I kept the Mother of All Mother Boards from a 1981 Atari video game that I dismantled last night. The CRT and wiring harness are now in a recycle bin on campus and the cabinet is in the pickup awaiting delivery to my oldest child who wants what is leftover from the game originally owned by my youngest child (given to him by his dentist - long story). While moving it I accidentally dropped it from an upright (on wheels) to prone position, breaking the insides loose in the process. It is now dismantled and out of the house. The board is a souvenir (and it's interesting - there is a puny little heat sink on it, and resistors that look like lentils on wires.)

Okay, that's my report. Now MOM will be back at the top of the page while Rap travels.

Prior to my last I have found Acrobat still does the trick. I have built a clean list of all your posts to the Mudcat and it is compiling a single PDF file of them all. If your email addy is not changed, I will just send it to you when it is done--it will probably be Saturday as I am in LA all day tomorrow,. I think. So that's covered, anyway.

Dearest RR:

I am aghast. Where are you stayiong? Please let us start a thread. Your contributions over the years have lightened hearts and made folks laugh out loud.

There is a mechanism, or iused to be, built into Acrobat Pro which can gather all the pages from a top level file, doen to two or three levels as needed. I can set it running against the full list of your posts and see if it will build a single PDF file out of them. Would that be useful? I haven;t done this in years but I am assuming the feature has not been obsoleted.

Corragio, sweetie!

I;ll send you a replacement CD or two.

Amos

With Mom you always get what you ask for and sometimes a lot more, almost what you deserve. Except for me, 'cause I'm her favorite.

Of course! RR, you'll have to log in and check messages, and I'll PM to get personal contact info. Can we start a regular thread at Mudcat, or do you want to leave it just here in the MOAB? There will be offers of books, CDs, etc that will come from the Mudcat crowd source if it is in its own thread.

Do you want your files digitally or printed? This looks like a job for a quiet day when everyone is out to lunch (and the copier is otherwise un-occupied.)

Here is the search on remarks as a logged on user and you have a few as a named GUEST.

Heavens to Betsey! Where are you staying? That's awful!! There has to be a way to retrieve all of that. You should have said something sooner -- I'm leaving tomorrow for 9 days in NM.

Stilly? Can you help?

'Ode to W'
Well ye old wandering wayfarers, warming, wondering and waiting for willow bark and whiter teeth. Ways of willow munching while chewing and crunching have wafted wildly into wider wiffs winding up in nose hairs, while winged wombats pick up the white pulp and gulp louder than a woman on watermelon.

shout out loud---Hello all!!--

I love you all, miss you all, but confess-I am here for a selfesh reason.
A month ago my house burned down to the ground-ashes-dust-gone-zip shit eh?
I lost all of my writings, books, poems, music, music makers and then a couple of days it occured to me that I have a lot of writings on Mudcat! My deal is that all I have is a borrowed dial up computer and it's so slow. Between me trying to work, get my shit together over this huge change in my life and avoiding some kind of crack in my world I am wondering and or asking if anyone is really bored these days....
I have, counting this one 1613 posts and many are my songs and poems.
Would anyone be into helping me gather some of this stuff into some sort of file that I could copy and paste and when I get a printer print off? See what I mean by selfesh? I haven't posted in eons (but I have lurked!) and here I am asking for the kindness of my friends from days gone by.

If anyone has ideas or will have a think on this I love you in advance.
I'm alive!! (by the way)

I'll be back in a day or two-Amos I also lost all my beautiful CD's including yours and that makes me so sad. I'm not asking you for another though-until I get a CD player!

Love.
Peace.
Rustic

Rapparee is actualy from the Irish ropairí, plural of ropaire, meaning half-pike or pike-wielding person). They were Irish guerrilla fighters who operated on the Jacobite side during the 1690s Williamite war in Ireland. Subsequently the name was also given to bandits and highwaymen in Ireland - many former guerrillas having turned to crime after the war ended. They share similarities with the hajduks of Eastern Europe.

Beyond the Cascade is starting to sell a few copies. An exciting time for a virgin author. So to speak, you understand. Sheesh.

"Chongo," if you knew Irish Gaelic you would know that "Rapaire" is a seldom-used variant on "Rapparee" -- which is a term used for former soldiers and minor nobles who took up employment as highwaymen after the "Flight of Earls" (Imeacht na nIarlaí or Teitheadh na nIarlaí) on January 14, 1607.

But you don't even know Mangani, and your English is lacking (to say the least), much less Irish.

Hi, Mom! I had to disappear for a while--we had to pack up in the middle of the night, throw the dog in the back and hightail it out to Arizona to help Gramma through a health crisis--she picked up something similar to avian flu, but an adult version, and her lungs swole up and her BP went to 180, and ti was touch and go for a while. The hospital pulled her through, it now seems, and she is in gooder spirits and BP down to 160--not optimum but out of crisis range, So we're hopme now.

