Hey, this Saturday I'll be dropping in there as well! The SCA will be doin' their things at the Library! Arts, crafts, sword fights, and men in tights. Maybe we can have beer or something.

I'm so confused! Can anyone give me a synopsis of the last week? On second thought, never mind, it would probably confuse me further.

This weekend I'm to be in 1560 0r so, the rest of the summer weekends I'll be spending in 1585. So I have a right to be confused. maybe. what's my name again?

.....from someone else's mother.

Not ours, though. She's true blue.

zzzzzzz - hnnnmmphfrf huh huh - oh - er g'day mate.
Yer just woke up the Aussies.
Wot a fine way to describe yer mother. Yeah.

True Blue - displays the Aussie ideals of a fair go for all, mateship, having a go, and solving problems. Yep, that's Mother all right.

*sings*

Hey True Blue, don't say you've gone
Say you've knocked off for a smoko
And you'll be back later on
Hey True Blue, Hey True Blue

Give it to me straight
Face to face
Are you really disappearing,
Just another dying race,
Hey True Blue.

True Blue, is it me and you?
Is it Mum and Dad, is it a cockatoo?
Is it standing by your mate
When he's in a fight?
Or just Vegemite
True Blue, I'm asking you...

Hey True Blue, can you bear the load?
Will you tie it up with wire,
Just to keep the show on the road?
Hey True Blue, Hey True Blue, now be Fair Dinkum

Is your heart still there?
If they sell us out like sponge cake
Do you really care?
Hey True Blue.

True Blue, is it me and you?
Is it Mum and Dad, is it a cockatoo?
Is it standing by your mate
When she's in a fight?
Or just Vegemite
True Blue, I'm asking you...

True Blue, is it me and you?
Is it Mum and Dad, is it a cockatoo?
Is it standing by your mate
When he's in a fight?
Or just Vegemite
True Blue ... True Blue.

A gem by John Williamson of course.

That was about the point where Gluon had enough of his father's endless boson and lepton the first orbital transition out of town; he drew on his inner resources of strange attraction and strong force to find his way to the MOAB where he has been happily charming all and sundry ever since.

G-spot, I am sorry to hear of your neglected condition, but with a name like yours, I am sure you can drum up some testosteronic vibes somewhere around the Cat -- we seem to have far too much of the stuff from time to time. It comes in waves. Sometimes it gets so bad all the librarians leave town to go shoot at each other with black powder rifles or slice each other up with sabers, before returning to their more peaceable haunts. Other times, we're all a bunch of wusses.

Well, it's only natural that Gluon should have an affinity for G-Spot's leg. After all, "G...Spot" was Gluon's father's name. Well, his real name was just "Spot", but he was a very ill-behaved mutt and he came to be called "Goddammed Stupid Fucking Shit-for-Brains Spot" more often than not. But, since "Goddammed Stupid Fucking Shit-for-Brains Spot" takes too long to type out, he came to be known as "G...Spot".

Gluon's mother, on the other hand, was named "Fupp Duck" which is a pretty good description of her mental condition when she agreed to consort with a mongrel like G...Spot. Woke up in the morning, looked at the empty Cuervo bottle, looked at G...Spot and said, "Shit!"

Surely you didn't think the circumstances leading to the birthing of a duck-dog would be anything but sordid, did you?

Aw shucks, G-Spot, being either ignored or answered with cryptic messages that mean absolutely nothing is par for the course around here. Happens all the time. Think of the cryptic messages as something akin to Zen koans. They may not make a lot of sense, but they point the way toward something dimly glimpsed yet forever slightly out of our reach. It's like... No! Wait a minute! It's coming into focus now. I can almost see it clearly now! It's... Gluon! Get off of G-Spot's leg, dammit!

Aw, gee. A darned Skinnerian!!

G-spot, I never assumed you had any gender one way, or the other. You're not gonna start whining about not being warmly embraced, now, are ya? Welcome to the MOAB, young lady.

See, the thing is, this sandbox is for those who participate there in. It is meant to offer some respite for those who come here freely and in goodwill. Because, hell, if we wanted to be snipped at, we coulda stayed on the political threads or almost any other, and we like the local style better. For one thing, it is kinda non-judgemental, if you see what I mean. We enjoy each other without having to evaluate whether others here, or we ourselves, measure up to some condescending standard of the sort usually emanating from someone else's mother.

Not ours, though. She's true blue.

Dear Gee,

If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand.

In May, when sea-winds pierced our solitudes,
I found the fresh Rhodora in the woods,
Spreading its leafless blooms in a damp nook,
To please the desert and the sluggish brook.
The purple petals, fallen in the pool,
Made the black water with their beauty gay;
Here might the red-bird come his plumes to cool,
And court the flower that cheapens his array.
Rhodora! if the sages ask thee why
This charm is wasted on the earth and sky,
Tell them, dear, that if eyes were made for seeing,
Then Beauty is its own excuse for being:
Why thou wert there, O rival of the rose!
I never thought to ask, I never knew:
But, in my simple ignorance, suppose
The self-same Power that brought me there brought you.

Remember, Gee, what happens to the mouse "hypnotized" by the snake.

it has been suggested that I am male. You do not know that, but you assumed that. I do not know if some of you are male/female due to your Mudcat names, as you do not concerning me due to mine.

