OH My....much has happened in my absence. And yet, it is reassuring to see that nothing has really changed.

Except, of course, WE GOT SNOW!!!!! I went SLED RIDING!!!!! The car did NOT hit me after I discovered I no longer have the agility to quickly flip off of the sled and shove it and me to the snowbank by the curb to keep from careening across the blind intersection at the bottom of the hill.

(I am only mildly crippled.)

It were worth it. (To me - not to the driver who had to fight off cardiac arrest!)

Uh oh. Shane impersonators....do we really need more than one of him?

One is enough of him. Whichever is which, perhaps he will disappear into the maw of the cloister or fall drunken into a snowbank and not be found until Spring thaw. In either case, there will be no mourning at the bar when he's put out to sea.

Unless Big Tony finds him first of course. I don't think Big Tony would "do" a man of the cloth (he has an abiding respect for the Church and religious) but I know he'd change Shame's looks (if he's not the OCSO) before he feeds whatever is left to the fishes.

You too will pay for your sins, Rapaire. In good time.

I'm the creator and I see no reason for me to pay for what I create. As my creation, however, I see no reason for you not to pay for whatever sins I create.

Uh-huh. And if you're all-seeing, then you can probably see me giving you the finger right now, can't you?

Janie, the reason parents are paranoid about what their kids are doing when they're out sledding is because they remember the insanely stupid things they themselves did as kids. I remember dodging parked cars, and keeping fingers crossed as friends shot through blind intersections. We lived on a really steep hill. Look up this hill on Google Maps. You'll have to drag the little yellow guy over, then turn him around and look up the hill. The one we usually sledded on was the one that Google Maps didn't drive on, the lower block, but if you look at the upper side of it, you'll see why we were reckless hooligans.

When it comes to sledding, I am still an insanely stupid kid.

I just realized you can move the little guy over and look at the more gentle hill that we actually did most of our sledding on.

If you look one block to the west on 34th St. where it intersects with Bell, that tip of the house you can see on the north side of the street is my mother's former 2 story and basement house built on that hillside. And all you can see is the top of the roof. A really steep hill. And the street behind it, one block long Bell, is a fatality waiting to happen for any idiotic sledder. It was a great neighborhood to grow up in, though. I remember being paid for babysitting with whole salmon a couple of times--the step father of some kids I sat with used to fish. I loved the fish, so I said okay, though I could have used that cash. I think back now, and my mother must have been thrilled when I walked in the door with a five pound fish. :)

I didn't know you could that with google maps, SRS! Was disappointed that the cameras have never travelled by any of "my" places.

Now that I've wasted a half hour lookin' at the old 'hood, such memories have been brough back! Like when we jacked the cop car, or where my brother stuck a shank into Bucky the Squealer. I could even see the "house" of The Old Dope Peddler! And "Mary's Merry Manse For Men"! The cemetery where we used to "resurrect" folks and sell them to local doctors for spending money! Ah, the memories of a happy childhood come rushing back....

Yeah, it's a great time waster! Those guys out in the yard are forever frozen in time, until they drive by again. There are a couple of places where people requested the Google car come by so they could stage people in interesting activities (role play warriors, etc.) along the street. I'll have to ask Moonglow, she has found some of those. :)

I also created you, Amos. Everyone and everything, this entire Universe (such as it is), is my creation. I know this because sometimes you go away but I'm always here.

Yeah, I figgered you couldn't resist plagiarizing my scintillating persona. ALl your assertion proves, though, is you are not always all there.

Stilly - did you really see an altruistic finch? They used to be very common around hee, but they've been supplanted by the lesser egocentrio finch.

We have small populations of philanthroic finches and also munificent finches, which seem, on the whole, to resist the invasion of the egocentric finches. HOwever, I've been told there is a rise in the poulation of the malevolent finch whihc may overun all other species.

That's a low prob risk, IMHO, MM--the egocentric ones have a genetic flaw that frays the edges of their flight quills unevenly over time, and they tend to veer to the left. Just a little at first, but it gets worth with age, and by the time they reach mating age they are flying in tighter and tighter circles until they disappear up their own butts. Altruism seems to biochemically counteract this effect--something to do with teleome renewal, I think...

Now Amos can be joyful too! And everyone else! Sing! Dance! Drink copious amounts of wine! Throw someone into the pool! Set off illuminations and bonfires!

Man, I think it's a bit odd to be so focused on an imaginary character that you hire someone to rub them out, Rapaire. I am sure this is because you don't want to go looking for Shane yourself. For one thing, if you found yourself face to face with him, it might mean something hard to face about yourself. But I don't see that sending hitmen really lessons that embarrassing truth.

I know your real name, "Amos." I even know what you look like and where you live and shop.

I think I'll tell everyone your real name.

"Amos"'s real name is Norbert Oliver Smetana. He is no relation at all to the composer, and indeed his family adopted the surname when they slipped secretly off the ship as it docked in Elizabeth, New Jersey, evading the immigration officials and police. After months of peripatetic wanderings, they settled in the mountains of eastern Tennessee. "Amos" told me that family belief is that they are related to Big and Little Harpe.

It's called that out of respect for tradition, nothing more. They're not even bodice rippers. But I always say, let people read what they want. If Bee-Dubya wants to follow the amorous adventures of Chastity and Johnny as they take long moonlit WALKS on the beach while waiting until after marriage for their first peck on the check, well, that's his decision. They're often read by women of his age.

I submit, knowing BWL's general interests, that you are deeply and sadly wrong about the books.

I would put even money on it.

This is very sad because Our BookMaster has let us down in his specialty, AND because the Creator of the WHole Universe has revealed his blindness.

I feel my whole world shaking...
