Here, Ed, is the ultimate source on tin foil hats, from MIT.

Amos, I wish my kids could levitate. Could you come teach them how?

Best forego the foil come Thursday, Ed. Some one might lift it off your head and try to brush a baste on to keep you from drying out;>)

I sure would like to be there to see that. I can see him now, face all screwed up in concentration, floating gently up toward the roof and muttering "So far, so good...".

Actually, it took me that long to get the return filed.    For me, April 15 is usually the deadline to get the request for extension filed:>)

My house and windows and floors and oven and refrigerator and tops of picture frames and ceiling corners where cobwebs are prone to lurk are soooo clean!

Lucky it isn't too chilly outside, since Sum Yung Sun is banned from the house until his grandparents arrive on Thursday, unless he can figure out how to levitate.

It was too big for them to count in the usual way. Right? Right??

It took this long for them to send you your refund? I guess they must have hand-carried it from the Department of the Treasury in Washington, D.C., but I think even then you'd get it a little earlier.

I believe I just averted being hit by a high-speed "killer"singing electron...the aluminum foil seems to have worked...

We're near 2012
Armageddon is due
So, I'm flustered

The climate's askew
Everyone's got swine flu
So, I'm flustered

Magnetic poles exchange
Turning guys into dames
So, I'm flustered

The dollar is down
No jobs to be found,
So, I'm flustered

Health care, it's gone dry
Money's all in Dubai
So, I'm flustered

The government says
Taxes it will raise
So, I'm flustered

Santa's giving soft porn
The keyboard is worn
So, I'm flustered

Our troops over there
Fight straw wars everywhere
So, I'm flustered

There's no refuge in song
'Cause the music's all gone
So, I'm flustered

Not a thing I can do,
So, I'm calling on you '
So we can reminisce
With a toke and a kiss
And, be flustered

I got my federal income tax refund. Yea! Now I can pay my County property taxes! Well, I suppose I could contribute to the good causes Rapaire noted a day or two ago. I did think about it, albeit briefly.

Remember, it's the thought that counts.

Is this picture an early sign that the poles are beginning to shift for 2012?

I'm trying to imagine life as a otter.

Ed, if you shine up the phone good and proper, the electrons will slide through the wires faster and you'll telephone bill will be lower because you pay for the number of electrons that go through the wire -- it's sorta like a toll road, but not exactly.

Another thing you can do is unplug everything attached to you computer, and especially anything connected to a network, get a can of compressed air or an air compressor, and blow all the byte dust out of the lines. See, bits of data are always rubbing together in there, and the bitsanding (as it's called) causes byte dust to accumulate and slow down your computer. But be warned -- always put a baggie over one end of the cords and stuff or you'll have byte dust all over the house or whatever.

And wireless is even worse. You should keep a baggie over your wireless router because it's broadcasting byte dust into the are 24/7/365(366).

A new report is in on 2012 Earth changes:

The Earth's magnetic field will reverse polarity in 2012. What will happen when the Earth reverses polarity is that everybody's gender will flip too. All the men will become women, all the women will become men. (Though Elton John and a few other individuals will remain...ummm...well, a bit ambiguous.)

Should be interesting. But we'll all have to go out and buy a new wardrobe. Hmmm. Well, it should benefit the economy, I suppose.

Now I'm trying to imagine Bobert as a "womanz". Sheesh. This is a really tough one to contemplate.

A slippery path to spiritual oblivion could indeed result in a runaway horse condition, maybe a slippery banana-skin situation , or perhaps poorly cooked perogies....

Devations in electromagnetic transmissions care known to result in "limitless knowledge" or "limitless MAOB posting", but, rarely both...at least rarely in the same space and time zone.

So true, Amos! I can still recall episodes in "Bloom County" with Opus the Penguin running desperately around the house pursued by a babbling television that is screaming at him about the "Ronco Turnip Twaddler" at a special reduced price..."IT SLICES! IT SPLICES! IT SQUOOSHES!"

In the final scene we see an exhausted and defeated Opus a few days later signing a receipt for a trucker's delivery of about 5,000 Ronco Turnip Twaddlers direct to his door. His whole front entrance is full of packages of turnip twaddlers, stacked to the ceiling. He will no doubt be paying for them for many years to come...at a high rate of interest.

Ed:

Electromagnetic transmissions can be very treacherous. Do not allow them to suborn your native sovereignty or your spiritual self-determination. You will end up buying things you do not want which you will then be forced to want because you have them.

This is a slippery path to spiritual oblivion, encased by the faint shimmering walls of fraudulent desire to the end of your days, never able to see freely or clearly, doomed to a deathlike spin of false wanting and bad having feeding on each other like voracious flying demons.

We had an admissions dude in college named Quinn. He was a pretentious Korean War wannabee and everyone knew it. His office was DIRECTLY over the Student Union...I think "Mighty Quinn" was played was played day and night for a week or more before the Powers That Be had it removed from the jukebox. Seems like the students had learned how to turn the volume on the 'box up. WAY up for that song.

Interesting how an artist singing someone elses song can often make their version seem so unique.

A good example is Dylan's version of Johnny Cash's "Train of Love", played at the JC Tribute session.

