Yikes. That must have been a very unnerving experience you had there, Amos. Let's hope it was just one of those weird anomalies that occurs once and is not seen again...like the time one of Chongo's Baboon buddies spontaneously combusted at Duffy's Bar just after consuming 16 shots of vodka on a bet. All that was left behind was his pork pie hat and a copy of the racing form. The hat is on permanent display there now (over the bar), in memoriam.

Fear has no place in my personal emotional pantheon, good Hawkster.

Last night I nearly lost it altogether for a moment though, and although I do not recall any fear it would have been a perfect opportunity for some.

I had gotten up after a couple of hours of deep sleep to drain the old bladder, and just as I finished, a momentary dizzy spell occurred and the next thing I knew I was flat on the floor with no power over my body, splat!! As though all the puppet's strings had been cut at once. Bam. I got up and staggered to bed and fell down again. After a few moments, I decided to drain the old bladder again, so I got up and went back to the bathroom and collapsed again, bam, like a lathered old sack. So the good wyffe made me dress myself and hustled me to a nice ER near here on the bluffs over the Pacific, where they tubed and measured and electro-cardiogram'd me and stuck my head in a whirling trashbin CAT scan machine. All systems normal. All stats green, everything checked out.

Final analysis was a random event known as micturition syncop--a faint that occurs when peeing interferes with the vagus nerve and knocks out the blood supply to the brain.

So I am fine, but I am here to tell you it was a most unnerving experience.

The doc called it micturation syncop, and ever the refined editor of technical detail I made a mental note it should be prounounced with an "i" not an "a". But I was polite enough not to mention it to him until I had double cvhecked it. Besides, he held all the cards and owned the pretty nurses, and I was wearing a stupid open-backed nightie, so I kept my mouth shut.

A

Has anyone seen Gluon lately? I'll have her zip around the planet delivering lasagna to each of you once it's out of the oven. The rest is going to work for our annual holiday party.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, Rap!

And Amos...in reference to your post of 08 Dec 11 - 05:12 PM

I note that, like Chongo, you are absolutely unafraid to defend an inherently indefensible position, and to employ the famous Chongo Chimp D.E.D. approach: Defend - Evade - Deny

This denotes grit and courage on your part, and has no doubt seen you through many tough spots in life.

By golly, you may have more in common with my hairy, short-legged, banana-loving friend than I had hitherto suspected.

I hope that does not include the kindness of lending us your spirited and humorous blarney here in Mom's place, Rapparree.

Aw, Mike. Next time just pick up your friend and carefully carry him to his car. Then you're in control of the movement.

ENT referral 2009.07.13. Saw the doc in 2010.06. Got my operation on 2011.06.02. Gotta go back as it wasn't 100% successful but I gotta wait at least until now or three months more.

Nerve doc referral 2010.04.05. Still waiting.

Free Canuck health care. Yes. We DO have free health care here... if you are bleeding. If you are not bleeding or unconcious, yer good to go.

I'm gonna vent, all right.

This morning I was at the Elks Lodge for coffee. The last people out were myself and Tim. Tim's in his 80s and recently had hip replacements -- and he's got balance problems. He got outside the building fine, but as we were walking toward his car (something told me to stick with him) he fell. I tried to catch him or at least break his fall, which I succeeded in doing. I guided him to his car and swore that he'd be using the walker he had in the backseat from here on out.

I just returned from the orthopod's office. Tomorrow at 0615 I have an MRI scheduled to see if the distal bicep ligament in my right arm has been torn away, and if so I will have surgery on the 14th.

I must admit that I have been experiencing quite a bit of pain....

Ah, you jackanapes, hold your tongue!! The voracious intellect of our street-raised friend, yon Shaking Will Geronimo Smith, is the culprit, for having soaked up so much Bard he became overburdened and found himself thrown over-Bard, unable to recall the time and place of his wits' foddering. This is no grounds for your doddering outrage, which is itself fueled only by your own sense of deep guilt in the past.

I am glad, however, that young Shakin' Willie has given you an opportunity to vent your spleen and air your bilious resentments. I am sure you will be the better for it.

Last time I was in Calgary, to stay with my aunt and uncle, I mailed a box home to myself. It seemed odd to go into a drug store to mail a box, but what the heck. As I counted through that funny looking change and bills to pay, we got talking about the U.S. quarters for the states. Turned out he was collecting them, so I pulled out my U.S. coin purse and we looked through for those he didn't have. I think he bought five or six from me (we did that at par, much easier and no great benefit or loss at the time.) Rap and Gnu, you should have gone to the mall in Calgary to do your mailing, that guy would have been very helpful because he'll still have warm memories of buying my U.S. quarters.

And now the pot calls the kettle black! Plagiarizing from Shakespeare, poem III of the "Passionate Pilgrim!" For shame! Go to, thou plagiarist! Speak to me no more of stolen verse, for you are found to be a knave, a cut-purse of poesy, a jack-a-napes, a pick-pocket of the intellect of your betters! It is from this that an image emerges: a thief of the wit of his betters, and (dare it be said?) a follower of Perry, Gingerich, and Bachmann!

