I have never got to see the Chief's Headdress or been to the Waffle House yet, but I must tell you all that if this day had never existed,

...if somehow January 15th had been eliminated from the calender you would not have the pleasure of my company in MOAB. Because, yes,....

today is...

khandu'S BIRTHDAY!!!

What is more, I have reversed the aging process completely and find that I am actually growing younger each hour!! I attribute this to two imported Guinness' and a glass of supermarket V8 daily along with as many High-steppin' ladies as I can possibly manage to **** while awake. My wife took one look at me and tore up our licence saying all she thought was wrong! HAW, HAW, HAW!!!

Now that flu shots are available to a wider customer base, I can go on Wednesday to one of the community clinics. But with my youthful appearance, I will have to take along my birth certificate and my driver's license to convince them that I am truly, if only barely, old enough to now receive a flu shot.

:-)

Pome on Bullshit

BS is far.
BS is wide.
BS is deep.
BS informs the world.
Everwhere I look, BS is, both far, and wide.
BS is deep upon the land in every place,
Unless,
Horror of all horrors,
Shame of all shames,
It is in the very eye of the beholder!!
Dear Gawd,
Tell me I am not projecting!

Oh, fer God's sake! What day is Tweed's friggin' birthday? Last year it was on the 14th (or, at least this thread was begun by khandu on the 14th). This year it's on the 15th? Could it be that Tweedwhoisaslokhandu and khanduwhoisasloTweed simply don't friggin' know when their birthday is?

Maybe Tweed was abducted for a few hours, celebrated an intergalactic birthday, and returned, feeling slightly confused and with no memory of events..

and who would the abductees be?

the Faeries, of course!!

According to another thread going around today, yesterday vanished so he missed it. Oops. That can happen to anyone!

Well, turns out yesterday didn't vanish entirely. The spyware-induced connectivity problems that the 'Cat was having were either intermitent or only kept some computers from connecting 'cause there's lotsa posts dated 01/14/05. Since I wasn't able to get on at any time on that date, I assumed nobody had been able to. In other words, I made an idiot of myself again. And, since I am an idiot, I must be Tweed! So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

Thou may still be Thyself, good BWL. Logically, it may be Necessary to be an idiot to be Tweed, but that alone is not Sufficient.

Okay, but to get it right, Freda, the abductors would be fairies, and the abductee would be Tweed.

And as Scarlett might have said, "Tweedle-dee-dee."

Are you sure SRS?

I mean, maybe tweed had an ulterior motive, and he abducted the faeries somehow to use their talents for his nefarious purposes. You just never know about that Tweed. :)

Is this some sort of code? Why has he taken time to capitalize the L,N,T, and S? If we read only those words that have been so "marked", we come up with:

"Logically, necessary Tweed sufficient!"

This is Tarzan-speak obviously, as he has placed no verbs in his sentence, but he is still able to convey the real message that
should read:

"Logically, I find it necessary to announce to the world that Tweed's brain is far superior to most humans that I've been in contact with, and his reasoning powers are more than sufficient to implement safety programs at nuclear power plants or munitions facilities."

Which is what I've believed all along. I am sending out my resumes today. You are a man obv great vision Amos!!!

Hah! Amos is wrong! Amos is wrong! Amos is wrong!

Yes, we've finally hit a topic about which our dear friend Amos, who has oft astounded us with his encyclopedic knowledge of damned-near-everything, hasn't a clue! Amos knows abolutely nothing about being an idiot because he's not one! His trying to apply the rules of logic to idiocy falls flat on its face. Idiocy cannot be syllogized! While it is certainly true that the syllogism "Tweed is an idiot - Bee-dubya is an idiot - therefore, Bee-dubya is Tweed" is a case of extremely faulty logic in the everyday world, it works just fine in the idiot world.

And, if you don't believe me, just consider this: Virtually every political decision made by the alleged president of the US over the last four years has been totally illogical. Yet, somehow, he got re-elected for another four years. Why? Because he's an idiot and the rules of logic don't apply to idiots.

So -- you're saying that it is sufficient? You are defending your postulate that "since you made an idiot of yourself, you MUST be Tweed"???

Don't you realize that means that every idiot is Tweed?

Are you being fair to him, imposing on him such a huge burden of multiple personalities?? You are elevating him to the status of a sort of Clown God, obliged to support the identity of every idiot in life. Start counting, and I hope you know how to pray in Idiota.

Don't you realize that means that every idiot is Tweed?

Yes. That's the whole point. It is so. It has ever been so. It will always be so.

Just consider these lyrics from none other than The Beatles:

I am Tweed as you are Tweed as they are Tweed and we are Tweed together...

Goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob g'goo.

Yes, that's the way the song, originally entitled "I am Tweed" went, but the Fab Four had to change it to "I am the Walrus" because walruses are a lot cuter than Tweed. And, anyway, "I am the Walrus" made a lot more sense than "I am Tweed".

I just had an email from Noam Chomsky who would like me to point out that you CAN'T compare apples and orange among idiots. Tweed may be an idiot, and Bush is an idiot, but he's a criminally stupid idiot, not to be confused with Tweed's cultivated garden-variety idiocy. With the Bush brand they started with the basic idiot material but through zealous super-charging the annealed result is the embarrassing scare-them-shitless-into-voting-for-him idjit.

The Idjit-Bush annealing process is highly technical, involving smoke and mirrors.

Hello friends. I'd like to introduce you to Ukriah Flemboggish. Famous channeler of animal entities.
Mr. Flemboggish has graciously agreed to do a sitting for us at MOAB. I will be his assistant by writing what he says while he is in trance.
So, without further delay, please welcome Mr. Ukriah Flemboggish.

