I took care of it, so you up there in The Bend should be able to see what I'm talking about. It's awful...and be certain to tell Peace.

That is disturbing news! Shane will be personally threatened by it.

Poor Mom! Holding on with her fingernails, asking "who are my relatives?" and "Where the *#%$!!ing *#&%$@ are my kids gonna show up? I'm losing my grip!"

But good child that I am I rescued her. That's why I'm her favorite and you aren't.

Chong wears a babushka, not a scarf. That's because Chong is actually a little old lady now, grizzled and gray around the muzzle, slow moving, and eating older bananas cuz they're soft and easy to gum.

Gorilla Scouts now help Chong across the street, and only rarely push Chong in front of the cars and trucks. Chong ain't what Chong used to be, but then Chong never was.

Sham McBride has gotten older too. He can hardly make it out of the dumpster unaided now.

That is a truly horrifyin' sight. Sad! As fer me, I could wipe up the floor with any of you bindle stiffs without even breakin' into a sweat.

Okay, THIS is really exciting! I have found a way to get to Blind River, Ontario and get cleanly away again after I beat the livin' snot out of Sham McBride for all the nasty things he's said about me! Yeah, yeah, I know -- he's a broken down derelict drunkard but still he should be held to account. AND it's possible to take along my brass knucks and my blackjack and really give him a good working over!

Then two days later I'm in Chicago and can finally put an end to that louse-ridden chimpanzee. No violence, of course -- I'll just "modify" Chong's walker a bit, or perhaps put a special surprise in a cheap cigar.

Wow, this is exciting! Two clean-ups in three days, and a lovely cruise to boot!

My, my. Threatened with a tommygun OR bare hands. Chong doesn't have bare hands -- they're all covered with hair from habits best left undescribed. Suffice to say that self-abuse is alive and well among certain chimps.

And Sham, I probably wouldn't be able to keep my meals down if I were anywhere near you. The stench emanating from you would see to that. But I'll be wearing a suit that protects against biological hazards AND a gas mask. Don't worry about others (not that you would) afterwards -- I'll be sure to pour enough chlorine bleach on your body to prevent any more contamination than you've already provided.

Say, Sham? Did you know that I found out that I'm actually your father? Yup. It was a faulty condom and I'm really and truly your father. How do you like them apples, SON?

Son, you can get those kind of clothes. They come in bright orange, blank and white stripes (vertical or horizontal), yellow and black stripes (same), pink, and off-white with an orange bulls-eye target on the back.

Cops don't bother you at all. Just prison guards and sometimes other prisoners. And even today in some countries you can still sometimes get a nice black hood, too!

Looks like a lovely ship for a cruise, on which you might actually feel like you're on a ship and not in a humongous city afloat.

MOM says if you guys are going to keep threatening to fight that she's going to make you all sleep in the tent in the back yard until you get over it. She doesn't want to hear you whispering threats back and forth between your rooms and putting nasty notes under each other's doors.

And, rap... yer gonna get treated to some of the best fresh fish and seafood you ever ate. Make sure you have a top notch camera and camcorder and be apprised... such devices will never do justice to what you will see with your own eyes.

Ach, gnu, and wouldn't you be a great one to have along? Telling us about the place and all, directing our feet to the best views and most historic places, the best bars and such places? For you see, it's really this thing and there's two other people (at least) who are very interested. It would be a rowdy bunch indeed if they, and some others whom I suspect are having their arms twisted, come. Why, you could be our interpreter!

Amos could come be he's already been everywhere and he's gotten all snooty and all. He once told me that he was Eric the Red's navigator and did it all because he KNEW where everything was already. Told me that he once used his bare hands to paddle a whaleboat from San Diego to Betio, navigating with a shiny penny and a piece of string.

SRS and Eiseley have to work.

1. Your mother was working at Paula's Place in Junction City, Kansas.
2. She was widely used by the guys from Ft. Riley.
3. I was REQUIRED to use a condom so I didn't pick up any disease.
4. Even though the condom was defective I was fortunate not to pick up crabs, clap, regular syph, Black Syph, leprosy, herpes, or any of the other diseases.
5. You'll be pleased to know that I've disinherited you because of what you've said AND that you have denied being my sole offspring.

I heard the howls of outrage and anguish echoing all the way from Blind River at the thought of the cops getting HIS inheritance, and Blind River is about 5 hours from here by car...providing one doesn't hit a moose or a deer on the way there.

I think the idea of a Canadian cruise involving you, me, Amos and gnu is a pretty fine notion. The kibbitzing would be legendary, and the music would be fabulous. Amos and I could attempt to sing and play each other right off the plank, as it were, and you could regale us with stories about the Idaho Legion whilst gnu told wild tales about life in rural New Brunswick.

Ahhhh... I feel like my old self again, I think.

Another snippet. Amos and Gabe were here recently. Prior to that, Beer was here... wonderful stories from that eve abound. That was in 2008. Prior to that was two years earlier when the Newfie invasion took place.

