Wadn't me.

So you're saying, Carol, that we should just enforce the laws we already have on the books?

Goodness, I certainly hope not. Or I might have to start an accordion civil-disobedience movement. And that might hurt.

Ya gotta love a guy who is always being so helpful. Just don't invite him to sleep in your bedroom -- you could wake up dead!!

Little Hawk! Sorry, bub, but you're dead wrong about the "you can't fart in heaven" thing! You can fart all you want to! The thing is nobody minds if you fart in heaven because heavenly farts don't stink! They smell like whatever you want them to! Roses, Grandma's apple pie, you name it. They just can't smell like anything stinky. Stink is not allowed in heaven. Farting, yes. Stinking, no. So, you get all the fun of farting without everybody knowing that you ate Chinese food for lunch.

I'm sure Spaw will enjoy the experience when the time comes. A fart that smells like the interior of a brand new 1956 MG would probably be fun.

Bruce

Oh, for heaven's sake! You can't fart in heaven because you don't have a physical body there, and lack an intestinal tract there, ya goof! You can't fart in the Astral Worlds either...but I suppose you could simulate a fart there if you wanted to. There are probably mischievous souls who do just that, complete with horrendous sound effects. Just like teenage boys in libraries and study halls...

Now if Spaw went to hell...well, I hate to think what might happen! It might result in the biggest volcanic eruption of all time.

"You can't fart in heaven because you don't have a physical body there,"

LH, how do you reconcile this with the doctrine (taught by all the better Christian churches) of the resurrection of the body?

I'm sorry, I forgot a Basic Truth. There cannot be physical bodies in Heaven and LH is completely correct. For if music is Truth, then we must all become reconciled that in Heaven there is no beer, since beer would require physical bodies for its enjoyment.

Hmmm..."Heaven for the climate and Hell for the company." Limbo's out, but Purgatory is still in. LH, can you drink beer in purgatory?

In Heaven you are supposed to have a Glorified Body, which would mean Glorified Farts presumably. All part of the Heavenly Choir.

I sort of doubt that you can drink beer in purgatory. You can probably simulate doing so in the Astral, however. As for heaven, there are probably many different heavens, so maybe you can simulate it in some of them too. But why would you want to? (just joking...I happen not to like beer very much at all)

Forget Heaven then, and Purgatory (beer'd probably be warm anyway), and Hell (probably only have Budweiser cold).

Is Valhalla still open for business? Or Tir nA nOg?

Speaking of things astral, I've been visited by a ghost! While driving to our Thursday night Irish session I had the radio tuned to the local university operated public station and what should they play but an archived live radio broadcast of a band I played with in 1990! Talk about deja vu or vuja de or whatever! Driving down the Interstate listening to what you sounded like thirteen years ago is weird. Actually, I was surprised at how good it sounded considering that none of us had any idea what the Hell we were doing at the time.
Some of us do still play together informally and we've all gotten much better. Hell, if we could round the whole crew back up and patch up the hurt feelings and bruised egos, we'd flat kick ass.

On second thought, nevermind. Sounds too much like work.

And since we all live in the past (all of our sensory input actually happened some time ago, however long or short), what you experienced, BWL, wasn't from a radio station archive.

You were actually enjoying a so-called "live" performance. It's just that your sensory input is sort of slow.

But Rap, if it was a "live" performance how was I at the university playing guitar/hammer dulcimer and in my truck driving to the beach to play guitar both at the same time?

And if it was live, that means that :

1) I still have the Taylor 810 that I played at that concert though I distinctly remember it being stolen about two weeks later.

2) David the cello player still lives in Mobile instead of in Pennsylvania so it hasn't really been ten years since we played together.

3) The two fiddlers are still best of friends and don't really snarl cuss and fight when they happen to run into each other.

4) I still play the hammer dulcimer quite well despite the fact that it has hardly been out of the case in eight years.

5) My mind is still thoroughly addled from alcohol and other substances though I ceased doing all that stuff about two months after that concert.

Can I just have #'s 1 thru 4 be true? I much prefer #5 the way it is now.

A simple viewing of all the films of William Shatner in chronological order from beginning to end could clear this up in six months or less, I would think.

No, you only *heard* it then -- the sound waves only reached your brain then. Everything else has changed, but the sensory input just reached your cognitive centers.

