I got my hearing aids from the Veterans Administration.

I like this one.

Start with a cheaper version or FDA approved on Amazon.
I like mine which was originally designed for hunters but you can easily spend more than you might need. 4 EQ choices is enough for me.

The hearing aid business receptionist pissed me off. Mum explained she was very 'hard of hearing' and wanted to know what the procedure was for getting tested and getting hearing aids. She had to ask the receptionist to speak up twice because she could not hear her. Even I had a bit of a hard time to hear her the first time as she was talking in a low voice. WTF is that about? It's a GD hearing aid store!

Thankfully, an audiologist-in-training happened to be there and she took Mum by the hand and waltzed her through the works.

Seriously stunnedasmearse... or... I won't go there.

I supposed I could go to Bass Pro. I am serious. Just found out about it on Facebook. A 2nd amendment group is on Senator Warren's ass about over-the-counter hearing aids. http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/5/30/1667385/-Gun-Owners-of-America-using-bipartisan-bill-reducing-cost-of-hearing-aids-to-

Cheese is verboten on flights. Its either because C-4 can be disguised as cheese or vice versa.

Heavens! I started looking up information on kirpans and ended up at the TSA website, where I discovered that I cannot bring dynamite or hand grenades on an airplane, either in my carry-on or checked bags! Whatever am I to do if I cannot fly with a hand grenade? Perhaps I can call it a religious item, like the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.

They are good. Sesame flavored and shaped like a bent men's tie Norbertines are low in salt and high in Corporate ineptitude

I thought Norbertines were crackers served with soup.

And we're back.
I note, re Rapparee's engraving of religious habits,

the mention of Praemonstratensians.
They call themselves Norbertines now.
And they are still around.

Pop Up books are even better. I wonder if there are pop up Shakespeare books? 2 B or not 2b, which is my apartment?

"A nicer vice or habit?"

'Reading'

Dyslexics of America (DOA) are laughing out loud

its a compliment if you forgot.
I do like an ancient oversize Paradise Lost with Dore' plates.
MOM says I can have one when I learn to read.

Yes, she was playing with the dogs. The dogcatcher came, tried to take Mom away, but the dogs saved her. Turns out some neighbor thought the dogs were being dognapped, but of course they were just trying to get Mom in her car so she could take them for a ride.

Fortunate for my job today, the person with the solder was as inept at that as everything else. I was able to break that old line nut loose and replace the supply line. I will have to take this up again when I finally tile the floor and tile up to the flange, then reseat it. New wax seal is the main requirement for that operation. MOM, I know you like to help, but thanks for keeping the dogs out of the bathroom, they'd always try to offer up kisses if I'm kneeling while working on something.

And the best way to assure that something never gets lost in the first place is to securely attach it to something you hate that won't go away. Velcro those hose washers to that ugly tea towel your ex-mother-in-law gave you and they'll never go missing again.

So - the ONLY reason the washer finally turned up, and worked beautifully when I replaced it in the supply line valve, is because I'm probably going to have to cut off that whole valve and put a new pressure valve on the line. Some blankety-blank fool soldered the nut holding hard water supply line in place. All it needed was finger tightening, not solder, fercrhristsake. I'd probably break the fitting before I was able to twist off that nut.

The fastest way to find the thing that is misplaced? Buy another one - the first one turns up the moment you enter the house with the new item. Never fails.

Never store hose washers in a laundry room! Every time a sock disappears from the dryer, it will take a hose washer with it to keep it company. Somewhere, there's a civilization composed of nothing but lost socks and mysteriously missing hose washers.

Why are the rubber washer kits not in my cupboard in the laundry room? That's what I was asking myself when I climbed up on the stepstool to see if I have a washer to replace in the slow-leak of the supply line faucet.

#DYI plumbing project underway this evening. To be continued in the morning (to replace a part dropped down the drain . . . alas). MOM is not thrilled, but as a participant in this household, she doesn't have much to say about the delay.

They were straight up nasty.

Do you know a nicer vice or

'Teetotaler' never made sense to me. Teatotaler, maybe? As in someone who only drinks tea as a 'strong' beverage? Teetotaler... someone who only wears t-shirts? 'Teetotaler' also conjures up images of sucklings when lysdexia is involved. Teetotalers.

But Amos, you're a teetotaler. You told me so when I offered you some Old Thompson whiskey at Getaway and you said, "That doesn't even show off any cheap corn sweetness. It's monotonously evil in a way that's hard to describe other than by saying that it's earthy in the bad way, like a pissed mattress. And it's why I am a teetotaler."

See, that's short-sighted. A good single malt produces a much more refined, dry, witty, subtle, nuanced, sense of the ridiculous than mere gin, which tends to produce only raucous, bawdy, coarse and low-toned humor. Mom is capable of class, and flights of the purest fancy, when properly fueled. Saving money on her booze will cut your upfront costs, but at a great cost of lower quality BS throughout the thread! Ya gotta take responsibility for the consequences, man!

