hmmmmm - I think that insects may eat and victimize their mates - but freds mate and eat their victims. There does seem to be an essential difference.

I heard from Bee-Dubya-Ell--as it happens, the freds tried his place, but all they managed to do was down his phone line.

Freds seem unable to distinguish between live and transmitted voice. When viewing the "is it live, or is it Memorex?" advertisement from broadcast signals captured in deep space they were clueless to figure out the difference. That's why they zapped his phone line after somehow picking up a call to the local Chinese take-out joint. It may have been too close for comfort.

Stay safe, BWL, until they get outta your woods.

When we last heard from a freds itheshe was after Bee-Dubya. Bee-Dubya hasn't posted of late. Are these two facts somehow connected? Could Bee-Dubya-Ell have been enticed and is now...no, it's too horrible to contemplate...he's now part of some sort of intergalactic orgy!

Bee-Dubya-Ell, we hardly knew ye!

See, I told you the freds would start telling us things about their life cycle. Now we know they, in common with insects, both mate with and eat their victims. How this is useful I don't know yet, but it will be...

There are a few squids* spare over in the tavern. I'm sure we can spare one to feed the freds the best worst that can happen is they kill each other off.

Being-called-Amos,

Dear G===

Now now...you were churlish first, which is not appropriate for a newbie. Can't have it both ways, duckie. If this thread is as dull and tedious as you say, by all means leave it well enough alone.

I feel compelled to say I do not believe the King would allow such trickery and deceit in the land of :::MOAB:::

:::freds in need of TAG-sentient helical DNA indeed!! Tricks I tell ya!! And they are horny?? And they still have the Labrador Retriever, too?? Deceit and trickery.
I think they are really trying to steal the duck-dog and and perform secret experiments on the gravitational pull of the inner molecular structure of the right paw/web that's connected to the hip/thigh, the hip/thigh's connected to the leg/wing, the leg/wing's connected to the neck/(well...)neck and la la la la la.....

"churlish"...very good word, Silly River. Not often used, but, I have noticed that there are many words sprinkled around MOAB that are rarely used.

No, I have not yet learned the Games Mudcatters (or MOABites) Play. First, I will thank you for the helpful link. I'll will admit that your trick was quite amusing, and, Oooh, I see, you do scrolling text also! Can you pull a rabbit out of your pants? Make a turtle disappear? Or, perhaps, better yet, insult and talk down to a "newbie"? That is always good for a laugh among the guys!

And let's not forget to imply that the same newbie is really someone else, but that's old hat, someone else beat you to that one on another thread!

Yes, MOAB is full of tricky witty tricksters, Silly River Stage, but, I know some tricks myself.

Please...can't someone help? We are becoming what in your culture is called "horny" and we very, very much need TAG-sentient helical DNA. We have the Labrador Retriever, too, but please, we are becoming very, very, very desirous of genetic replication. The consequences of failure in this could be quite dire indeed.

Thank you.

Guests who bother to stick around this long and actually read extensive amounts of our commentary don't usually maintain such a churlish tone. Makes me wonder if the "G" in the Guest-moniker once had a guitar name attached to it. Hmmmm. . . .

You received several "serious" answers, oh-impatient-and-petulant-one. You just haven't figured out some of our techniques. So before you come back and try to insult anyone else into what? some sort of agreement with you (not likely--don't hold your breath on that one!) go back and take a look again.

Like highlight the blank spot on

I was attacked by a wild haggis over the weekend. I barely escaped with my life! Fortunately, I was hiking along with Alex MacCushla (THE MacCushla, hereditary and titular head of the Idaho Sept) and he whipped out a set of pipes and a bottle of Drambuie faster'n you can say "Cha d'fhag claidheamh Fhinn riamh fuigheall beuma." He threw the Drambuie at the haggis, which snagged it with a pseudopod and emptied into its mouth full of jagged, yellow teeth (haggis have yellow teeth from chewing tobacco). As the haggis was downing the drink, Alex began piping "Johnny Cope." The haggis dropped me at the third note and came to a rigid attention, just as if it were in some Highland Regiment. I, of course, ran like hell; Alex segued into a lullabye and after the haggis was snoring beat feet outa there.

well, y'know - there is a grain off truth in even the silliest of stories - even ones told to tourists.

truth is , it's the sage growing along the Stilly River that gives the haggi that graze there their superior flavour.

