA of one of your University teachers into us earlier today and it was, we are sorry to say, somewhat unpalatable. On the other hand, we incorporated a "politician" several of your weeks ago and only now are recovering from the digestive upset. How in the name of the Universe do you keep those from reversing your peristalsis?

The pupal stage (between the hibernation and the aerodrome stage) is the well known hippodrome.

Some natural scientists refer to the aqautic version of the palindrome as a hippodrome, which can grow confusing, but the aquatic form is more properly known as a hyrdrodrome.

I have been researching this subject very thoroughly the last couple of hours and I have found that a palindrome is the non-flying stage of the aerodrome. Apparently, a palindrome is the the larval stage of the velodrome, a rather nasty and stupid creature which is always running around in circles. After mating, the velodrome lays its eggs in the nearest briar patch (even traveling thousands of kilometers to find one). The eggs hatch and after eating all of the vegetation for several hectares around (including wooden houses and any other formerly living vegetation) spin a cocoon and, from nine to sixteen months later, emerge as a palindrome. After spending several years chasing its own tail, the palindrome digs a hole and hibernates. During this time it gradually metamorphs into the beautiful aerodrome, whose sole purpose is to suck fermented nectar from flowers and mate indiscriminately with anything with wings. When fertilized, the aerodrome lays its eggs in violin and guitar cases and these, of course, hatch into velodromes and begin the whole stupid thing over again. After egg-laying, the aerodrome falls to the ground and is run over by passing aeroplanes.

YOu are looking for a valve-less two octave Palindrome, then Rapaire, correct? also known as the "Saharan" palindrome? the single-valve and the "spit-valve" palindromes tend to require much more water.

Barky sends her profound agreement and thanks for your insightful remarks.

Tonight she solos in a concert at Mills College in Vizzuli's "Cascades". Turrin's "Psalm", Hindesmith's Sonata for Trumpet, 3rd Movement, and several other pieces. It will be a treat.

Drop by Lisser Hall!

You can have no higher Paradise than to be with a trumpeter, or even to know one, or to have heard of one, or to share the same planet as one. You are fortunate indeed, and thrice-blessed, Amos, that you know more than one trumpeter. No other instrument is so God-like, so heavenly, so close to the Music of the Spheres and no other musician is so godlike.

And you can quote me on this to Barky.

Mom has always been partial to High Tea, which is why she loves it when Bobert comes to call.

It is a cold morning in Oakland, Mom, far too chilly to dance naked with Presidents. Under other circumstances, though, it would be an interesting opportunity.

Dark African coffee hand pressed by the best barista in town; the silver notes of Barky practicing her cascades in the next room; and the morning airs from Lake Merritt wafting over the city's waking streets. Who could ask for more?

Let it stand a bit and toss a handful of sand or salt in to settle the leaves.

Amos is NOT going to a concert "up north." He's a secret member of the Bohemians and he's going to the Bohemian Grove to carouse naked with other (male) pseudo-movers-'n'-shakers. Come to think of it, they will be ACTUAL "movers and shakers" as the prance around nekkid in the Grove. Cheney, W, Amos, Kim Il Sung, Prince Charles -- all prancing around moving and shaking, drinking too much beer....

MOM, I'll be head-first into the eBay stuff today, but I'll try to remember to come check on you. But let's get you started with a simple breakfast. Homemade (of course! No freezer section for us) buttermilk pancakes, a sliced apple (I'm in a hurry) and a cuppa hot tea. Better use the sieve when you pour it into your cup--the tea ball opened up in the pot.

We've been and are back from our concert this evening. A student group as a four-piece jazz band. A few clunkers along the way and a pouting drummer, but overall, not bad.

I think that is a mistranslation. What you took to mean "I'm off to Cannes" is probably ad Canes viamamos, meaning "this place is going to the dogs".

In any case I can't think of a more futile exercise than correcting the grammar or scholarship of a boondoggle. It would be like trying to proofread a dream.

I dunno -- this one has a pedigree (a vellum document with the names of the caretakers) which goes way, way back. In fact, the bottom of the cup is etched with "This Is JC's Grail, MDCXXX Via Cerise, Nazareth. If found return to owner or be smitten with boils and worse." The first name on the vellum is "Mariam of Magdela, Easter, AD 29. Screw this crap, I'm off to Cannes."

You had it--it was never in Idaho, but it wasn't in Minnesota, either. Rapaire was pulling your leg, or if there is an object there, it is bogus. It was in a Dwyer attic in Connecticut for years and years. Then it travelled to Tejas.