Stop talking about good distilled spirits in front of Mom! She's perfectly content with cheap no-name gin from the ABC store. If you folks' loose talk about single malts and exotic cocktails should give her a hankering for more expensive fare, I'm not helping foot the bill. I'm okay with "Mom's gin bill" being a line item on my monthly budget, but I'll draw the line at "Mom's Laphroaig bill".

Got a 3kg turkey because I asked meat dept. manager to set aside the smallest one he could find during the sale before Easter; spuds; carrots; turnip; dressing (Stove Top Dressing on accounta Mum won't eat anything with onions in it... SNIFF!... I love my dressing of just dry bread, summer savoury, and onions set in the fridge overnight); olives; assorted pickles; Dutch apple pie... Jaysus! I am gaining weight already!

Truth will out

I AM A BOMBASTIC BITTER BASTARD BIGOT!

I am not that different from an alt right bigot except I do not identify the Jews or Muslims or Blacks or Mexicans or Journalists or Libs or the transmogrified gender variants everywhere in the world as the 'Bad Hombres' and evil enemies.

I identify the 20% of the successful sociopaths and psychopaths with zero empathy as the evil enemy, but even then they may somehow still serve a purpose in sustaining the species. Should we, can we treat Amygdala disorders? How?

is amazing how some people can make huge problems small and how others can make small problems huge.

This week was the first week a technique involving injectable dye and lasers to highlight abnormal tissue and get it all out.
Sometimes good health is just a matter of emptying the trash.

Immunology combined with new imaging techniques are effective across the board including brain cancer to lymph nodes. We no longer need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Advocating for the newest best treatment is the most valuable thing we really can do. Getting that treatment need be our only worthwhile worry.

The mighty Firehole, Madison, and Yellowstone are pretty close to out of their banks here with more snowmelt coming.

Bee-Dubya, I kinda like on of these. or one of these. Mostly though I don't fool with snakes and they don't fool with me. The only time I've had a close encounter with a rattler I eventually picked it up and threw it away.

Ya want snakes? Build yersel' a snake pit, lassie. Get a length or two, depending on the amount of snakes desired, of 6X6 cedar, a piece of metal roofing, and a rock. I don't think I need to provide construction instructions. Works a charm. Had one in front and one in back of my camp. Many snakes, no mice.

There's a snake identification group on facebook, and a week or two ago a woman made the remark that copperheads have a "Hershey's kiss" pattern - bingo! That works for me. I look at a lot of photos of the snakes people post (I wish they wouldn't kill them first) and have learned a lot.

I'm glad you included that last ¶ because even venomous snakes play a pretty darned interesting role. I need a few kingsnakes or ratsnakes or something right now to catch some mice and rats in my garden - the neighbor's cat apparently can't do it all by herself.

Hi again, Mom. We've had a fair amount of rain here in Floribama also, resulting in a bumper crop of chanterelle mushrooms. I was going to go pick a bunch this afternoon, but got sidetracked when I walked past my pond and saw a Florida cottonmouth frolicking about in the water. I abandoned my mushroom hunt and returned to the house where I grabbed one of these and returned to the pond, only to find that Mr. Cottonmouth had ceased his frolicking and gone into hiding. He refused to show his face again, the coward.

As a result, I have been forced to reschedule the meeting between Mr. Cottonmouth and Mr. Remington for early tomorrow morning. Will advise outcome of meeting tomorrow. I suspect Mr. Remington will get the better end of the deal.

By the way, I do not dislike snakes. I only dislike cottonmouths who choose to take up residence in my pond where my dog likes to play. If Mr. C. would like to relocate to a nearby creek before sunrise, the meeting with Mr. Remington will be canceled.

The kind of clowns we're populating our gummint with won't be eaten by any bear, not one bite. They taste funny.

Losing loppers is a sorry fate, so I am full of joy that BWL's lost loppers are no longer loose. The Lord loves a located lopper.

We have had several MORE days of rain, Mom, and the Mighty Eno is swollen again. I swear that river swells and subsides like a Bishopric in Sunday School. No danger though--it carries the waters away handily, down into the Neuse River Basin, into the Neuse and the Pamlico Sound, where its waters wash up against the Ocacroke and Hatteras Island before wending their way once again into the arms of Mother Atlantic. More information here.

God bless the mighty Eno and the waters that run down it to the sea, is what I say.

Hi, Mom! I have been landscaping to let more light into our garden. Largely, I've been lopping off low-lying limbs. But, yesterday, I lost my loppers. I looked and looked, but the loppers were lost. It was not a laming loss, since I have lots of loppers, but the lost loppers are the loppers I like the most. I had to make do with loppers I like less. But, later, I located my lost loppers! They were leaning against a ladder! It was lovely to go back to lopping limbs with loppers I really like.
