I might attend if St. Bernard's would put on a wing and a prayer night. And they'd be sure to get a crowd if they got a big screen for Thursday night football.

The Jesuits thought the whole world was their cloister. But cloister is as cloister does, I always say. BEtter than a boke int he eye with a sharp sacrament.

Jesuits aren't cloistered. Trappists, maybe, but not Jesuits. The bloody POPE is a bloody Jesuit!

Drive to the nearest aerodrome. Have your truck put on an airplane and flown to airport coded "PIH." I'll take it from there; have the airplane wait so it can take the truck home. After that, feel free to drive it anywhere and don't worry about the play in the master cylinder, it will go away soon.

Just because there's a Moab in Utah doesn't mean we couldn't have one in California, too! Californians are like that--when they see something nice somewhere else, they immediately want to buy one and take it home with them.

Welcome back, Sir Hamish. Where he' ye roamed all this long time?

There's already a MOAB in Utah. We could rename it "Mother" or "Khandu" or even "Bullville" though. Are you thinking of running it as a cult-like place, Amos? It would make a nice retirement community for old folkers, and people we don't like we could just fix the brakes on their cars and, well, let them drive.

Today, traffic on the two main arterials which vee to either side of me about 400m from me will be heavy. I am in the midst of the largest shopping district in NB. It's catchment area includes most of NB, all of PEI and a large portion of NS. Yesterday, in the wind, rain and wet flurries, I was silly enough to attempt to go to Costco (Price Club) just before noon for eggs and to scout the Kissmeass crap as I figured it might not be terribly crowded. Silly me. I only got close enough to see the lineups of vehicles trying to get into the parking lot and turned frightened and sped away. I went back just before 5 and only had to stand at the check out for 15 minutes but I got my free half dozen Omega 3 eggs and a 1 kg Vito's lasagna. The lasagna alone is worth the wait. Mum's fav. It is now sunny and I expect this opening day of the new Target store located about 300m from me will create vehicular chaos. I think I'll head out for groceries sooner than later. So, if you want anything, you had better let me know sooner than later.

I am suggesting that we buy this little town. We could rename it MOAB and elect Joe Offer as Mayor. It has a owrking distillery, resort, and restaurant. What more could we possibly need? What could possibly go worng? :D

I'll clear the counter and get out the cutting boards. Any of you want to come over to cut up veggies to freeze this evening? I spent a couple of hours in the garden this morning picking lots of buckets of stuff. It's supposed to freeze overnight. Hot peppers, green peppers, sweet peppers - lots of peppers.

Your relatives in Dangle WERE wasted. They were hanged, beheaded, drawn, quartered, castrated, burnt at the stake, shot by their neighbours, boiled in oil, buried alive, drowned, and what remained was sprayed with disinfectant. The ground they had occupied was scraped down to bare rock and the soil itself exorcised before being made into bricks for a pigsty. The rocks were sowed with salt and all traces of the McBrides of Dangle erased from all records of Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany, the Isle of Man, and the rest of Europe. Did you know that the ship carrying the McBrides who escaped put them ashore on an island between Prince Charles Island and the Melville Peninsula? That they were rescued by Yu'piks who took pity on them, believing that no human beings could be as miserable and wretched a lot as these were? That after doing their rescuers dirty -- VERY dirty -- they were taken up by a British prison ship and eventually wandered into Blind River? That they were only accepted in Blind River because there was a need for people to stir the sludge in the waste water treatment plant by hand and/or wading in it for twenty-five cents a month and all they could eat, and at that they were overpaid? Are you aware of the "Let's Finish the McBrides" Act passed in Ireland last month and currently in the offices of the Irish Secret Service, the infamous, deadly and ubiquitous Táin Bó Cúailnge?

Just remember their motto: "If you run, you'll only die tired."

NAMING OF PARTS
    Henry Reed

To-day we have naming of parts. Yesterday,
We had daily cleaning. And to-morrow morning,
We shall have what to do after firing. But to-day,
To-day we have naming of parts. Japonica
Glistens like coral in all of the neighboring gardens,
And to-day we have naming of parts.

This is the lower sling swivel. And this
Is the upper sling swivel, whose use you will see,
When you are given your slings. And this is the piling swivel,
Which in your case you have not got. The branches
Hold in the gardens their silent, eloquent gestures,
Which in our case we have not got.

This is the safety-catch, which is always released
With an easy flick of the thumb. And please do not let me
See anyone using his finger. You can do it quite easy
If you have any strength in your thumb. The blossoms
Are fragile and motionless, never letting anyone see
Any of them using their finger.

And this you can see is the bolt. The purpose of this
Is to open the breech, as you see. We can slide it
Rapidly backwards and forwards: we call this
Easing the spring. And rapidly backwards and forwards
The early bees are assaulting and fumbling the flowers:
They call it easing the Spring.

