Well, they got in there a little bass-ackward, because the bean recipe didn't load as fast as the 6400 post, but 6400 has now been dispatched with proper Mudcat procedure. There was some content leading up to it.

Oh, I'm dying to have some Indian (from India) food, but most of it is kind of difficult. I've found some recipes, though.

My mom and I have to laugh now. I don't know what it is--some kind of aphasia--but she reads a lot and can't pronounce words well. One time she talked about going to that tourist spot in Southern California, Venus Beach. (It's really venice.) She tends to say "prostrate" when she means "prostate". Well, now, she's learned to nudge me and say, "Is that right?" Used to be she'd get mad at me for correcting her. Isn't it interesting how relationships are? Oh, she still nags, but I don't let it get to me anymore. I either ignore it or tell her I've had enough ... very quietly and effectively, at least for awhile. :)

My eyes bleed with teriaki sauce that ferments from my pancake soul
salty, so salty that I wince with pleasure at the drop of a soy bean.
I ask the waiter in an Italian joint what he recommends and he said catch me at my break.
I stood out in the rain to try and catch a drizzle of parmesan that was left on my cheek, but my tongue wasn't long enough.
Recall is not my best attribute so I'll forget it and call it a tomorrow.

Nevermind, I just looked and I still have my navel.

My mother, the sweetest and most...understanding...woman I have ever known (excluding my wife, in case she reads this). Raised four kids pretty much alone. "Your mother EARNED every one of her gray hairs," says Everyone Who Knew.

Culinary stuff. We had a grape arbor, so every year she's make jelly and grape juice. One year both somehow fermented. We used 'em anyway, but ho-boy! did those peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches cause comment at school!

I'd like to talk with her again, but I'd need a ouija board. Dammit.

I keep reading the title of this thread

Hunting banned in England/Wales

as

Hunting Whales banned in England

and get a mental vision of the famous pods of English Hunting Whales tally-hooing across stone fences in pursuit of something or other.

Does this indicate that I have a problem?

Thank you.

of course you don't have a problem - Hunting Whales admittedly have gone out of fashion - but were bred for many generations for their ability to leap gracefully over obstructions. The name "Hunting Whale" is actually a misnomer - they were so-called by the similairity in function to "hunter" breeds of horses - but their primary use was in herding freshwater fur dolphins.

Oh, thank God!

Does the American Cetecean Club still have the annual Westminster Whale Show? I used to love seeing that on television -- all those cute whales.

If we had any Alaska MOABers or maybe Masato in Japan read this we'd have an account of how tasty those hunting mounts are once they've served their usful purpose and are turned into muktuk. Yuk.

About four minutes after I posted that at work I received a call from the county sheriff--from my home--to tell me that I had been burgled. Both computers, a tv, other small electronics. Amazing, a neighbor spotted this, stood on her brakes, backed into the neighbor's driveway and got the license #. My cats are okay, and I wasn't home, so no home invasion. That's good. But everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is on my computer, little of it behind even a password. So I may be shit out of luck and fighting a credit and id battle for a while.

Here is the boilerplate message I sent to friends just now:

    Hi-

This note has been composed on my old laptop computer and sent to a few folks to let you know that I'm offline for now. The house was burgled this morning (2-18-05) and both computers were stolen, along with all of the peripherals. This is a problem since a lot of financial information was in them, and because I work at home and many of my files are gone. Hopefully the computers will be returned, because a neighbor interrupted the burglary and got the license number and description of the car and three young burglars.

Of course, all of my email that was downloaded is gone along with all of my addresses, etc. (if they find my computer I will be so relieved--it even has my latest tax return in PDF form in the files). I'm sending this via web mail to addresses in that address book.