Ukriah: "Hello good folks at Mudcat Cafe. I am pleased to be here. Tonight I will communicate with the former pet of famous poet, writer, Suzette Flippmeover's Pom-Poo, Barf." Now if you will permit me....

Rustic:- Mr Flemboggish is now settling down to go into a state of trance. A zone unknown to most.

Ukriah now channeling Barf: " I am here. Barf. Thank you for hearing me and letting me tell my story to my former caregiver, Suzette how my life was with her.
First thing I want you to know, I didn't mind doing those stupid dog tricks, like that one you had me do where I had to be still with a piece of food on my nose, and wait patiently for you to tell me I could finally eat a tiny morsal of cheese, after waiting five fucking minutes! No that didn't bother me.

Ukriah/Barf: The few things that did bother me was when you rubbed my nose in my own piss. Now that was upsetting. I sat and watched you piss in the house and when I did it I got my nose rubbed in it and tossed outside.
It bothered me when you talked to me in that stupid child voice of yours. Come here beebee, oh you such a cute little beebee, ooch-e-choochie kind of crap. Even when I gained age over you Suzette, you continued this annoying baby talk. Where was the respect?
You continually thought you could tell me what to do. Remember all those times I ignored you? Those were the fun times how easy I could piss you off!
It also bothered me when you would refer to human men as dogs, and human women as bitches. Was that supposed to be an insult? What was the deal here Suzette? I have never once referred to my friends as humans. No respect.

Ukriah/Barf: One more thing. I loved it when you started feeding me that canned, soft dog food. That's when my teeth started going to hell and I lost most of them. Then you thought you were being good to me by feeding me a bone once in awhile, and I had no teeth left to chew them.
Now you know why I buried all my bones. No respect.
Suzette, it really is okay. I hold no grudges. You tried your best and I was devoted and loved you. Thanks for all those years of caring.
Signing out, Barf.

Rustic: Ukriah is coming out of his trance. He looks a little dazed but doing fine. "Ukriah, I'd like to thank you for being here tonight and letting us all in on this session. For all of us here at the MOAB and Mudcat, I say goodnight."

Glad to be of service, dear Tweed; however I wish to point out that SRS i smistaken in asserting that subsets of the genus "idiot" whether differentiated by their favorite activity (f***ing idiot), their condition of relative grace (goddamned idiot) or gracefulness (clumsy idiot) of even abysmal moral failure (Godforsaken asshole Bush)) were excluded from the logical proposition that if someone is an idiot, he is therefore Tweed.

ALL idiots are embraced by this proposition, which in fact may be a scientific breakthrough, identifying one thing held in common by all idiots. This may be a historic moment. Unfortunately those (like idiot Bush) who have had historectomies (forcible disassociation with any real sense of human history, caused by drugs, alcoholism, drunkenness, or inherent ignobility) will be unable to appreciate it, because they are idiots, and therefore Tweed. Nevertheless, historic is it.

Ah, yes! The truly great thing about being an idiot, about fully coming to terms with one's own idiocy, about admitting that one is, in fact, Tweed, is that when one reads a post like the previous one by Amos one does not feel compelled to dissect it and attempt to comprehend it. There's no need to say, "I know this makes sense! If only I were smart enough to understand it..." One can just say, "Hmmm... Must mean sumfin' t' smart people but, hey, I'm an idiot. Fuck it."

Well I, for one, found this to be as nicely turned bit of BS as I've read in a long time:

their condition of relative grace (goddamned idiot) or gracefulness (clumsy idiot) of even abysmal moral failure (Godforsaken asshole Bush))

That juxtaposition of "relative grace" to "gracefulness" was something that one can only dream of achieving when putting together thoughts and looking for good connections and transitions along the way. This is as tidy an intellectual pivot as I've seen in ages. Good job, Amos! (I know, BWL talked about not dissecting it, but I'd already done so and copied the phrase by the time I read his remarks).

A trope is a figure of speech designed to give vividness or reality to an idea.

A holograph (back-formed from holistic and -graph meaning image) is an image in three dimension; the peculiarities of the holograph include the odd trait that any bit of the medium (a laser-etched film, for example) contains all the data (in analog wave records) to re-generate the entire whole. Just the way that DNA from a cell of your toe has enough information to regenerate your whole body and brain.

A holotrope, a loosely defined term used by wild-eyed poetic types or over-heated mentalists in academic pursuit, is a single thought, expression, description, or figure of speech which seems to encapsulate or capture all the critical attributes of a whole region or subject of discourse.

Do I have that roughly right, there, SRS, user-of-holtrope? :D

What can I say? It was in the invisible writing. I shuffled the deck of my small collection of interesting or useful big words (the 75 cent variety) and found those that I thought I could string together into a slightly coherent thought. Holotrope may not be as utilitarian as bricoleur (another one that Amos made much of), but it has its uses. One or two of these words in a scholarly essay, dovetailed precisely into the discussion, but always applied judiciously, can be just enough to take that grade over the top.

Lacuna

Plural lacunae. From Latin lacuna, gap, pool, cavern. With reference to manuscripts, it means to be defective for a portion of the text (usually short). Notice that a lacuna always refers to a portion of a manuscript which has been lost (due to the disappearance of leaves or the effects of water or trimming or whatever); it should not be used to refer to a section of the text which never was found in a manuscript. The adjective lacunose may refer to a manuscript with many lacunae.

Simulacrum/Simulacra

The dictionary definitions that popped up online were wrong, or at least, incomplete. It is used to mean a similuation of reality that in the end is perceived as more real than the thing it was supposed to simulate. It's a very PoMo (PostModern) useful term.
