I have often thought that Penelope Rutledge, given a different family background, might have made a fine nun.

ALthough none of my friends are Sumerian, some of my friends are Nuns. Some are loony, many are nutty and belong in a nuttery, but none live in nunneries. Nunneries are all for nuns, but not all nuns are in nunneries. New nuns often shun nunneries, but new nuns know so little and none are inundated with knowing.

Nuns are cool. Regular people. Some are nice as can be. Some are as crazy as a bag a hammers. Sister Mary ********* cracked my knuckles with a wooden pointer and I disagreed with her judgement and decision so I grabbed it and broke it in two. She reached out to grab me but I was 9 years old. She chased me but I was 9 years old. I got home and told Me Mère. Sister Mary had some explaining ta do when Me Mère arrived at the school. Me Mère was about 5 tall but she would give you the shirt off her back or take yours if you fucked with her. Sister had NO chance in... you know.

I've never actually known any nuns, loose or otherwise, not having been around the Catholic Church much during this life.

The very best nuns are "loose". It adds to their air of mystery. I am back from a delightful expedition and dinner with fine friends of north of LA. And I have returned, which is how I got back. In case anyone wondered.

MOM - let's get you dusted off and fed. Here's a cuppa tea and some bacon and a bagel.

Is this new snow or part of a steady supply of snow that you're shoveling, Eiseley? Did this big winter storm take a swipe at your house on its way east?

She's putting on the Polish polish.

You needn't worry about my walking stick. Here in Merryland-On-The-DC Border -- at least where I am -- there's no snow and it's supposed to be 45 tomorrow. Besides, my walking stick has a tungsten carbide "ice point" under the rubber tip. It's useful for walking on icy surfaces, wading mountain streams, poking holes in the floors of airplanes, and threatening people who are mean to me.

Well, you guys missed out on my turquoise toilet and now you've missed out on a collection of a couple hundred holy/prayer cards. They went to a friend who's a loose nun. That is, she doesn't live "in community" but has her own place and works with a hospice. She's also a MS in Nursing and more-or-less nuts. Eiseley, she says she's going to come visiting this year so be warned.

Soon you'll have mastered the pronunciation of words like "zbynkqr" and "kznvczvch".

Good morning, Mom!
(No, I'm not referring to the one who lives south of here, but the ubiquitous web-based maternal thread.) I just finished shoveling the walks, and will spend an hour or so learning Polish before prodding the boys to finish their weekend homework. Please don't slip on the icy patch by the bridal veil bush. Rapparee might be persuaded to put the 4-pronged spikes on your cane so you can get around better.

Eiseley

Yes, I see. It is the Mother of all the other BS threads. I get that. So when you refer to it as "Mom", you mean Mom only in that relative sense, not in the sense of your own family.

Okay. That's a good point, Amos, and it has done much to alleviate my concerns that you might all have been sliding into dementia.

Have a nice time in Gomorrah.

...as each other? As Blind Riverians? As Freud?

I am off to Gomorrah.

Oh, and LH, don't be silly--no-one here thinks of a thread in cyberspace as their own mother. That would be absurd. Even Mom says so. Have you observed, yet, what the title of this particular thread is? Just wondering, after all this time...

I don't think Dale's use of the word "fuck" in that context has much to do with sex, gnu....but I might be wrong. Perhaps he was sexually abused in childhood, thus he suffers a negative complex in regards to the sexual act. Whaddya think? Or is he just aping the behaviour of his general peer group when he says "fuck you"? Or could they ALL have been sexually abused in childhood? Truly, Freud would have a field day here. I think that if Freud had spent some time in Blind River, he'd have found enough source material to fill at least 10 volumes.

Dale has a "sexual explanation" to respond to such... "fuck you". Appropriate in some circumstances.

Freud first theorized (based upon considerable evidence) that many, if not most, psychoses originated from childhood sexual abuse and trauma. When he proposed this to his colleagues they were appalled, for even in fin de siecle Vienna such accusations were not comme il faut, shall we say. So he changed his original theory, which had much more basis in fact, to what we now recognize as "Freudian psychology."

This is true, by the way.

You're mostly a bit too frisky for your own good, as far as I can see. It makes you mentally hyperactive, encourages ADD, and you start imagining that a sesquipedalian conversation in cyberspace is your own mother. That's scary. I'm sure Freud would find it fascinating, though, and he'd probably have a sexual explanation. ;-)

You lose your bet, monsieur. But you win for etre bete. You have been hoist by your own petard, also a type of cannon, whose name derives from the French word for farting. Seems somehow poetically juste le mot, non?

Amos, I'll bet you didn't know that a batarde is a type of cannon. So is a carronade, and all this time you probably thought it was some sort of cooling drink made from carrots.

You need a circumflex over the first "a" in "batardes", Amos. One of these: ^. It indicates where an "s" was left out of a word in French, although the "s" appears in the English word.

Yours for bettering your French, because I don't care about mine,

In the beginning there was The Song, and The Song looked upon The Music and saw it was good, and The Music and The Song created The Getaway. And They looked upon The Getaway and saw copious amounts of wine and distilled water of life and fermented grains being consumed and They were appalled, and heard singing and music being sung and played off-key and were appallered, and They said to each other, "Let Us smite these Getawayers for their sins, but if there is but one among them who is Pure and Honest and Beyond Reproach We will not smite them" and They searched and found one who was all that and more and They said, "We will not smite the Getawayers because of this one called Rapparee, for he is the one is whom these qualities bloom, and he's never strayed all he believes and he's blessed with an iron will, and if he had been made the partner of Eve, they'd be in Eden still, for there he stands, as pure as a pray'r, incredibly clean, with virtue to spare, the godliest man We know!" And so the Getaway was blessed from Above even though there was all sorts of carousing and carryings-on.

Smelts are good eating when, like anything, they're cooked right. If they're not cooked right you can use them as fertilizer.

Well, Mom, I'm off to Merryland again tomorrow morn. Well, really just after noon, local time, but I get on the shuttle tomorrow morn. Hope this trip will finish things up out there. Then we can go back for things like graduations and we can even spend Christmas in our own home without having to have surgery as an excuse.

Yes, Ballsworthy is continually stalking and pestering the Rutledge clan, seeking to prise information out of their domestic staff, spreading dreadful rumours about supposed human sacrifices, and generally making an utter pest of himself. Something really should be done about it. Can't Winston talk to some of his old friends in the SAS?

I saw snippets of it. I must say that those "tight ends" are attractive, in a visceral sort of way! Leave it to the Americans to be so forthright in naming playing positions. My niece Veronica also seemed to enjoy the show, as she went down to the pub to view it on the telly there. She must have stayed over with friends, as she hasn't come home yet. I do so hope that she didn't run into that awful Hector Ballsworthy chap, a cad of the first water.

I am, however, watching print on paper and the mountains off in the distance and the snow melting and lots of other stuff.