I am going to have to replace two computers, their peripherals, a tv, and a broken turntable pretty quickly, but it won't be instantaneous. Meanwhile, the kids are okay, the cats, who were in the house at the time are okay, and thankfully I wasn't at home, though I usually work at home on Fridays. The burglars evidently knocked on the door first (footprints in the grass from where they parked) and with no response, broke in. I wonder, if I'd answered the door, if they'd have pushed their way in. So, if it was going to happen, better to not be at home, and the cats hid like all cats should. (Beth, who called it in, said the sheriffs were kind of cute, because they kept telling each other "shut the door--the cats have to stay in!") At another juncture, the sheriff on duty took the crime scene guy through the house. They got to my bedroom and he told the CSI guy "they ransacked this one good." To which I had to reply, "actually, they didn't touch this one. It's my mess." Really funny--but here is where I keep my dismantled antiques, and I'd dumped a load of clean laundry on my bed this morning, planning to fold and put it away tonight.

The contractor who worked on my house when I moved in is coming over tomorrow to look at the door, and we'll see about not only repairing but reinforcing it.

I'll send this now, and in the next couple of days I'll try to check my mail once or twice a day, but don't expect to hear from me much for a week or so. I'm going to be on the phone a lot to make sure that I track the credit information and block any accounts that might have been compromised. I've already arranged to close my checking account and rearrange direct deposits and withdrawals.

It sure would be easier if I had my computer to do all of this work. . .

Amos has my email address, but I think he has one that is blocked. So ask Amos for my address if you want to write and don't mind that I won't see it right away--but instead of the stillyriversage part, use dwy5812syc@ Put that in front of the other part that Amos has and you can reach me.

This is the pits, by the way. Everything was backed up--but they got the backup drive. Little shits dropped and broke a perfectly good turntable, too. Cassette cases strewn on the floor like leaves on the strand (isn't that a poem or song?)

I'll recover, I'm mostly just pissed off at all of the lost papers (my book chapter, my thesis, several MS level papers) and photos and such.

SRS

Door repairs will happen this week. For now it is sealed shut by the friend who is contractor, and he will take care of the repairs. Between us, I'll have a reinforced door when this is over.

As horrible as it is to lose years worth of work, I can patch some of it together from disks and CDs. And those new computers--they are a joy to look at! I started a thread above the line to do with starting a new computer system from scratch and had some good information offered. Time usage is different this weekend. Though I'm online a little now, mostly I've been around doing non-computer stuff. I feel a bit naked without my regular computer activities.

Thanks, all for your good wishes. My neighbor across the street is understandably alarmed--it could have been any of our houses. But as he was saying that "I'd shoot them, then you'd have to bail me out," I was thinking that it would be a worse penalty for them if I just talked at them for a while. :) My kids can tell you about when I get on a roll. By the time I finish, I'd have each of these three miscreants going to college and glad to get off light! It really is depressing to think of the process they go through in planning and enacting a burglary. They need to learn how to live and work, not steal. It's less work and less troublesome in the long run.

I'm sure that to collect my insurance charges must be pressed, and I don't think they should be excused. But I want to know their stories. I'm a parent and I want to know what in these young people's lives went wrong that no one taught them a better way to live.

Okay, time to get back to the BS. Rapaire was right. I've been through worse--this is an annoyance, and hopefully I responded early enough to keep things under control credit-wise. But when I think about all of the stuff on my hard drive--whew! Mostly boring, but an ocasional hot spot.

I'll turn this into an essay. It won't be as funny as Bee-Dubya-Ell's description of the lost dogs near his house, but I'll get some mileage out of it. I won't dwell on those hot spots on my hard drive. ;)

Like BWL, I did meet a new dog in the neighborhood; he passed by with his human when I was out working in the garden. He was not lost like those BWL hounds, and was not being crammed into a spaniel-sized carrier. But he was a new dog to me, out walking with a new neighbor. An Irish wolfhound. Not exactly a lapdog. Nothing Reece Witherspoon would carry around in her handbag.

In other news the Denebian region reports that a planet that was under observation as a potential development site for life forms has been diestroyed, authorities report. The planet, whose working title was PD347 had a combination of mass, orbiotal distance, and chemistry that was somewhat similar to Terra's and it was hoped the planet would develop life. Unfortunately the planet's orbit was disrupted by the chain of cataclysmic events that began when a neighboring star went nova sooner than expected and disrupted the path of a black-hole construct in the region. It was the arrival of the latter in the region that caused the demise of PD347.