Yer really determined to push this thing to the limit and risk gettin' me mad, aintcha? I'd tell the public here what "Rapaire" means in Gaelic...and why ya changed the spelling to camouflage the ugly truth...but I don't use that kinda language when ladies might be present. Let's just say it involves someone who performs gross unnatural acts with certain forms of livestock...it's very ****BA-A-A-A-A-A-A-H-H-D!*** behavior.

Neither's "Chongo" which is a Mangani construct from the words "cho" or, in English, "cowardly" and "ngoh" or "ngo" meaning "eunuch."

Any serious student of history oughta know that one of Teddy Roosevelt's sons was named Kermit, ya moron (talkin' to Rap). That was long before Kermit the Frog ever came along. Kermit is a perfectly good name, it just ain't a very common one, that's all.

And, thus, it was so. No shit. I have seen the birth certificate. It says Kermit and Kermit is crossed out and Kenneth is hand written in as if it was a typo.

My family came to the New World in the late 19th Century from Northern Ireland. My great-great grandfather, for whom I am named, was named "Seamus." Our surname was "McChurch." The Immigration Officer was drunk and laughed with his friends (also drunken) over the name and changed it to "Shame McChongo" on his papers. As a matter of family pride and honour we kept it; I am actually Shame McChongo III. My late father did explore changing it back but was told by Ottawa that it wasn't possible as too much time had gone by.

Please stop using my names in such a degrading fashion.

Ya know what, "Chongo"? You gotta be the most stupid chimp on the planet.

Now, I ain't sayin' that animal cruelty hasn't and doesn't exist. It does and I'm agin it. Why, if I saw someone being cruel even to you I'd try to stop it.

But you take your average organ grinder. Generally a man, tryin' to make a livin' because he's dirt poor and tryin' to support himself and probably a wife and kids. So he's got a gaffe -- the organ -- but that don't bring in much. So he betters the gaffe by gettin' a monkey like you, 'cause kids go nuts over monkeys and so do some adults and so more money comes in, see? Do you think that when he goes home he tosses the organ he grinds in the corner and slams the monkey in a cage about 1 cubic foot in size, then slides in some rotten banana peels and squirts some water at the monk? Then makes the monk sleep in some cold, drafty corner?

Hell, no! Not if he's got a lick of sense. That organ and that monkey are the tools, the hooks for his gaffe. He takes good care of both of them because if they don't work he gets no moola, no cabbage, ya know? What's he gonna do, stand outside and hum? You don't pull in any dough-ray-me that way. So he feeds his monk as well as he can -- remember, the man's poor -- and takes care of him and his organ.

You ever see a rancher who didn't care for his cattle? No, and you won't, because those cows are his income. Some thing for the monk. Only a damned fool would screw up his source of what makes the world go 'round.

Like I said, you gotta be the dumbest chimp on the planet.

Studies of the history of specism in the western world and elsewhere show that specism goes a looooong way back! It is likely that the first primitive humanoids, creatures who was looked at askance by normal primates of the time (due to their stupidity, clumsiness, and unpredictable violence) were all specists as a matter of course. But they had not invented musical instruments yet. We primates had musical instruments already in the form of drums of various sorts...a hollow log would do good...but them poor humanoids didn't even have that. Anyways, the humanoids gradually did learn a few skills as the millenia ticked by, and lo and behold, one day they come up with organs! Thus was born the organ-grinder, a low class human of questionable origins who hangs out on street corners and tries to get lunch money by playin' on his instrument.

Let's face it. This was not a pretty sight. How to make it look better? Well, ya gotta add something that looks appealin'...like an ape or a monkey. Organ grinders started enslavin' cute little monkeys and gettin' 'em to solicit spare change by beatin' and starvin' 'em if they didn't do it. Organ grinders seldom use Chimps for this purpose, because yer average Chimp would just rip their arms off and shove their blasted organ down their throat, but sometimes they do use very young Chimps. Usually they use a small monkey.

When I get elected, organ grinders are gonna be made to work for gorillas who play the keyboard. The organ grinder guy will be tethered by a chain to a nearby lamp post, the gorilla will play popular tunes or classical stuff, and the organ grinder guy will solicit spare change. If he brings in enough money in a day, he'll get a bowl of thin soup and a crust of bread before bedtime. "Bed" will be a thin blanket on a hard, cold floor.

I don't believe in coddlin' specists. No sir!

Former Massachusetts governor and member of the House of Representatives William Claflin invited people to a garden party at his home in Newtonville, Massachusetts to celebrate the 70th birthday of Harriet Beecher Stowe. For that special occasion, held June 14, 1882, fellow anti-slavery writer John Greenleaf Whittier wrote a poem, "A Greeting":

Thrice welcome from the Land of Flowers
And golden-fruited orange bowers
To this sweet, green-turfed June of ours!
To her who, in our evil time,
Dragged into light the nation's crime
With strength beyond the strength of men,
And, mightier than their swords, her pen!
To her who world-wide entrance gave
To the log-cabin of the slave;
Made all his wrongs and sorrows known,
And all earth's languages his own, ?
North, South, and East and West, made all
The common air electrical,
Until the o'ercharged bolts of heaven
Blazed down, and every chain was riven!