Everything that happened since then will soon be overtaking you too. What you think you have experienced "since" then actually occurred before the performance; what happened after the performance you will now experience.

Briefly, input of your life is running 13 years slow.

And exactly what were the chances, I repeat, what were the chances that we could get into something this arcane, esoteric and edgey without Billy Boy's name coming up?

Answer - The chances were exactly three: slim, none, same a those of a snowball in hell.

Actually, things don't need to be arcane, esoteric and edgey for Shatner involvement, do they? Dull, boring and mundane seem to work just as well.

And to really clear the matter up wouldn't one need to watch all of Shatner's films in reverse chronological order?

Of course, one could have a Mudcat thread that does not mention me at all...but...WHY???

As to the problem that bee-dubya-ell seems to be experiencing, it is an all to common problem for the "people" of Ralpha-Beta One (which rotates in the opposite direction as Earth). Even I experienced this difficulty once when I visited there. I commiserate with the boy.

Little Hawk, my Beloved Proponent with whom I am well pleased, is almost right on target with his suggested cure. In addition to the films (Correct bee-dubya, play them in reverse order and play them backward), one should also watch my TV Commercials, including the Price Line ads as well as my wonderful Riverdancing on the tooth whitener commercial!

Opps...gotta go...I see another opportunity to exploit myself!

Thank you Mr. Shatner. I believe you have cleared up my problem. As I reflect on it, I'm sure that the bass player in that band was from Ralpha-Beta One. As the female denizens of that backward planet are known to have strong psychic abilities she must have put some Ralpha-Beta One mojo on us that makes us confuse past present and future. As this current episode of temporal distortion is the first of which I am aware, it appears that said mojo has a recurring thirteen-year cycle. It is entirely possible I will be flummoxed again in 2016.

It also explains some peculiarities about the bass player herself. Like why she always wore those funny gloves with the ends of the fingers missing. She could fold up all those extra digits and stuff them inside the gloves and nobody would ever notice that she really had 17 fingers on each hand. It might also go a long way toward explaining why she was so fond of her bass and had given it a guy's name. It wasn't really a bass fiddle at all! It was a Ralpha-Beta One male. They are known to undergo metamorphosis several times during their life cycles, and one of the later pupate forms is almost indistinguishable from that of a 3/4 size bass violin.

(In fact, the Ralpha-Beta One male pupates three times during his life cycle. The bass fiddle form mentioned above is the final one. The earlier forms are almost identical to 1923 Gibson F5 mandolins and 1934 D-28 Martins. It is at these earlier stages of life that the defenseless males are most subject to predation, primarily by eBay scam artists and Asian gentlemen who own musical instrument companies.)

Oh! Oh! A direct posting from the Shatman (gasp!). Oh, Mr Shatner, I can only say that I bask in the warmth of your approval! Yes, indeed, and I should not have neglected to mention those commercials, which are incomparable examples of, of...well, words fail me to describe it.

Now here's a Star Trek scene coming to me...

(We are on the bridge of the original Enterprise, complete with cardboard bulkheads and little lighted diode thingies that blink on and off and make little "boop" sounds. Spock has just returned from a fact-finding mission to Megavulva 9, the mysterious planet of alien barhostesses. He is looking very, very grave...)

Kirk: "What's wrong, Mr Spock?"

Bones: "Yes, Spock...you do look a litte green around the gills." (winks at the Captain)

Spock: "It's quite intriguing, Captain. I seem to have...lost my mojo."

(Kirk looks very shocked and raises his eyebrows. Bones pops his left eyebrow up so high that it vanishes offscreen.)

Kirk: "How did it happen, Mr Spock?!"

Spock: "That is the strangest part of all, Captain. I recall nothing out of the ordinary happening whatsoever following my introduction to the alien barhostesses national curling team in their dressing rooms, but my mojo is definitely gone."

Bones: "Call me insensitive, but I didn't even know you had one."

Spock: "Doctor McCoy, these sort of intemperate personal remarks do not serve you well."

Kirk (grinning): "Well, don't look at me. I haven't got it." (turns decisively to anonymous crewmember in red pattern uniform) "Ensign Rogers! I...want you to prepare an away team...to beam down there at once, and...find Mr Spock's mojo! I...will accompany the away team, of course. I...intend to get to the bottom of this!"

