Little Hawk has secured a soft and comfortable place in a small pond from which he can make decrees about all things about American politics and find them bad.

Fortunately, we have more than enough jaded pessimistic cynics of our own, so we don't have to import any extras.

Shame doesn't vote because he has to mark a ballot with an "X" and he doesn't want to write his name on anything.

Almost nobody "elsewhere" would be naive enough to vote for the Democrats or the Republicans... ;-) Although...most of them would have voted for Obama, that's for sure. I would have, given the choice. (but in doing so, I would have been ready and not very surprised to see the $ySStem soon bend Mr Obama to its unholy purposes once he was in office).

Maybe they are voting for 'em in the USof A, but likely less so elsewhere:)

Hey, people are still voting for the Democrats and Republicans, aren't they? ;-) Don't be so surprised.

Happy Thanksgiving MOAB, and to all the Moabites.

I am astonished to find this thing still going.

"Monkeys are very nice, sociable animals. Except for their habit flinging their excrement at others. Were it not for this (and their habit of masturbating in public) they would be as welcome at a dinner party as any Senator"

Rapaire....are you sure they are monkeys?   Could they be some of the human locals you post about:)

If he went to jail there would probaably be women lined bringing him cigarettes and magazines....and a few conjugal visits in the jail trailer.

Shane would take that warning seriously, Janie. He has already had enough trouble with the Ontario police to keep him (and them) busy enough as it is.

While all you boyz is bizy philosophizing, bragging, writing poetry and playing the dozens, I've been in the kitchen playing prep cook for the big family feast tomorrow.

Onlyest thing is, see, I got kinda carried away with the menu and at the grocery and right now I got a lot more feast than people to eat it, even if we have leftovers every night 'til Christmas. I know all of youse are headed for the assorted in-laws tomorrow, but I was thinking we could all get together Friday night with MOM at my house for a pot luck, only don't feel like you have to bring anything - well- maybe some wine or good scotch - cuz' I will likely still have an abundance, a plethora, even, of ham, turkey, dressing with and without oysters, Missy potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, green beans, brussel sprouts with shallots in a dijon mustard sauce, fresh cranberry orange relish, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, mince pie, soft dinner rolls and hard french rolls, fruit salad and good coffee. The wine and the veggie tray will probably have been polished off already, but it don't take but a minute to toss together a salad, and like I already said, feel free to bring another bottle of wine.

No bananas, so Chongo will need to stay in Chicago, I don't 'llow no floozies but meself in my house so Chinga is not welcomed, and the Highway Patrol is already on alert to arrest Shane should he cross anywhere into North Carolina, so he would be better off not coming - North Carolina jails ain't fun.

"they (monkeys) would be as welcome at a dinner party as any Senator"

Even moreso, I would think. ;-) They are less destructive than the average Senator.

Amos, I am getting a clearer idea all the time of who Chinga is, the bizarre thoughts that pass through her twisted little brain, the nasty mindgames she engages in... Horrifying! It all reminds me of this woman I went out with in the early 90's. The fact that I survived the experience speaks volumes for my basic resilience in the face of adversity.

Monkeys are very nice, sociable animals. Except for their habit flinging their excrement at others. Were it not for this (and their habit of masturbating in public) they would be as welcome at a dinner party as any Senator.

These is the only things that separate Shame from a monkey: monkeys have better aim, whereas Shame flings it around, fingerpaints with it, and then brags about how he can out drink, out last, out eat, and out fight any twenty monkeys. This is true, except that he confuses monkeys with bananas.

As Alf Whitehead once said to me, "If it washn't fer exishtensh (hic) we wouldn't be here."

Monkeys, I think, are animals of which one can tire very quickly on a social level. Entertaining as they at first appear and comely as they unquestionably remain, in fur and form, there is about their features a malevolent glare, a greed and a message of selfishness that puts one in mind of dreadfully spoilt infants. There is a message in their faces that admits no possibility of affection on their part. They get attached to people, and scratch those who come close to their favourites, but you always sense that it comes from egotism not devotion. In our world, that is: that's why they make appalling pets. In their own world they are magnificent. [...] I suppose if you run a lodge in the middle of the jungle tame parrots and monkeys are more or less de rigueur. It worked on me: and to call them tame was to insult them. They were wild but chose to live hard by the lodge.
The Book of Imaginary Beings by Jorge Luis Borges

I don't think they would be able to reproduce, Ed, if they were both males. Agreed? If, hower, we found a female who had all those same opposite characteristics to Amos, then the possibility of reproduction between her and Amos would be there...theoretically.