I alluded to neglected housework... actually, I complained loudly... herein regarding preparing this dump for the arrival of Amos and Gabe. Whilst explaining a wee bit of that to A and G, I related that in preparing the downstairs accomodation (recall the timeline) I found a baggie with some sort of tea in it and that the last persons that drank tea that stayed downstairs were them there Newfs. So, this bag of tea is circa 2006. Not a funny story now but it kinda was when I related it the eve of A and G's visit. I have dubbed it carpet tea on accounta that is what it smells like. I told them I chucked it. But, would a truly inquisitive mind not want to know if the potency of tea diminishes over some seven years laying on a basement floor?

I have just heard back from the lab... the lad I gave it to. He says it tastes like fuckin soap and he didn't even catch a buzz. So, keep yer weed in the freezer and cycle it often. If ya leave it on a basement floor for 7 years, it's well past the Best Before Date.

I found this fascinating. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gy_cLJ19HMg

Since I'd rather talk about spirituality than pretty well anything else under the sun, I'd probably have an easier time comprehending Prince than Kevin does.

I gather that Kevin makes movies?

If you stay in Sin John's, ya should consider a pizza from Pizza Experts. The works with tomatoe. Best pie I've ever had and I've had em from Boston ta TO ta... Sin John's. Now, if ya want good fish n chips, Ches', but ya might not be nearby and I dunno if Ches delivers. They do not sell Cotton Candy at the Cotton Club but she will dance at your table for $5.

Gros Mourne is beyond delightful. I have explored it extensively yet minutely over 6 or more visits. The Western Brook Pond Tour Fjord tour is lovely and I enjoyed the walk in and out as well. That was a highlight for me and I am sure you will marvel at the geology of The Tabletops. My fondest memory is, while staying in a cabin in Rocky Harbour, a lad of of about 8, accopanied by his younger bother knocked on the door. Two shocks of red hair and big blue eyes. "Ye wants tongues n cheeks? Fahdder jus come in wit n." "How much?" "Five dollars a pound, sir." "How many pounds ya got?" "Seven pounds sir." "I'll take em all." They stared at each other in disbelief! The older lad said, "First door!" and they raced away, returning out of breath with 7 plastic bags. I gave them $35 dollars and then said, as I handed them each $5, "This is for you, as long as you promise not to tell yer old man. Again, disbelief. "Thank you, SIR!" Breakfast was extra special that day and every day thereafter until all was consumed.

Port au Choix, Red Bay and L'Anse aux Meadows. What can I say. It brings archeology up close and personal. In L'Anse aux Meadows, I was fascinated by the ongoing dig even moreso than the main site, which is a slice of pretty ancient history.

Then, get raedy for icebergs. Up close and personal. Awesome.

Torngats. Awesome. I worked in Makkovik and Nain. Makkovik is where I had a very up close and personal experience with dynamite. My boss thought I had gone for a walk but it started to rain, with hail, so I went back to the trailer for a nap. The 90 second warning. Nope. Didn't hear it. "Fire in the hole!"? Nope. The shot? Yes. It was six feet from my bed. Cracked the toilet in the bathroom next to my room, which was a damn shame because they couldn't hook up the water and sewer so we still had to use the crapper with the plastic bag. Ya know how ya can get sick of leftovers? After seal for every meal for three days, I asked if there was anyting else. Caribou stew! Yes please. No meat, just tallow. I cannot eat seal, except for Flipper Pie, to this day.

Nain, the most northern year round settlement after Joey Smallwood moved a bunch of Innu from further north to better supply them with "services". That was the first airstrip I ever surveyed and then designed with scale, pencil, paper and calculator. Brought it on budget, too. On Google Earth, take a look at Pikaluyak just to the west of the airstrip. I made friends with some locals and had a number of boat/fishing tours. Upon seeing Pikaluyak, I said "Lord fuck, buddy! Ya got some BIG beavers round here." That went around town like wildfire and the subsequent nickname was apt for an engineer.

Gee whiz... I could tell tales about Nain alone long enough ta bore the life outta ya. Like the time we nearly died four times in one fishin trip on accounta dumbass NEVER cleaned out his gas tank. And, the time I got caught out on a boulder field and the eight foot dorsal fin had me a tad worried. I swam the last 15 feet or so and the water was so cold, I pissed myself. It WAS the cold water. I was NOT scared... although I had a heightened sense of awareness. I did sling the Artic Char and cod over my shoulder and came ashore with them. When I presented Cooky with my catch, I learned the difference between Cod and Rock Cod. Cod are eaten. Rock Cod will get you repeatedly struck with a broom whist the beater beats the beatee while yelling, "Git dem fuckin tings outn me kitchen ya FUCKIN MAINLANDER BASTARD!" Everyone enjoyed the Char... except me. I knew better. The dogs devoured the Rock Cod.

Okay... I'll shut up now. Bon voyagies, Rap. You are gonna have a great cruise.