It is of no matter.

This thread fascinates me, which is why I return. It certainly is not because of your opened arms. The characters that you have pretended to be are interesting. Let me correct that. The fact that you create and pretend to be other characters interests me. Such creations as "freds" which is not humorous, nor, according to my research of this thread, has ever been, continue to return. And the rest of you respond and play along with the absurdity of it.

I think Doctors of many different fields could write many a worthwhile book on the subject of the people who make up MOAB. There are some obviously some very creative, though sick, minds at work here.

I wonder at those who have fallen away. Do you consider them "apostates"? There were many regulars in the first thousand or so posts that are no longer seen in your "Hollowed Halls". Where are they? Why did they leave. Why did you remain?

Why does this masturbatory thread continue?

Now, now, let's not bad mouth freds. We don't KNOW that they consume their mates. All we know is that they want their genetic material and that the mates aren't around afterwards. Perhaps they take a toenail or a lock of hair and then send them off on a long vacation in the Cayman Islands or something.

I have never heard of them harming a Labrador Retriever, for instance.

I heard from Bee-Dubya-Ell--as it happens, the freds tried his place, but all they managed to do was down his phone line.

Freds seem unable to distinguish between live and transmitted voice. When viewing the "is it live, or is it Memorex?" advertisement from broadcast signals captured in deep space they were clueless to figure out the difference. That's why they zapped his phone line after somehow picking up a call to the local Chinese take-out joint. It may have been too close for comfort.

Stay safe, BWL, until they get outta your woods.

There are a few squids* spare over in the tavern. I'm sure we can spare one to feed the freds the best worst that can happen is they kill each other off.

No, I have not yet learned the Games Mudcatters (or MOABites) Play. First, I will thank you for the helpful link. I'll will admit that your trick was quite amusing, and, Oooh, I see, you do scrolling text also! Can you pull a rabbit out of your pants? Make a turtle disappear? And let's not forget to imply that the same newbie is really someone else, but that's old hat, someone else beat you to that one on another thread!

I was attacked by a wild haggis over the weekend. I barely escaped with my life! Fortunately, I was hiking along with Alex MacCushla (THE MacCushla, hereditary and titular head of the Idaho Sept) and he whipped out a set of pipes and a bottle of Drambuie faster'n you can say "Cha d'fhag claidheamh Fhinn riamh fuigheall beuma." He threw the Drambuie at the haggis, which snagged it with a pseudopod and emptied into its mouth full of jagged, yellow teeth (haggis have yellow teeth from chewing tobacco). As the haggis was downing the drink, Alex began piping "Johnny Cope." The haggis dropped me at the third note and came to a rigid attention, just as if it were in some Highland Regiment. I, of course, ran like hell; Alex segued into a lullabye and after the haggis was snoring beat feet outa there.

well, y'know - there is a grain off truth in even the silliest of stories - even ones told to tourists.

truth is , it's the sage growing along the Stilly River that gives the haggi that graze there their superior flavour.

I always though that when that bunch of independance minded Freds, after outwitting Gluon the guard dog, who got distracted whilst trying to decide if his tail existed, so he could chase it, stole the stone from under the throne of MOAB, and hid it behind that waterfall on the Stilly River, Rapiere recoved a fake and the real one was being held in waiting to crown Bonnie Prince Kandhu when he returns.

Or is that just what we tell the tourists, along with the superior flavour of the anticlockwise haggis and such like?

Fundamentals of Fish Spoilage??? Betcha that one took lots of Oscars.

My father served in the Pacific Theater.

All this time I've assumed that that name refered to the area of the Pacific where WW2 was fought. I have now seen the light and realize that what is being communicated was that my very own father was not in the Army in WW2, but was actually an usher in a movie house for fish which was located in the Pacific Ocean! And all the other "Theaters" are likewise places where fish watch flicks!

Why, you may ask, has this coverup been going on? Why for the last 60 or more years has the US Government hidden The Truth from the American people (and everyone else, for that matter)?

Simple: tippy top secret US Navy research back in the late 1920s and early 1930s proved conclusively that fish were smarter than people, and the US Government "created" WW2 as a gigantic coverup. The Government, in its wisdom, knew that people around the world would panic if The Truth was told. Instead, in cooperation with the Bavarian Illuminati and the Group of Seven and the Freemasons and the Bohemian Club and the IOOF and the Knights of Columbus (which organizations basically run the world today and always have), people worldwide were subjected to subtle sublimial programming during the movies "Going My Way," "The Song of Bernadette," "Gentle Comrade," "Gone With the Wind, "The Wizard of Oz," and "Steamboat Willie." This programming made everyone think that a war had been fought, when actually fish had quietly taken over the reins of power! Today, fish are in charge in every nation on the globe and are pushing their Agenda. PETA wants a ban on fishing; "Save The Whales" is triumphing; dolphins and porpoises are actually thought to be at least a little bit intelligent, "catch and release" is chanted like some sort of religious prayer -- and if this isn't proof enough, Fish and Game Departments across the globe have set up "limits" to the number of fish which can be caught!!!

Well, now that's all cleared up.