I shudder to think what results that possibility might produce if conception did occur.

Now Chinga...she is opposite to Amos in many ways. But they seem to share a mutual disapproval of Chongo, and that would invalidate Chinga as Amos's true opposite.

If Amos and this imaginary opposite reproduced ... would there be negative results, (minus the potential pleasure or pain, that is).

Q: I need a Christmas gift for Amos, one who "has it all". Any ideas?
A: Give him the opposite, someone who don't have anything at all.

Closing observation:
"Necessity is the mother of invention" is a silly proverb. "Necessity is the mother of futile dodges" is much nearer the truth.
-- Alfred North Whitehead

BTW, Rapaire is attempting to articulate the legal principle de minimis non curat lex. The law does not concern itself with trifles (such as the trifle of misspelling minimis). This is a time-honored truism of law that teaches that if consequences are too trivial to worry about, a technical violation of a law is of no concern.

Great stuff, Amos! Bravo! Well writ!

Now, Ed....I propose that Amos does have an opposite. His opposite would be a very short, hairy, swarthy man from New Jersey; a man so inarticulate that his entire vocabulary consisted of 35 different words and phrases, most of them obscene; a man who drank heavily and committed random acts of violence, specially upon females; a man who valued action above words and set out to prove it by robbing banks and convenience stores; a man who would not vote for the Democrats unless you paid him to and paid him well; a man who listens to Rush Limbaugh and hangs on his every word; a man who would never waste time trying to impress people with his intellectual gifts and verbal skills...because he doesn't have any! ;-)

There is Amos's opposite. Aren't we glad we don't know him?

Old Ed stood high on the tops'l yahd
A-staring into the sun.
To see the way he stared, we feared
Some damage might be done.
And sure enough, when his watch was done,
An' he shinnied down the stay,
He started spouting Marxist thoughts
In a tatterdemalion way.

Now Little Hawk, on the foc's'le head,
Was watching in the gloom
As the phosphorescent breakers passed,
An' he dreamed he was in his room.
He fancied seeing shabby types
Of simian and Canuck.
He dreamed them up and gave them names,
And his fancies kinda stuck.
For when old Hawk came off that watch
He swore his chums were there!
So we tied him up and stowed him below,
Just to give him a change of air.

And sure, it was a patchwork gang
We'd sailed with from the docks,
With prim Rapaire, and wild-eyed Bruce,
And Still and Jane in frocks.
But we didn't care if we all seemed odd,
We were glad to be under weigh.
For we heard the call of the Mother's voice
Singing "Thirty-three of Kay!"

Ed, you write like a tatterdemalion Marxist. Everything does NOT have its opposite. I, for example, have none. However, almost everything can be assessed on various gradients of greater or lesser degree of any given attribute.

Everything has its opposite. Opposites manifest a spectrum of polarities between them. Humans have varying degrees of strength, intelligence & wisdom. Harmony is achieved when an equilibrium is maintained between opposing forces. Though truth is murky, if you look objectively the purpose of Shane, and his brood can be seen.

Indeed, including the fact that almost all women are, to one degree or another, appealing. Not so Shane. And most women would like to see good things happen and are willing to help make them occur. Not so Shane. Women, by and large, honor human feelings, spirituality, intent, good will, courage, accomplishment, sensitivity, a sense of aesthetics, and the far horizons of the soul. Not so Shane.

Women seem, to some degree, to subscribe to every human talent and virtue known to humanity. Not so Shane. Women strive to communicate, to be understood, and to understand others. Not so Shane. Women strive to become better, regret their sins or offenses against others, prefer to make things right and earn forgiveness, and to forgive those who err against them, generally. Not so Shane.

Women in general seek understanding and strive to use their intelligence to find a good path. Not so Shane. Women tend to modesty and are soft-spoken, prefer not to brag, and let their actions speak louder than their words. Not so Shane.

I think you're onto something here, Little Hawk.
