It has now become clear to me exactly what it is that they do with those urine samples collected in doctors' offices, for drug testing, and so on. In fact, the additional income corporations and other institutions get for used urine could well be what keeps them (you'll pardon the expression) afloat. I wonder, though, what it's posted under in the accounting offices -- accounts receivable? accounts payable? general ledger? And how do you handle the inventory?

Ewwww. . .now this conjures up ideas of one pretty smarmy sauce, Bunnah.

I think I prefer "butter makes the batter better" to "chamber lye doesn't foul your fowl."

It has been tried. My hair is now long, shiny and very clean. I will send you a sample. This is not a problem, as it has all fallen out, so I can spare some....

Goose is very tasty. Sauce is good though.

What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, Rap. You put it in your hair first, and report back. Then I'll think about it. :)

Chamber lye was also used to impart a sheen and body to woman's hair. Well, it's cheaper than VO5 or Pantene Pro-V or whatever...or maybe I've just identified the active ingredient....

This was sent to me and will pass it on:

Prsident George W Bush was scheduled to visit the Methodist Church outside Washington as part of his campaign. Bush's campaign manager made a visit to the Bishop, and said to him, "We've been getting a lot of bad publicity among Methodists because of Bush's position on stem cell research and the like.

We'd gladly make a contribution to the church of $100,000 if during your sermon you'd say the President is a saint."

The Bishop thinks it over for a few moments and finally says, "The Church is in desperate need of funds and i will agree to do it."

Bush shows up looking especially pompous and smug the following Sunday, and as the sermon progresses the Bishop begins his homily:
"George Bush is petty, a self-avsorbeed hypocrite and a nitwit. He is a liar, a cheat, and a low-intelligence weasel. He has lied about his military record and had the gall to put himself in a jet plane landing on a carrier posing before a banner stating "Mission Accomplished." He invaded a country for oil and money, and is using it to lie to the American people. He is the worst example of a Methodist i've ever personally known. But compared to Dick Cheney and the rest of his cabinet, George Bush is a saint."

Hope you enjoyed that.

This morning received a yahoo alert informing me of a high serverity.
the blackworm is scheduled to strike feb 3rd perhaps at first light.
Then its Bud lite, forever. (oh did i say that) sick sick sick...ok

I can manage the dog droppings, but there's no way I'm sending you dog pee, Rapaire. These girls are too close to the ground and too fast to catch anything. If I were to seriously collect any human materials I'd be using one of those domed septic tank/methane chambers and using the gas to cook over.

During the late unpleasantness between the South and the Yankees, the Niter Board of the Confederacy requested that Southern women save their "chamber-lye" for the making of niter. The old urine (which is what "chamber-lye" or "chamber-ley" is) would be collected and taken to a powder mill to be turned into gunpowder to shoot Northern troops.

Nothing special about the urine, just that the men were off in Army and the women were at home, patriotically mictruating for victory.

(By the way, the book Foxfire 5 has a nice section on how to make your own gunpowder. One of the ingredients is urine, the older and staler the better.)

Amos, I just buried a bunch of dog droppings in my compost. You can have them for alternative fuel any time you need them. I'll double wrap the plastic bag in the box so the post office doesn't get upset. Where do you want me to mail them?

Bunnhabain, you do me great disservice. It was NOT vaseline. It was bunker fuel. We were preparing an alternative method of propulsion to reform the planet's dependency on oil. But that was before we heard about Rapaire's mis-connected phone call. These guys are serious and this could be important.

What he was doing we don't know, as thankfully he was interupted before he could finish what he started.

As is my wont, this morning I took my quiche and sausage and drink down to my office and checked by email. After I had finished, I was going to check out the 'Cat and awaken Mom to another beautiful day.

While I was reading my email a Strange, Hostile Force had taken me offline. I rebooted the modem and router three times, and the PC once. Nothing.

I called the ISP support number, and a voice said, "Do not resist. It is futile. Your new brain implant is ready. Please come quietly, George, or we will pulverize your planet."

