Apparently, I did not make my admonition clear. I shall have to consult and appeal to the GO re your punishments. Anyone got his/her/it's eaddy?

BTW, the beef stew I cooked today is gonna be even better after sitting in the fridge overnight.

...gross non-linearities...

That's a perfect description of my thought processes! Gross and non-linear.

Because of the resistance, there is also a limit to the power that any given inductor can handle. In the case of any inductor with a magnetic core, a further (and usually overriding) limitation is the maximum magnetic flux density supported by the magnetic material before it saturates. Once saturated, any increase in current causes no additional magnetic field (since the core cannot support any more magnetism), and the inductance falls. This causes gross non-linearities, which can have severe repercussions in some circuits (such as a switchmode power supply).

Does it strike anyone how oddly these material hijinks sometimes seem to parallel the weaving and whoofing of the human heart? It does me.

MOAB is too big to check to see who was the Galactic Overlord - the mod has to load the entire thing in order to see the IP addresses. It's possible, but not likely that any of them are that crazy.

The proposition "You will have too looke elswhere" is not the same as the proposition "I did not make that post". This is a classic example of Rapp's skitterish technique whereby everything just glances off in a different direction. He is a master skitterer.
I recognize the skill because I am a dab hand at it my own self when the occasion arises.

Normal human communication is by and large so riddled with flaws that it is very easy to sound sincere while not actually engaging in straight communication. However, this is a dark art, and must only be used in the rare situation where it will actually serve the side of the Good. Otherwise, one risks deep corrosion of the Soul. Also, your dick falls off.

I notice however thast Rapp has skirted the question with his usual adroit misdirection.

Why, thank you! I've worked on that skill set for years and years and it's nice to have it recognized.

As for the posting, no, you'll have to look elsewhere.

But would Rap stoop so low as to attempt to deceive others by deliberately using Canadian spelling? Is he capable of such deviousness and misdirection?

Hmmmmm.

Implication is all well and good, but I did not do it. I notice however thast Rapp has skirted the question with his usual adroit misdirection.

Amos, you maleficent, chuckle-headed turtle-fucker, I did NOT post as the Galactic Overland in ANY capacity...not in my own capacity nor while being anyone else either. And Chongo never posts as anyone but Chongo.

I don't know who did the Galactic Overlord post, but you seem to be implying that you ARE the Galactic Overlord. If so, sir, do your worst! I dare you. I wave my peripheral extremities tauntingly in your general direction.

Personally, I think the Galactic Overlord looks something like Ming the Merciless, only meaner.

No, see, it wasn't LH because he wasn't being LH at the time he wrote it. To quote the immortal Wm Jefferson Clinton, it all depends on what your definition of "is" is.
He was being Chongo Chimp when he posted as the Galactic Overlord, disregarding the risk of offending me....the Real Thing.

It wasn't you? Well, it wasn't me either. Perhaps Rapparee or Amos is playing subtle tricks and pretending to be a Canadian by spelling "behaviour" the way it's supposed to be spelled, thus impersonating you or me.

Or maybe it really was the Galactic Overlord!

Ah-HAH! You're right. He spelled it as someone would if he was from either the UK or Canada or possibly Australia...basically any English-speaking country except the USA, where they don't really know how to spell. ;-)

You're assuming that I made that Galactic Overlord post, aren't you?

Well, I didn't. And you have my word on that. It was someone else who made that post, not me. I'm betting it was either gnu...or the genuine article himself, the Galactic Overlord. Galactic Overlords DO know how to spell English properly. They spell it like Canadians do...and they pronounce the letter "Z" as "zed".

Why should he hide? All he's done is express his enthusiasm for the hypothetical idea of your destruction by a supreme overlord. ;-) How does this contravene Galactic Ordinances? Far from hiding, Shane makes a daily spectacle of himself on the streets of Blind River, bumming smokes and accosting young women and generally being very, very visible. He can easily be found at any time.

He has no idea about that. He probably thinks that the Galactic Overlord is somewhat similar to a WWF wrestling star like Hulk Hogan or whoever else is the headliner these days (I haven't been keeping up on that). You know...fancy jumpsuit, big muscles, good at busting heads.

Shane has friends in outer space, Artixes and the rest of the crew, and they have taken him on a couple of space jaunts and been quite nice to him. He probably figures that this gives him an "in" with the Galactic Overlord. Whether this is naive on his part, I can't say, but I suspect it might be.

That's hard to say, Stilly.

But Shane simple reacts to things the way Shane would. He regards Amos and Rapparee the way most people would regard pestilential vermin of the most undesirable and intolerable sort. He is naturally hoping that the Galactic Overlord will follow through on his threat and "remove" them.