That's true, Ed. During his career Dylan has written some songs that he more or less "donated" to various musical friends to do as cover tunes and seldom performed himself. Or else it just happened that way in a passive sense. Some examples:

Farewell Angelina - a Joan Baez standard
Love Is Just a Four Letter Word - another Joan Baez standard
Seven Days - Ron Wood cover
This Wheel's On Fire - The Band
I Shall Be Released - first covered by The Band, I think, but Dylan has also played it a fair bit in concerts
The Mighty Quinn - barely ever performed by Dylan, but Manfred Mann had a hit with it

LH, as to your Dylan comment "gives "Seven Days" to Ron Wood".
It's odd, but the first person one hears sing'in a song seems to influence yo in the future. I heard it first from Ronnie Woods, not from Dylan.

Science says ancient pathways our brains gives us direct access...from what you smell....to memories from the past. I feel it's also true for music. Hearing a song you heard as a young'un brings you directly back to a youthful experience.

So doth Mrs. Baxter's. And those of the "girls" who work for her. If you were ever to come to Pocatello Mrs. B would show you a good time. She's a Friend of the Library, too, so if you mention my name she'll give you a discount on whatever you buy. Just the first time, though. Poor woman's got to make a livin' while carin' fer them poor orfant girls. But from what I understand 'bout you and Sarah and Hillary and Winona, you might be better off at Charley's. Crowd might be more to your taste, but that's just guessin' on my part. Ol' Blood Chewer goes there "jist ta warm up" he says. He's called that because he only eats blutwurst and black puddings. Lotsa people are afraid of him, but he's fine in the library and in general is a peaceable sort who wouldn't hurt neither lamb nor grizzly much unless he was provoked somehow. Like with Bob Dylan music. THAT sets him right off. You sing "Blowin' in the Wind" and first he gets all weepy and then starts smashin' things, like cars, trucks, brick walls, and the Lewis Street bridge (the city made him pay for the repairs, even though he said he was sorry).

All these birds are considered quite rare in southern Ontario, so it has been a red letter day which I shall not soon forget. My cup runneth over, as it were.

Two things: first, this video of Little Hawk and his one of his weener whineys in a competition (LH entered under an assumed name, because otherwise he wouldn't be allowed into the US due to that little mixup about that girl's age).

Secondly, the boatswain for HMS Higgs skipped off in Port Moresby in 1894 after they found him with the cabin boy instead of the Captain. Since he was last seen heading for the interior, it's likely he ended up in someone's interior (given the folks living around Port Moresby at the time). In any case, it's certain sure that HMS Higgs never touched at a Swiss port.

Ambiguity is relative to breadth of view. To the enlightened, there are no accidents, nor confusions. To the confused, all is ambiguous.

As for a chimera, I have always held that chimera is where you find it. The daughters of Typhon go where they will, whether the mind of man says yea, or nay.

Yeah, I saw that but was still keeping my fingers crossed.

I think there is an interesting parallel between the Higgs boson and the stupidon. One imparts mass to other particles, the other imparts density to minds and viewpoints.

Both are thought to exist on the basis of much evidence, but neither has been found. If we could learn to manage one of them we would achieve amazing improvements in society.

Many years ago I declared there must exist a spation and founded the subject of spatonics, the study of how space comes to exist and operates. No-one took me up on it, but if the LHC is successful it may become obvious.

Congratulations on being related to someone named Higgs, Stilly!

Hey, Amos! They're looking for one of Gluon's siblings!

Finally!

The Large Hadron Collider experiment has re-started after a 14-month hiatus while the machine was being repaired.

Engineers have made two stable proton beams circulate in opposite directions around the machine, which is in a tunnel beneath the French-Swiss border.

The team may try to increase the £6bn ($10bn) collider's energy to record-breaking levels this weekend.

The LHC is being used to smash together beams of protons in a bid to shed light on the nature of the Universe.

It is the world's largest machine and is housed in a 27km-long circular tunnel.

During the experiment, scientists will search for signs of the Higgs boson, a sub-atomic particle that is crucial to our current understanding of physics. Although it is predicted to exist, scientists have never found it.

etc

As it happens, Higgs (a Higgs, anyway, from Staunton, VA) is a cousin of mine. Small world (literally!)

That's a good selection of Dylan favorites, Ed. "Where Are You Tonight" is a really intense song with some terrific lyrics in it and great music too.

He seems to have given "Seven Days" to Ron Wood, but there is a pretty good version of Bob doing it on one of the Bootleg Series.

I am a fan of Dylan, like or most all of his stuff. Have my favourites, like
When I paint my Masterpiece, Absolutely Sweet Marie, trust yourself, If you see her, say hello, and Where are you tonight (especially this version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QorhSo2UCik&feature=fvw

However, some of his songs sound better sung by others, like Seven Days.

Part of the existential approach to the puzzle of human meaning was to reduce all assertions to the absurd. In your last post, Ed, the one about shitting from the rooftops, you have carried this dubious art to new heights. Well, new extremes, anyway.

Of course, as I am sure you know, the fact that you can reduce something to the absurd does not make it absurd in its natural state.

You can search high and low but you will never find a better warm fuzzy anywhere, nor beat the price of Mom's.