I always though that when that bunch of independance minded Freds, after outwitting Gluon the guard dog, who got distracted whilst trying to decide if his tail existed, so he could chase it, stole the stone from under the throne of MOAB, and hid it behind that waterfall on the Stilly River, Rapiere recoved a fake and the real one was being held in waiting to crown Bonnie Prince Kandhu when he returns.

Or is that just what we tell the tourists, along with the superior flavour of the anticlockwise haggis and such like?

Fundamentals of Fish Spoilage??? Betcha that one took lots of Oscars.

My father served in the Pacific Theater.

All this time I've assumed that that name refered to the area of the Pacific where WW2 was fought. I have now seen the light and realize that what is being communicated was that my very own father was not in the Army in WW2, but was actually an usher in a movie house for fish which was located in the Pacific Ocean! And all the other "Theaters" are likewise places where fish watch flicks!

Why, you may ask, has this coverup been going on? Why for the last 60 or more years has the US Government hidden The Truth from the American people (and everyone else, for that matter)?

Simple: tippy top secret US Navy research back in the late 1920s and early 1930s proved conclusively that fish were smarter than people, and the US Government "created" WW2 as a gigantic coverup. The Government, in its wisdom, knew that people around the world would panic if The Truth was told. Instead, in cooperation with the Bavarian Illuminati and the Group of Seven and the Freemasons and the Bohemian Club and the IOOF and the Knights of Columbus (which organizations basically run the world today and always have), people worldwide were subjected to subtle sublimial programming during the movies "Going My Way," "The Song of Bernadette," "Gentle Comrade," "Gone With the Wind, "The Wizard of Oz," and "Steamboat Willie." This programming made everyone think that a war had been fought, when actually fish had quietly taken over the reins of power! Today, fish are in charge in every nation on the globe and are pushing their Agenda. PETA wants a ban on fishing; "Save The Whales" is triumphing; dolphins and porpoises are actually thought to be at least a little bit intelligent, "catch and release" is chanted like some sort of religious prayer -- and if this isn't proof enough, Fish and Game Departments across the globe have set up "limits" to the number of fish which can be caught!!!

Well, now that's all cleared up.

Mayflies! -- and them's good bait! Trout'll just gobble 'em up like popcorn at the movies, if trout ever went to movies, which they don't, at least as far as I know. But if fish have schools, why shouldn't they go to movies? They must need something to do when school's out -- what's a fish gonna do, go swimming? Cut the grass? Go fishing? Take up banjo? Play basketball in the 'hood? Movies have to be the answer.

The question then is: what films would fish watch? That stupid thing with Don Knotts? Moby-Dick? 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea? Going After Nemo (or whatever that was called)? The Little Mermaid -- and could this be some sort of fishy skin flick? The Sea Wolf?

I think it would be Moby-Dick, for the same reason that Navajos watch Cheyenne Autumn and, of course, Moby gets to wipe out almost everyone on Peapod or whatever that whaling ship was called.

OK, a serious answer.

Lots of threads have lost some posts in the recent database corruption, most commonly from one end or the other. Much of the time, for various reasons, this does not matter. The answers were elsewhere, or can be recreated, or the discussion has moved on. Many, many threads come up with intersting things that are, at most, tangentally related to the subject.

MOAB is a law unto itself. We merry few here use it as a world unto itself, an escape from the seriousness of the many issues floating in the BS section, and all those above the line. Here nothing is fixed, except the lack of a fixed theme. If you have scanned this thread, then you will have seen the stars of Shatner, Spatulas and Swedes wax and wane. We are loyal to MOAB, for we have seen mayflies of threads reach a few hundred posts and peter out, and we know that MOAB will be here, and we will take it to glory, and to stop that flaming ted getting post 10K....

Hope that helps.

So you are telling me that the order of the posts here have been jumbled? Does that apply throughout the entirety of "MOAB" or is it restricted to this page?

Will it remain jumbled? If so, why keep it? Why not scrap very jumbled thread & begin anew?

Otherwise, those who venture in here as a newbie, as I am, shall never make sense of any of this or any other jumbled thread!

Would any of you, in this thread of BS Mom, step outside your BS persona for a moment and answer these serious questions?

G-Spot--you are at an extreme disadvantage by entering the thread at this point. Reading the whole thing is the recommended approach, not skipping through at the high points (we don't have MOAB Cliff Notes) or stopping only at the decorative html. The database was scrambled last week, so what was an orderly progression of BS has been rototilled by Gluon's digging in the sub-atomic garden on Max's dining room table. The posts are out of order (literally as well as figuratively). I won't accuse you of having an orderly mind--were that the case, you'd have been charmed and completely swept away at the whimsical side of this group of professional and pseudo-intellectuals who amuse one another with this ongoing banter.