Did not the heavenly rhetoric of thine eye,
'Gainst whom the world could not hold argument,
Persuade my heart to this false perjury?
Vows for thee broke deserve not punishment.
A woman I forswore; but I will prove,
Thou being a goddess, I forswore not thee:
My vow was earthly, thou a heavenly love;
Thy grace being gain'd cures all disgrace in me.
My vow was breath, and breath a vapour is;
Then, thou fair sun, that on this earth doth shine,
Exhale this vapour vow; in thee it is:
If broken, then it is no fault of mine.
If by me broke, what fool is not so wise
To break an oath, to win a paradise?

Amos, you want to "here it now"? Don't you mean that you want it "here and now"? I can arrange for it be be "here" "now" but to do so will put a kink in the space/time/matter/energy continuum/matrix which might well cause you to softly and silently vanish away. I'm certain you don't want that.

gnu, I got pissed off with the US Postal "Service" and the Canadian one. It is not wise to piss me off because then I will Do Certain Things, like violently deconstruct post offices or something. Now, if I find out what happened to/who took the last stuff I mailed I shall probably do something creative to the culprit, like chase him/her around the tree his/her guts are nailed to. As for GOOD beer, I suggest something like Moose Drool, only you probably can't get that where you are, so consider it a Christmas present of whatever beer you CAN get.

Amos, I KNOW you could have come up with something truly heroic for the 43,000th post, something positively Homeric in its brilliance, its sagacity, and its verbal sophistication, not to mention its wit.

But you didn't. You were not there at the crucial moment. I am sure that I join many in mourning the fact that you missed that brief window of opportunity. I blame Shane. He ruined it by asking the inane question "Are we there yet?" I wasn't expecting him to do that, but he's an unruly young lad with no sense of timing and very few (if any) social graces. We cross posted. I was looking at photos of Winona Ryder in between waiting for the Mudcat page to reload on my balky computer, so when I posted my brief "thank you" to Mr Shatner, I was expecting that to be the 42,999th post, not the 43,000th post!

And it was my firm intention that you, sir, should have the honor of entering some incredible piece of poetry on the 43,000th post, following my thank you note to Mr Shatner for imparting his blessings on our thread.

It's tragic that it didn't work out that way. Disturbing. Discomforting. Upsetting. A less than ideal result.

But I can draw comfort from the fact that in about 1,000 posts from now you WILL be there to wow us all with an inconceivably clever and apt piece of writing for the 44,000th post of the MOABS.

Wait for it, folks!

My...friend...a man known as Little Hawk on this web forum, has informed me that my special blessings are needed to ferry this...conversation...over the threshold of 43,000 posts. We...or rather you...are now on that threshold with only 3 posts to go. Or two after this one...I think.

At any rate, he has been pestering me for some time about it. Okay. I am a fairly generous man. Some people would dispute that, but they are...prejudiced. They have a jaundiced view of things, driven, I suspect, by their own disappointments, and I'm not responsible for those, am I.

I am a generous man. It is therefore in that spirit of generosity that I now willingly give my blessing to this thread as it is about to pass the boundary of 43,000 posts, and I say...Live Long and...

Hell, no. I can't say that. No way, people. Here's what I really have to say about it.

For God's sake! Get a life! Here you are frittering away your days typing forgettable dreck on a pointless thread on an obscure internet forum that most people in Hollywood have never even heard of. Get real. I can't believe you people are still doing this.

This is William Shatner, signing off. God bless.

I have just returned from The Queen's Mail outlet (we don't have post offices any more up here on accounta private corporations now make money offin a the Queen's Mail and pay kickbacks to the silly servants that let the contracts so they can pay a cut to the politicians that arrange for them to do so) nearby after providing photo ID and signing the fancy little electronic screen rigginfriggin to receive a registered letter from the King of Idaho.

Thank you much, Good King, for the get well card. I will reserve thanks for the funny looking note in the card until my financial institution verifies it's authenticity.

And, BTW... ya sure know how to make a guy feel bad. If I'da known it was gonna cost you that much just to send me the shipping costs for the book, I'da said don't bother. I figgered ya'd just hafta put a money order in an envelope and post it.

Good people... not only was the postage $26.96 but there is a note, mentioned above, that looks rather odd. I recognize the gentleman's image on the note as U.S. Grant and written on this note is that is is legal tender valued at $50.00. Let it never be said that Rap don't know how to make a guy feel bad. The postage what about what my postage was and the $50 is over and above that.

All hail The King.

Amos, you misunderstand Chongo's good intentions. His actions are entirely dependent upon Shaking Willie's actions, you see. If Mr Willie is merely intent on paying me a pleasant social call, then Chongo will be happy to sit down with him, offer him a drink and a cigar, and discuss fine literature like the Raymond Chandler novels and Sam Spade. If, on the other hand, Shaking Willie proves to have some harmful intentions towards mois, then Chongo will rip his head off, stuff it down his throat sideways, and leave his bullet-riddled body tied upsidedown to a nearby lamp post as a warning to the unwise.

This seems like a reasonable enough approach to me, it's clear and simple, easy to understand, and it leaves Shaking Willie entirely in charge of whether he lives or dies, dependent strictly on his own actions.

Rejecting everyone's existence
And further (just to piss us off)
Insisting, with bizarre persistence,

samizdat: a key form of dissident activity across the Soviet bloc in which individuals reproduced censored publications by hand and passed the documents from reader to reader. This grassroots practice to evade officially imposed censorship was fraught with danger as harsh punishments were meted out to people caught possessing or copying censored materials.