Well, I was puzzled, especially since my name isn't "George." I replied, astutely I thought, "Huh? My name's not George." And the voice on the phone said, "Is this Washington, DC, Pennsylvania 6-1600?" I said, "No, this is a phone in Pocatello, Idaho."

There was a pause and the voice said, "Aw, shit, Sam, you screwed up the phone number AGAIN! Goddammit, you stupid piece of Rurotarian...." and hung up.

I debated with myself over calling the number they'd mentioned but decided against it. I really didn't want to get involved, and besides, I had to get ready for work.

Downright Jungian. Little Greys and Big Greys weren't mentioned in Jung as far as I know but the principle applies.

HAPPY GROUNDHOGS DAY ALL:

Will he see his shadow here in Minnesota?? Will winter really be any longer if he does??

1887 - the first Groundhog Day was celebrated in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

1892 - William Painter of Baltimore, Maryland, patented the crown-cork bottle cap.

Its still too dark out to notice weather or not the groundhog has a chance of seeing its shawdow. Mainly depends on the time of day he desides to poke his head out.

The Damn Snow plows and dump trucks and bobcats on the sidewalks removed the snow they left piled in the center of the streets yesterday. Waking all us city folk a 4:00 am.

I know--I heard him interviewed somewhere--Dick Cavett? I don't think Johnny would have given him time to really talk about it, and this was a long interview--and I read it after that. It was interesting, but in the long run, I think needed a big grain of salt. Close Encounters of the Third Kind came out not long after this book, as I recall. Probably left Streiber in its dust.

See if you still have a copy of Whitley Streiber's book Communion in the library. It's a fun read before the big road rode trip. (Who or what gets rode is anyone's guess. . .)

At one time he was considered a serious author. This is the book that blew him out of the water.

Proper Etiquette For the New and Prospective Alien Abductee

1) Do not wear a tinfoil hat. It may reflect the abductor ray back to the spaceship and short something out which may result in an unwanted release of antimatter into the local atmosphere. Trust us, you don't want that to happen.

2) If abducted by a species lacking a proboscis, bear in mind that they've probably heard the "No nose is good nose!" line about seven to the thirteenth power times and it's no longer funny.

3) Don't expect to be asked to stay for dinner. Eat a light meal before going to the abduction.

4) Observe the "No Smoking" signs. If the aliens want you to smoke, they'll set you on fire.

And would I need a warm coat, or just a light jacket? Will I be allowed to leave a note for my wife about where I'm going and when I can be expected back? And I really SHOULD tell them at work, too.

Just one small correction, good friend; you responded by invoking a mindless and intentionless on-line Elizabethan Insult algorithm, a piece of oxymoronic artificial intelligence that ended up being artificial, but unintelligent.

I note with care that you have not spoken to the point I raised about your alteration of the Bard, costing his precious line all sense. Instead, you unleashed this synthetic hurricane of lazy insults borrowed from a cheap software machine, and then proceeded to assert the reverse of all actuality, by claiming erudition for yourself and seeking -- most unjudiciously -- to impugn and saddle me with your own acts of calumny.

You are, sir, but a poor mirror of a man, a shadow of a soul, a thin stream of badly-reflected smoke among the gracious trees of fine thought. Go to.

The alteration of Shakespeare, dear Sir, was yours, and with that tiny alteration, you unleashed a plethora of error in meaning.

Observe that in the Bard's orignal context, the line spoken is:

If 'tis true 'tis a pity, and pity 'tis 'tis true.

Which you revised in your transcription to the much less grammatical:

If 'tis true 'tis a pity, and the pity 'tis 'tis true. .

My correction of which stands firm.

The original line would be construed to read, if expanded, "...and pity it is it is true" (the 'that' being implicit between first "is" and second "it".)

But not your version, which cannot be so construed because you added the definite article "the" before the noun "pity".