PD347 was not occupied by known life forms at the time of the catastrophe.

The star Deneb appears at present to have survived without major damage although scientists are keeping it under observation.

It is a reciprocial jade plant. It will not change, but it will change you. What it changes you into depends on the exact alignment of the planets at the time, and how long you have spent in hull in the last year.
This is all clear from the application of the lorentz trnsform function of the BS GUT, invoking the milankovitch exception....

Are Deneb and the Jade plant related? I'm thinking the Jade plant is proof that there was indeed life on PD347, and that is why it must be watched for change. When it hears that it's home planet has been destroyed the Jade plant may get depressed, and you all know what kind of trouble a depressed Jade plant can be...

She was not the child of her own parents, as far as they knew, but it was unclear of whom she was in fact the child, because of the loose practices amongst graduate students in Rio in those years -- the university was renowned throughout South America as a party platform. So the bio-technology grad students were partying hearty that summer and transplanting experimentally anything over a few days old to see what would happen. So they had little idea what sort of tradition she really belonged to -- Continental, Norte Americano, or who. So they just called her Reciprocal Jade, and because she was kind of grumpy at first they gave her a middle name -- Reciprocal Depressed Jade.

Little did they realize the odd twist their experiment would pursue in life as the years went by --from the high-flying luxury flats of the Rio's most expensive call girls, to the heady halls of government during the Great Unification, to the cabinet of the FIrst United South American States government, and finally to the first negotiations with those from distant star systems, finally detected after decades of effort and debate.

No-one was more surprised than she was to discover who her parents really were, which was only made possible by the first interstellar diplomatic mission from the Denebian sector...

The great wardrobe malfunction last year was the sign, but everyone was so busy noticing the nipple jewelry that they missed the larger message. She was flashing the "all clear" sign to planet PD347, but no one seems to have gotten the message, and they killed the messenger instead. How typically human. The jade plant was just window dressing.

Rapaire is working on the definitive annotation and indexing of the MOAB as we speak. His work as a librarian makes him eminently qualified for the project. However, his dislike of anything resembling work pretty much insures that it will never get done.

Those are the kinds of mutually negating personality traits we greatly admire here on the MOAB. Helps keep the playing field level. Any time you witness a flash of pure genius from any MOABite, just wait a while and that same person will astound you with an equally brilliant blaze of shear idiocy.

Layah - Just below the little window where you type up your posts, there are a couple of small advertisements. They are links to "sponsored links" from Google. Websites with sponsored links pay Google a few cents anytime a hit to their site originates from Google. If you click on one of the ads, Mudcat gets a portion of Google's cut.

Google tries to make the ads topical by keying content to key words in recent posts. So if I just happen to mention something about collectible action-figures in this post and Google keys on it, the next poster may see ads for suppliers of collectible action-figures.

Yes, I was away. North, north to Butte and Bozeman and Deer Lodge and West Yellowtone, although not in that order. And I returned only minutes ago. Of course, the Big Bang was only minutes ago (albeit many minutes ago) so that tells you very little.

I think I want to see what Google picks ups for ads from this post.

We drove from Butt e to Deer Lodge and we went to the NPS Ranch -- the Grant-Kohrs -- there. This was only about 40 miles from Butt e, and while at the ranch we heard a cock crow. We saw whips and chains and saddles, as this was a working ranch, and they even caught mustang at this ranch.

Let's see what happens.

Oh, thank goodness it wasn't a fully gronw boojum, but just a baby one, or I'd have suddenly and silently vanished away. As it is I just flickered a bit in a whisper. But what a shock to the system! Why, I was neither here nor there, totally at sixes and sevens! As it is, parts of me are still sometimes insubstantial. No, just a baby. Cute little fella, too. Ran off to his or her mommy after I started winking in and out. Looked sorta like a cross between a dachshund and an Irish wolfhound, only different. You could tell it was an ordinary boojum by its coloration, of course, and I checked it out in Roger Tory Peterson's Field Guide To Boojums And Snarks Of The Rocky Mountain West when I could hold the book again.