They call it easing the Spring: it is perfectly easy
If you have any strength in your thumb: like the bolt,
And the breech, and the cocking-piece, and the point of balance,
Which in our case we have not got; and the almond-blossom
Silent in all of the gardens and the bees going backwards and forwards,
For to-day we have naming of parts.

Hardness of Heart

In the first watch no death but made us mourn;
Now tearless eyes run down the daily roll,
Whose names are written in the book of death;
For sealed are now the springs of tears, as when
The tropic sun makes dry the torrent's course
After the rains. They are too many now
For mortal eyes to weep, and none can see
But God alone the Thing itself and live.
We look to seaward, and behold a cry!
To skyward, and they fall as stricken birds
On autumn fields; and earth cries out its toll,
From the Great River to the world's end--toll
Of dead, and maimed and lost; we dare not stay;
Tears are not endless and we have no more.

A gift from thee to me
Is Forty Nine of K and Three:

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.

Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.

Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! - An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime.......

Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.
In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;

If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues, -

My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

Never mind, Sham. I realize now that there wouldn't be anything to squirt out, so I've cancelled my tickets to Blind River. Besides, as I've said before I think you might be a relative and I don't like squeezing the heads of relatives because the carpet stains depress me so much that I have to buy a new carpet.

But I'll leave you with this thought. Have a good day, Sham.

Yeah, Sham, it's Rememberance Day in Canada and other places; in the US it's called "Veterans Day." Now, Sham, I'm a veteran -- people shot at me and all that combat stuff happened. And Sham -- I've got PTSD. I don't LIKE people to dis me. It makes me angry...really angry...so angry that I want to squeeze the pimple those people have for a head just to see the pop and watch the stuff squirt out. Would you like that, Sham? Would you?

In Flanders Field

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

John McCrae

I have all the ingredients at hand and the recipe for mémère's tourtière. You will not find this recipe on the internUt as it is an Acadian dish. Oh, sure, you can find one a them there La Belle Province recipes but they gor fancy shit like bay leaves... even CELERY!... in em. Nope. None a that fancy crap fer yer SE NB French. See, that's a problem. When you are SEEEErounded ev'y day be peckerwoods hammering around you you never get no amnesia about the weather nor nothing like. Why, they hardly talk about nothing but!! So the hive mind does you a good turn by keeping your thoughts in line, see? And that is important. You start wandering off that trail into the wild cogno-jungle, there's not htinking WHUT you might end up thinking or remembering, and then where would you be? LAST thing you want is untrammeled remembering and thinking, lawsamassy no you don't.

See why is, cuz just remembering most of this lifetime and such scale o' stuff is about all a body can take in normal human configgeration. You just mind, young Rapp, and keep your soul outta trouble, mark my words. You hear?

Gee, and I spent most of the day up on the range and all I could see was the mountains ahead of me. To the West, the Snake River Plain stretched out to the snow-capped peaks of the Pioneers and the White Clouds 120 miles away, with the silver slash of American Falls Reservoir scintillating in middle distance. Yes, the snow has begun its inexorable procession down the hills, but the gorgeous blue sky and the sunshine brought with it a kind of amnesia about what may come.

ell, the congestion here is worse'n' it was, true, but nowhere like LA. There traffic-jam rates go from zero to 1.5, while ours hardly ever go below fifteen. Still, there's something to be said for zero congestion, unless you want to mingle with people.

As Bobby Lee Frust wrote back in fourth grade:

The fog comes in
On little cats' feet.
It squats over the city,
Does its business,
And is gone.

The nun teaching us was not pleased.

Partly sunny and 54, sixties and clear the rest of the week, and nothing like the congestion of Sandy Ego.

He should try a blonde rinse. Maybe they both should.

Here in San Diego the nearby Pacific has sent its vapors intot he air and over the coastal hills, sending a thick fog into the nearby valleys such as our own. It rolls through the quiet streets touching the neat stuccoed houses and the laid out lawns with a hint of gloom, of some infinite moist potential for endless change, chaotic re-invention, and instant disguise. The normally bright and snug homes take on sinister, fog-dripping, wispy looks, as if the Masters of Reality were thinking of pulling the Big Switch on the world.

Tomorrow, as the little blue planet makes her way around to point us toward Sol once more, the light will start bending early down into our piece of sky, warming the chill and dissipating the tendrils of fog that remain; the bright blue cheer of the Southern California sky will reassert itself as the temperature heads toward the high sixties (F) and another beautiful weekend in Paradise will commence.

I am excited to see it arrive.

Didn't know she'd left town, actually. But then she sometimes disappears for days and weeks at a time and then reappears laden with some ancient archeological treasure. The last time it was an unabridged dictionary of Linear A, which proved that Martians founded the Cretan and Cody Complex cultures and linked them with a series of canals which later burst and created the oceans as we know them today.

This book is on display at the Museum of the Idaho Legion in Bliss.