Rapparee has persisted in calling Shane "Shame"...and lately Amos has begun doing so as well. Can you see why this would irritate the boy from Blind River? It's as simple as 1, 2, 3. If Shane had a button he could push that would cause both Rapparee and Amos to vanish in a sudden puff of smoke and fire, he WOULD push it.

As it stands, he's hoping the Galactic Overlord will do it for him.

It's kept nice because it isn't used much. There are a few of us who use it of an evening, perusing various tomes and world-wide newspapers as we sip fine brandy or cognac. "Copper" Johnny keeps out the riff-raff who do come attempt to enter in their search for a copy of "Hustler" or "Miss Birch-All's School For Naughty Boys" -- a tap with his blackjack and kick downstairs with his calked boots usually prevents their return.

There has been much skepticism about the Legion Hovel here in Pocatello. Normally it is not allowed to be photographed, but by the especial and gracious permission of the Colonel-General, here are some photos. For security reasons the Hovel was all but empty when these were taken; there is a photo showing past members at a Gala Festival at the Hovel.

The lounge. The Grand Hall. Legionnaires of the past. The Grand Meeting Room. Beer being delivered.

That is because I am always and absolutely certain about uncertainty. There is so much to be uncertain about that we should have an Uncertainty Day, much like Thanksgiving, where we could all gather around the table for a meal of mystery meat, vegetables of unknown provenance and dessert of unknown origin with people to whom we may or may not be related or even acquainted.

Played all evening with friends at a very classy house in Cardiff, north of here, backed by pedal steel and all the amps you can eat. We bounced around, doing half-fragments and figuring out keys and chords, but we had some certain sweet moments when three voices came together to break open the universe. Music is endlessly amazing. Endlessly. It opens windows to jump through and suddenly, when it comes together, you are in an Alice-bubble of beauteous madcap harmonies, where the riffs are perfect trails into magic. When it happens, oxytocin flows and love conquers all. This makes it worth the scrabble needed to do it.

Ah, then we had our definitions flipped. Duration is the ground, and measuring parts of it is considered time.

The question is whether there such a thing as duration, or whether the apparent condition we call duration is merely a byproduct of viewing with the core consideration that the particles are persisting. This is a very Newtonian sort of assumption, but wildly popular in the "reality is real" crowd.

Time, in the sense I am using it, is measured duration. Does, for instance, duration exist in the heart of a black hole? Does time? Does space? Other than when dealing with Shame McBride can we really understand duration or time? If there is no way to measure duration (no natural cycles, etc.) does time exist? And if time doesn't exist, does space?

SInce you are flinging terms about, I suppose you are differentiating between time as a universal condition and time as expressed by a period of continuity of something.

I think the former is a crashing great lie, myself.

Enthalpy is a measure of the total energy of a thermodynamic system. It includes the internal energy, which is the energy required to create a system, and the amount of energy required to make room for it by displacing its environment and establishing its volume and pressure.

Greek word enthalpos (ἔνθαλπος), which means to put heat into. It
(Wikipedia)

Duration is a theory of time and consciousness posited by the French philosopher Henri Bergson. Bergson sought to improve upon inadequacies he perceived in the philosophy of Herbert Spencer, due, he believed, to Spencer's lack of comprehension of mechanics, which led Bergson to the conclusion that time eluded mathematics and science.[1] Bergson became aware that the moment one attempted to measure a moment, it would be gone: one measures an immobile, complete line, whereas time is mobile and incomplete. For the individual, time may speed up or slow down, whereas, for science, it would remain the same. Hence Bergson decided to explore the inner life of man, which is a kind of duration, neither a unity nor a quantitative multiplicity.[1] Duration is ineffable and can only be shown indirectly through images that can never reveal a complete picture. It can only be grasped through a simple intuition of the imagination.[2] (Ibid)

I don't think so, Rapp. It looks more like molecular theory stretched to include NEwtonian laws of motion, nothing more. Calling it enthalpy is a Great Furbelow but not substantively different.

To give it away would be like a drunk givin' away his last half a bottle of cheap wine. LH is not the kinda guy who would ask someone to do that.

You want me to give you a piece of my mind? Whatever would you do with it? But, if it will make you happy and better adjusted...here goes:

The total enthalpy, H, of a system cannot be measured directly. Thus, change in enthalpy, ΔH, is a more useful quantity than its absolute value. The change ΔH is positive in endothermic reactions, and negative in heat-releasing exothermic processes. ΔH of a system is equal to the sum of non-mechanical work done on it and the heat supplied to it. So is this a reflection of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle in thermodynamics?

Well, that was exciting, wasn't it?