(Even the walking-talking-turd Martin Gibson tried breeching the BS walls and gave up.)

In MOAB poetical terms, please keep the following in mind:

A Parting Guest
--James Whitcomb Riley

What delightful hosts are they --
   Life and Love!
Lingeringly I turn away,
   This late hour, yet glad enough
They have not withheld from me
   Their high hospitality.
So, with face lit with delight
   And all gratitude, I stay
   Yet to press their hands and say,
"Thanks. -- So fine a time! Good night."

and if we happen to learn that you died, we'll be sure to run "A Parting Glass" here.

an unwarranted and unnecessary intrusion

Maybe one of these?

Igneous Intrusion
An igneous intrusion (also called a laccolith or a plutonic formation) is a formation in which magma (molten rock) is trapped beneath the surface of the Earth and pushes the rock located above it into a dome shape. It has a flat base and a convex upper surface. The magma cools and solidifies, and eventually, it is exposed (as the fractured sedimentary rock above it erodes away).

Disclaimer: Nothing in my last post should be construed that guests are unwelcome visitors to MOAB or that MOABites consider guests to be an unwarranted and unnecessary intrusion by those whose mind cannot comprehend the total magificence of what has and is being built. Such construction may only be put upon my last post by those who cannot comprehend what they read, are terminally ignorant of the nuances of language, or both. Or neither, for matter. And nothing therein should be taken in any manner than confuses, in Pope's words, "The puppet with the puppeteer" (or something to that effect). Remember, objects in the mirror are much, much closer than they appear, to always wear clean underwear so that you won't be embarassed when it is cut off of you in the Emergency Room after the accident, that a penny saved is a penny earned, to floss regularily, and to never mix alcohol and gunpowder even if it seems like it would make a drink with one hellacious kick, because it doesn't. Take it from me, it doesn't, but it CAN ruin good whisky.

A brave sort, that GUEST G-spot. But by skipping around no one can understand MOAB. It must be read from the beginning, savored like fine wine and food, and digested and made part of the person reading it. No where else is Francis Bacon's statement that "some books are made to be digested" more true than in the MOAB.

And to truly understand the MOAB, the reader should completely understand each reference, each link. But above all, indeed far outreaching any thing else about the MOAB, the reader should realize from the outset that MOABites care deeply about Mother and don't really give a rat's ass what the casual reader thinks. And therein, dear reader, lies what is arguably the greatest strength of not only MOAB, but of all great literature.

I started reading from the front and after several pages I began to skip a few, read, skip, read, skip until I finally got to this page. It looks like the last few thousand post have been made by a select few who are merely trying to impress one another with their wit, their wisdom and their smarts. So what have you accomplished if you are all so impressed with one another? This thread is like a club of teenagers that exists for no other purpose than to attempt to outdo each other. Hey, fellows, which of you can fart the loudest? Who has the biggest whangie? I know...let's all play "Can You Top This?"

I prefer a different mathematician's approach to gravity this evening:

You Are Old, Father William
(a parody, by Lewis Carroll, of course!)

"You are old, father William," the young man said,
   "And your hair has become very white;
And yet you incessantly stand on your head--
   Do you think, at your age, it is right?"

"In my youth," father William replied to his son,
   "I feared it might injure the brain;
But, now that I'm perfectly sure I have none,
   Why, I do it again and again."

"You are old," said the youth, "as I mentioned before,
   And you have grown most uncommonly fat;
Yet you turned a back-somersault in at the door--
   Pray what is the reason for that?"

"In my youth," said the sage, as he shook his grey locks,
   "I kept all my limbs very supple
By the use of this ointment - one shilling a box--
   Allow me to sell you a couple?"

"You are old," said the youth, "and your jaws are too weak
   For anything tougher than suet;
Yet you finished the goose, with the bones and the beak--
   Pray, how did you manage to do it?"

"In my youth," said his father, "I took to the law,
   And argued each case with my wife;
And the muscular strength, which it gave to my jaw,
   Has lasted the rest of my life."

"You are old," said the youth, "one would hardly suppose
   That your eye was as steady as ever;
Yet you balanced an eel on the end of your nose--
   What made you so awfully clever?"

"I have answered three questions, and that is enough,"
   Said his father. "Don't give yourself airs!
Do you think I can listen all day to such stuff?
   Be off, or I'll kick you down stairs.
