Got a new joke here that needs a good punchline:

What is the difference between a pimp and a pump?

Max just took down the bookmarks so you can only get here via search. I'll leave well-enough alone. :) MOM's a persistent old broad.

MOM is in my tracer so I'm testing by adding this post. My theory is that it will stick but the thread won't appear because there is no BS section right now. I suppose we can keep writing as long as we want, we just have to know to come look at the thread in our personal list to see if anyone else has written.

The glass does not fall forever, silly. It pumps up and pumps down depending on barometric pressure. Mariners use this indication of pressure to anticipate wind and weather, which as you may know is closely tied to changes in pressure of air masses due to their differing temperatures. These differences are attributable to planetary motion, differing thermal index values of various surfaces such as sea, land, pavement and so on, and air movements caused by geophysical configurations. In turn, these temperature differences cause air to move up, down and sideways in large and complex patterns.

Louis MacNeice, however, did not know all this, one suspects. Otherwise he never would have said the glass will fall forever.

Our temps ranged from a low in the middle of February of -14 K. to 115 C. in August. It was a rugged year, but us folks out here can take it!

Our range of temperatures this year went from a low in January (or thereabouts) of 9o to 112o in August. Good thing it wasn't all in one day.

...The glass is falling day by day
The glass will fall forever
And if you break the bloody glass
You won't hold up the weather.

I think this is important!

>b>Full wave effects on the lower hybrid wave spectrum and driven current profile in tokamak plasmas

A numerical modeling of current profile modification by lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) using a fullwave/Fokker-Planck simulation code is presented. A MHD stable LHCD discharge on Alcator C-Mod was analyzed, and the current profile from full wave simulations was found to show better agreement with the experiment than a ray-tracing code. Comparison of full wave and ray-tracing simulation shows that, although ray-tracing can reproduce the stochastic wave spectrum broadening, the full wave calculation predicts even wider spectrum broadening, and the wave spectrum fills all of the kinematically allowed domain. This is the first demonstration of LHCD current profile modeling using a full wave simulation code in a multi-pass absorption regime, showing the clear impact of full wave effects on the LHCD driven current profile.

Okay, penitential time is over. My "discipline" is put back in the closet where I keep all of my scourges and whips.

A follower of Goddard

Were agreed that superthermics
Was a spatial hot pertater.

The reached a Super-Nova
On a bicycle named Beta
And I'd tell you more about it
But they fused with all the data.

I quoted the previous poem wrongly! I abase myself, pouring sackcloth and ashes over my head. It should have read

Little Bo-Peep has lost her sheep
The radar has failed to find them.
They'll all face-to-face
Meet in parallel space
Preceeding their leaders behind them.

The shame! The shame! Oh, the horror! I was actually in error!!

I will throw myself off of a bridge!

Or something....

It's perfectly okay in multi-dimensional topology, Amos.

Little Bo-Peep has lost her sheep
The radar has failed to find them.
Leave them alone and they'll come home
Preceeding their leaders behind them.

With Shane, though, it isn't applied mathematics--it's indolence coupled with pathological larceny.

Shane has been trying that old gambit of taking (approximately) half of a $20 bill to the store or the bank, taking (approximately) the other half of the same bill to another place, and thus turning it into $40. Kind of like what the bankers themselves do, only he doesn't get away with it for some reason...and if he did, it would be on a much, much smaller scale.

VERY good, Amos! You get one-half of a gold star. You have to figure out the other half to get the other half (which is bigger).

Amylopectin is a polysaccharide with a varying structure; It is composed of linearly linked alpha 1,4 linked glucose units (coiled into tubular sections) with occasional alpha 1-6 glycosidic bonds which provide branching points. Each amylopectin molecule may contain 100,000-200,000 glucose units, and each branch is about 20 or 30 glucose units in length, so that these molecules are bushy and nearly spherical in shape.

The many exposed ends can have more glucose units added to them by enzyme action for storage purposes or removed from them for use in respiration.

Amylopectin is one fraction of starch (typicaly 80-90%), the other fraction being amylose (10-20%). Glycogen ("animal starch"), found in the liver and muscles, is effectively similar in structure to amylopectin, but it has shorter branches: 8-12 glucose units.

Gnu, you forget that you have to factor in the SQRT of -1, due tot he fact that the Nauga is imaginary. This produces two roots, a positive one and a negative one.

Amos... precisely my point that the irregular number cannot be even which hoops precisely matched to the even number of sides is false no matter what truth table is attempted to be invoked in proof.

I got an A+ in basic uni philosophy and me engineering math classes but it don't take that to figger odd ain't even. Or, perhaps I simply am odd at even trying to grasp yer postualte?

Minds me of the time me and cousin Jim and me buddy were goin huntin deer... wee hours... on our way in the truck... me an Jim got into a discussion about tau shear on composite carbon fibre aircraft skins and the use of electromagnetic charges to form radar deflection (Jim is one of the foremost engineers in this area in the world... his work has been on the TV... re Iraq, etc). We were in quite the discussion when me buddy piped up and said sommat like, "I am deaf in my right ear so all this shit is going in one ear and getting stuck so let's talk about pussy eh?" Maybe that doesn't apply herein... maybe it does?

You got a cat?

In geometry, the rhombic triacontahedron is a convex polyhedron with 30 rhombic faces. It is an Archimedean dual solid, or a Catalan solid. It is the polyhedral dual of the icosidodecahedron, and it is a zonohedron.

The North AMerican nauga produces a fine-surfaced hide of exactly the proportions--due primarily to its large and unusually-formed chest cavity and irregular number of legs--needed to precisely cover a rhombic tricontahedron whose central radius is the length from the nauga's left eye to the central apex of its upper ventricle.

This is the sort of natural phenomenon that gives people pause and starts them pondering Intelligent Design.

Twin primes are pairs of primes which differ by two. The first twin primes are {3,5}, {5,7}, {11,13} and {17,19}. It has been conjectured (but never proven) that there are infinitely many twin primes. If the probability of a random integer n and the integer n+2 being prime were statistically independent events, then it would follow from the prime number theorem that there are about n/(log n)2 twin primes less than or equal to n.

Please prove or disprove this conjecture. Thank you.