LH, I got some spirituality stuff for ya ta chew over:

"I can only condone marriage because it supplies more virgins."
                         --St. Jerome

"It is great wisdom to know how to be silent and to look at neither the remarks, nor the deeds, nor the lives of others."
                                     --St. John of the Cross

"Give me chastity and continence, but not yet."
                                    --Saint Augustine

"What seems to me white, I will believe black if the hierarchical Church so defines."
                              ― St. Ignatius of Loyola

"Laugh and grow strong."
       ― St. Ignatius of Loyola

"Argument is conclusive... but... it does not remove doubt, so that the mind may rest in the sure knowledge of the truth, unless it finds it by the method of experiment. For if any man who never saw fire proved by satisfactory arguments that fire burns. his hearer's mind would never be satisfied, nor would he avoid the fire until he put his hand in it that he might learn by experiment what argument taught."
                               --Roger ("I'm not Francis!") Bacon

Some of those comments are pretty good. Can't say I agree in the least with St Jerome's comments on marriage, however. ;-) Nor do I agree with the "black and white" statement from Ignatius. That's just absolutely silly.

For a good grasp of practical and common sense spirituality, I recommend:

"The Tao of Pooh" - Benjamin Hoff

"The Te of Piglet" - Benjamin Hoff

"A Return to Love" - Marianne Williamson

"Beyond the Cascade" - Amos H. Jessup

"Joan of Arc" - Mark Twain

"Saint Joan" - George Bernard Shaw

"The Tao of Health, Sex, and Longevity" (can't recall the author)

As well as most of what is attributed to Jesus' direct teachings in the Bible...

"The Prophet" - Khalil Gibhran

Any buddhist texts.

Spiritual writings by a number of Indian masters in the Vedic tradition, such as Sri Aurobindo, for example.

"The Power of Now" - Eckhart Tolle

And any number of other great books along the same general line.

Anything that increases the sense of freedom and love while also increasing the sense of a powerful moral responsibility toward self, others, and life in general can definitely be considered spiritual.

My catch on Whale Day in Nain, Labrador.

The pack.

Got a cool story ... hmmm... got a few cool stories about the dogs. Ya know they WILL eat children if they get loose? The day the siren went off when a large beta male broke free, I learned a great deal about sled dogs. Worst for me was, ya can walk right through a tethered bunch and they won't get up but if ya fall down and yer not the owner, yer dog meat. Up until then, I had been taking pics and feeding them. Nice ta know, eh?

Rap, if they say they are gonna take you to Dog Island for a walking tour, stay aboard. There is only one thing to eat on Dog Island. It's the Innu way of ensuring a strong breed. Ruthless? Yes. Effective bredding/culling? Most definitely. Truely terrifying if you think about it too much? Fer sure.

I can traverse dog yards -- I once walked down the Champs Elysee AND through the streets of Toulouse without ONCE stepping in it! Of course, I once also ground-guided a truck out of a mine field.

LH, I have most of the books from the Jesus Seminar, including the Gospel of the Magdalen. Long ago I read Lao Tzu, the Hindu texts, the writings of The Buddha, and I "studied" Zen in Korea. I am the proud(?) possessor of enough semester hours in Theology to qualify as a minister, more in fact than the Catholic pastor here (he has the excuse that he's both a National Guard chaplain and that he's nicely nuts). And yes, before you ask, I have also delved into the religions of the "First Nations" and the Arctic Peoples. I am fairly well grounded in Norse, Roman, Celtic, and Greek religions ("One man's myth is anothers religions"), and have done more than skim Wicca (had a Wiccan friend once; we'd discuss it over beer). For the last few years I've been involved in a personal study of the effect of war and violence on the human psyche and "soul." I own a copy of the works of St. John of the Cross and the "Necronomicon" (which is fiction). "The Book of Mormon", "Doctrines and Covenants," and "The Pearl of Great Price" are not unknown to me; so are the works of philosphers from Socrates to Sartre. Really. This is all true.

Good for you, Rap. I applaud your choice in reading material most highly.

I've not read the Gospel of the Magdalen, but I'd sure like to. I'll look around for it. I have read some material which strongly suggests that Mary Magdalen was no prostitute, and in fact was Jesus' perfectly legal and legitimate wife, accompanying him on his travels...and has not been depicted as such in the existing Gospels for various male-oriented political reasons of the time. This, of course, meets with an outraged reaction in a lot of Christian quarters (though not all), but it seems likelier to me than not, all things considered.

However, I doubt we'll ever know for sure. Too much time has elapsed. We can only wonder.

There is a news report from Jerusalem that archivists in Nazareth have turned up a marriage license for "Yeshua, Son of Yusef and Mariam, brother of James, a carpenter by trade and now a wandering rabbi, and Mary of Magdala, daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. David bar David, a single woman residing with her sister, Martha and brother Lazarus."

Problem is, it's a photocopy and the typewriter needed a new ribbon so the print isn't very clear.

Read the long version of The Golden Bough, in the first book, and see how Diana of Nemi (said golden bough is in her temple bower or garden) was worshiped until Jesus and Mary came along, then Diana was reviled as a whore to elevate the Mary character in her place. Fascinating reading. Diana has a lot more substance and was around for a very long time before she was deposed.
