Amos, it obviously isn't hot enough where you are, or you wouldn't be wasting all of this energy being eloquent. It's Too Darn Hot!

Amos, I feel that your post of 04 Aug 11 - 09:32 PM passed your usual point of brilliant loquacity and veered sickeningly off course, ending up mired in a swamp of opaque and incomprehensible verbosity and balderdash. In short, it became a travesty. This does not do you justice!

My earnest wish is that you re-express all the thoughts therein in a less opaque and more user-friendly fashion, and it far greater length, run the result up the flagpole, and see who salutes. ;-)

I expect more detail and superior exposition next time. About 5,000 words should be enough to make fully clear what you had in mind.

Get to it. ;-D

Go to, fellow-illusion of the Great and Sickening Mind of the One. I take orders only from our DIvine All-Powerful All-Humble Creator against whose slightest whim there is no withstanding. Nor any standing, either, come to think of it.

There are some things I do not even reveal to His Holiness. It would undermine his self-confidence.

Yeah, you did. Amos was out kayaking...well, there was this electric fence, you see, and he needed to answer nature's call, so rather than sink his kayak he put into a secluded beach...and as I said, there was this electric fence...anyway, he now depends on Depends.

As the Author of Everything, oh, Infinite One, you are surely capable of better mediocre second-hand drivel than that, eh? EH???

Yes, but there are ladies present so I prefer not to mention how you roasted a wiener and no longer make "s'mores".

Why are all the most colorful Almighties subject to arrested development at a fourth grade level, and a fixation on body parts? Maybe they feel guilty about shoddy workmanship, bad design, no QA processes in place, failure to test or sloppy system integration?
A good course in comparative religions can leave you feeling like a day-camp counselor for immature Cub Scouts.

"Why are all the most colorful Almighties subject to arrested development at a fourth grade level, and a fixation on body parts?"

Actually, they aren't. It just seems that way, because the immature ones make more noise. The quieter deities are equally colorful when you get to know them, in fact even moreso, but they aren't pushy about it.

You guys were masticating the words so brilliantly, expectorating so clearly onto the paving stones of our virtual world that I thought I pissing contest might come next that it might be almost as good as an illustrated talk.

You are soooo welcome, Amos! That is what I toil for here, to make you a better person, and I am delighted that my earnest efforts are bearing fruit.

Anything else I can help you with?

By the way, that is pretty close to the way Chongo charmed his way into the graces of some great White Hunters back in the 20s in "the old country". Only a few years later he was landing in New York Harbour, and the rest is history.

MOM, the boy musta gone on a toot up in a mountain meadow with the gang from the Legion Hovel. I heard rumor someone wanted to reenact a Rendezvous campout up there. In which case, they'll roll in when the booze runs out.

That doesn't explain why Eiseley hasn't been here, except that I know she's employed and has young 'uns to tend to. She's probably out slaughtering a steer to feed the boys this winter.

I've been shopping a little this afternoon myself, nothing exciting. Too bad I live so far away from real mountains, an escape to a high pasture would be nice about now! (or, for some of you, escaping to get high in a pasture, back in the old days?)

Dear MOM and Sibs,
I just rolled in from a whirlwind tour of Yellowstone and Teton National Parks. Yes, we made s'mores, no we did not make them in the uncouth way Rapparee hinted.

I spoke German off and on the whole time and learned many new words. By far the best new word was the German term for marshmallows: Mausespeck. Translated, it means: Mouse Bacon.

That makes s'mores sound even less appetizing!

Now I'm going to go take a shower and then a nap.

Eiseley

MOM, I'm tossing the sugar and white flour for a while. Gotta do something to lose this 40 pounds that aren't coming off when it's so hot I can't get much exercise. So we're all gonna diet. Stop with the s'mores, (I can't eat chocolate anyway) and break out the bacon and sausage and pickled herring. (Not necessarily all in the same meal.)

Only a day or two after making my upthread remarks about arrested development in Divine AUthors, I ran across the following interesting article with this paragraph in it:

"Depending who you ask, there's a 20 to 50 percent chance that you're living in a computer simulation. Not like The Matrix, exactly ? the virtual people in that movie had real bodies, albeit suspended in weird, pod-like things and plugged into a supercomputer. Imagine instead a super-advanced version of The Sims, running on a machine with more processing power than all the minds on Earth. Intelligent design? Not necessarily. The Creator in this scenario could be a future fourth-grader working on a science project.

Oxford University philosopher Nick Bostrom argues that we may very well all be Sims. This possibility rests on three developments: (1) the aforementioned megacomputer. (2) The survival and evolution of the human race to a "posthuman" stage. (3) A decision by these posthumans to research their own evolutionary history, or simply amuse themselves, by creating us ? virtual simulacra of their ancestors, with independent consciousnesses."

A number of ancient spiritual traditions have asserted that this Earthly world and all we experience in it is akin to a shared dream...in effect, an illusion which seems very real while one is experiencing it...and that this reality is "dreamed" by the many spirit souls who project themselves into it through biological birth inside the "dream". Furthermore...that the real existence from which we come into this one is a world of Spirit where everything exists not apart and separated, but in a state of Unity.

The North American Indians in some cases had such a belief, and it is also expressed in a number of the great Asian traditions.

If it were so, we would have no way of knowing it while we were here...operating inside the illusion or the dream. We would have no way of proving it or disproving it either. But we might through intuition or soul memory suspect it.

It might be exactly what we chose to do when in Spirit. That is, I'm saying that it's quite possible that we deliberately chose to come here, be born to certain parents, and in a certain time and place, in order to play out a role in the collective dreaming...a role that in some way appealed to us or allowed us to confront challenges and opportunities that would help us grow, evolve, and develop further. Maybe we just did it because it looked like fun to play that role! Any of these things might be true.

In any case, once you are here inside this circumstance of Earthly existence, you must deal with the various limitations it places upon you. And that can be demanding, can't it? It can also be joyful. It depends on how you relate to the situations you're in.

Death, as we know it, is a departure from this world, the Matrix, the Game or the Dream. And then what? I suspect there is a great deal after death, and that death is merely the closing of the play, the curtain call, after which one gets going on the next thing one wishes to do. I don't think we ever really die...but we do close the curtain on this Earthly drama.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits, and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd tow'rs, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve,
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on; and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.

"Researchers at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center have shown chimpanzees have a significant bias for prosocial behavior. This, the study authors report, is in contrast to previous studies that positioned chimpanzees as reluctant altruists and led to the widely held belief that human altruism evolved in the last six million years only after humans split from apes. The current study findings are available in the online edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences."

I'm with Descartes. It doesn't really matter much whether we are living in a dream or in some maze of twisting passages. It feels like free will, and even if it isn't, it seems like it.