One can only conclude, having been through this brief but precise analysis, that you should be advised in proportion to your small but powerful slip, "neener, neener, neener", as befits the circumstances.

I remain, Sir, your humble and obednt Srvnt,

A

It's a pleasure to be able to visit Mom so easily, and I was mostly planning on taking a gander and leaving again, but then my ear was assailed with audible BS from the radio. From the BBC, of all things.

We used to have a wonderful talk show host here in the Fort Worth and Dallas area, Glenn Mitchell, who had a two hour program at noon for the last 10 years. Glenn died suddenly right before Thanksgiving (he was 55). The station has floundered to not only fill the time, but fill it with something comparable, a very tough thing to do. The first hour is a talk show, but the second is this goofy BBC stuff, called "Outlook," consisting of far too many trite and insipid conversations. Right now they are discussing why women shave their armpits. They've had such lightweight stuff as the marriage between first cousins of the Pakistani population in the U.K., chat with loopy stars and local folks who became celebrities for inane reasons. Now this is worthy of being called BS, but in a dismissive way. It's lower-case bs.

Just venting. Back to your regular high-quality material. Maybe we'll even see BWL here more often now for some wonderfully warped renditions of life in and around his downed timber!

Thank you Amos and Stilly River Sage:

lch liebe dich is german for lch love you. Thankyou's you "cats" are so helpful.

At about 11:30 last night FINIALLY found a great translation sight:

http://freetranslation.imtranslator.net/

I was awaken this morning at 4:30 by the sound of a dog barking outside my window above mainstreet in town. Opening the blinds to discover a freshly fallen shroud of snow covering my pickup parked on the street in front of the building i live in. And a Park Rapids Patrol car in front of my truck. I turn on the scanner to hear my resistration and name replied by disspatch.
They were going to have it towed to impound for the being parked in a snow removal zone. Which extends from 2:00 to 5:00.
There was 2 -2 1/2 inches of snow at most.
Just the same didnt want to take the chance and proceed getting dressed and sloth like mossey out to brush the snow from the windshield.
Yet the city patrolman sits and watches and after a bit. Drives slowly off with that look on his face.
"Damit, just one more minute and we'd of had another 40 bucks for our dounut and coffee fund.
I grin and wave as he proceeds on by. Thinking "Jerome, bad Karma's going to come down on you for thinking that". Oh well...
In a way it made my day thou. And yes i know next time i may sleep thru it and wont be so lucky. And then i'll pay.. But until then all you "Cats".

Good Amos! I prithee, forebear thy criticism and brush up your Shakespeare! Specifically, The Tragical History of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, Act II, Scene II, where Polonius is telling Gerty of the reason (in his opinion) for Hamlet's madness:

Pol. Madam, I swear I use no art at all.
That he is mad, 'tis true; 'tis true 'tis pity,
And pity 'tis 'tis true.
A foolish figure!
But farewell it, for I will use no art.
Mad let us grant him then; and now remains
That we find out the cause of this effect,
Or rather say, the cause of this defect,
For this effect defective comes by cause.
Thus it remains, and the remainder thus.
Perpend.
I have a daughter - have whilst she is mine -
Who, in her duty and obedience, mark,
Hath given me this. Now gather, and surmise. [Reads] the letter.
"To the celestial and my soul's idol, the most beautified Ophelia,"
That's an ill phrase, a vile phrase; "beautified" is a vile phrase. But you shall hear. Thus:
"In her excellent white bosom, these."

I apologize for the inexactness of my quotation, but I felt that you of all people would recognize the words of The Bard of Avon.

There is no such thing. I have every respect for the man. He is rich in reference, heady in erudition, quick in quotation, wallowing in wisdom and up to his ears in pith. I have nothing but the greatest affection for him, our own Uberbookenmeister, the Mudcat's favorite information-head, a gentleman, a scholar, an upright citizen several times a week, a man of taste, clarity, distinction and eloquence.

Rapaire and I are kindred souls, and the only reason we occasionally spark (never "fight") is that we are too alike.