Ensign Rogers (formerly anonymous crewmember in red pattern uniform):
"Aye, sir!" (turns away toward camera, sweating profusely, and agonizes underneath his breath) "I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die..."

I RECALL A GYPSY WOMAN

Silver coins that jingle jangle
Fancy shoes that dance in time
Oh the secrets of her dark eyes,
They did sing a gypsy rhyme

Yellow clover in tangled blossoms
In a meadow silky green
Where she held me to her bosom,
Just a boy of seventeen

CHORUS:
I recall a gypsy woman
Silver spangles in her eyes
Ivory skin against the moonlight
And the taste of life's sweet wine

Soft breezes blow from fragrant meadows
And stir the darkness in my mind
Oh gentle woman you sleep beside me
Little know who haunts my mind

Gypsy lady I hear your laughter
And it dances in my head
While my tender wife and babies
Slumber softly in their beds

Gypsies are a powerful romantic symbol in western civilization, and thus have made a great contribution for which we can all be grateful.

I met one woman who certainly fit my expectations of a gypsy girl. She also had a boyfriend who fit my expectations of an outlaw biker. I admired her discreetly from a distance.

It wouldn't have worked anyway. She smokes like a chimney, and could chew me up and spit me out and barely even notice, I suspect. Good thing that boyfriend was around to keep me sensible. :-)

I heard the children from the gypsy camp, right beside my own.
The sweet sounds of the candybox violins wafted in the wind.
I could hear a woman singing, My name is Gipsy Rose
and the sound of thosegypsy violins sounded off the crows.
Then I heard a commotion, and the harp player stopped playing his tune,
the police busted up the party, and the music was over too soon.

I remember the Gypsy Woman from my youth. Lived two houses down. Wild, she was, with her black hair tossing in the breeze or flowing with every step she took. All the young men wanted to play with her and did; I certainly wasn't alone in her affections. And then came the terrible day when she was struck and killed by a car. I think that every male of whatever age for blocks and blocks around was in tears, and I'm certain that the local tavern did a roaring business in lieu of a formal wake. Seldom was there a cocker spaniel who was so well and so widely loved as the Gypsy Woman.

I don't find cocker spaniels very lovable at all, come to think of it. They are usually half-wits who attempt to copulate with inanimate objects. Gypsy women, on the other hand, are definitely worth having in a community.

Gypsy Woman (we called her "Gyp") tried to copulate with your leg. Right or left, it didn't matter. Or a wooden one. She was caught with a banjo once, and for THAT she was banished to the shed for a month! Her owner said that there "wuznt gonna be none of that, that, onnatoorel stuff round here!"

Copulating with a banjo is not an unnatural act. In fact, banjos are in a state of perpetual copulation! Being-in-the-act-of-copulation is the banjo's most natural state! Just ask any banjo player how many times he has been told to, "Put that fucking banjo in the case and go to bed!" The only time banjo copulation might be construed as unnatural is when one is told to, "Stick that fucking banjo up your ass!" and even that's really just a matter of preference, isn't it?

Well, the most sordid part of the whole story is that Gyp ended up being the mother of a whole litter of cross-bred pups. We kids just called 'em "those weird puppies," but the adults about had a conniption trying to figger out what to call 'em. Since the mother was a cocker spaniel and the father a four-string banjo, some folks called 'em "spanbans" and others "ban cocks" (which caused confusion with the capitol of Thailand and which led to a riot because some of the neighborhood men, who, because of a lack of water [for their whisky or whiskey] weren't hearing too well thought there was afoot what we today might call a "Lorena Bobbit Fan Club" and they went around stealing metal trash can lids and bending them into the shape of metal diapers and then wearing them until finally the police came and calmed things down to the usual loud uproar and middlin' chaos that was the norm) and other "four cockers" (which led to a mass of male feelings of inadequacy for blocks around) and still others "spanjos," which was probably the best name for them because eventually their owner reconciled himself to them and took them on the road, where the little pups made melody (?) by holding their tails upright and crawling all over each other as puppies do; this was fine until they got older and started fighting amongst themselves, which led to the music being called "a cross between a quintet of untuned alien stringed instruments and a helluva good dog fight in the orchestra pit."

I hope that this clears everything up adequately.
