Obviously I know more that I can tell. And no, I'm not making stuff up.

We call it dressing here. Just dry bread, yellow onions and summer savory left to sit overnight in a bowl on the counter covered with a cloth. Good for turkey, chicken and pork.

Rapparee is making stuffing up?

Rapp, why do you invest your efforts in trying to be mysterious and half-communicative? Does it make you feel powerful? It mskes me feel irritated.

It's not so much WHO LH is engaged TO as WHAT LH is engage IN.

Lordy, Lordy, Amos. Do you think I so stuff just to irritate you?

I think you do stuff AND it irritates me. It is not for me to judge your intentions, which is why I was asking. But I do suspect you get a grin out of making me bristle. ;>)

He has almost as much fun doin' it as I have throwin' darts at yer ugly picture which is up on the wall here, Amos. ;-D Ook! Ook!

The library dude is a real sicko. He lives to raise shit and dispense disinformation about people. You should see the stuff he is sayin' about me on the thread about people who dislike me, "but"...

Well, you probably have already, right? It doesn't worry me. Ya gotta consider the source, after all.

The way Rapparee rationalizes this is by making a secret pun in his mind. So, he thinks "Well, Little Hawk IS engaged--in posting on Mudcat! AND he's engaged in buying and selling things. And in ordinary processes like digestion. So I am completely correct to say he is engaged. I didn't say, "Engaged to be married", did I?"

It's just twisty book-minded bull, the specialty of certain high circles in Pocatello.   I see you, Rapparee!! I see you!!!

Now, if I'd said "LH is betrothed..." it would have been a different matter. For all I know, his troth is still in a plight.

Resolved: That Little Hawk is a marriageable and eligible bachelor.

Yes, but he lives up in the Hinterland which does most of the eligible and marriageable Mudcat females no good. Amos, is there a Plan B to foisting him off matching him up with someone?

MOM and I have kicked back and shared a leftover bottle of wine. The glasses were clean, but the rest of the kitchen is waiting for tomorrow to be cleared up. It was a busy day today, and she wanted to ride along to my friend's house where I've been working to clear it out so the bank will pay him for cleaning it "broom clean." She's the one who told the metal scavengers to stay out of the dumpster and to go around the back and see the owner about anything he might have to donate to their cause. She was a little intimidating with that old blunderbuss she must have gotten from Raparree.

...'And only one for birthday presents, you know. There's glory for you!'

'I don't know what you mean by "glory",' Alice said.

Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. 'Of course you don't ? till I tell you. I meant "there's a nice knock-down argument for you!"'

'But "glory" doesn't mean "a nice knock-down argument",' Alice objected.

'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean ? neither more nor less.'

'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master ? that's all.'

Alice was too much puzzled to say anything; so after a minute Humpty Dumpty began again. 'They've a temper, some of them ? particularly verbs: they're the proudest ? adjectives you can do anything with, but not verbs ? however, I can manage the whole lot of them! Impenetrability! That's what I say!'

'Would you tell me please,' said Alice, 'what that means?'

'Now you talk like a reasonable child,' said Humpty Dumpty, looking very much pleased. 'I meant by "impenetrability" that we've had enough of that subject, and it would be just as well if you'd mention what you mean to do next, as I suppose you don't mean to stop here all the rest of your life.'

'That's a great deal to make one word mean,' Alice said in a thoughtful tone.

'When I make a word do a lot of work like that,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'I always pay it extra.'...

So do I, Amos. Lovely idea.

But if anyone here imagines that they can get me married off, they are supreme optimists. ;-D They are about as likely to do that as to...

1. find the Fountain of Youth
2. pay off the USA national debt
3. get Dennis Kucinich elected president of the USA
4. bring honesty and good government back (?) to Washington D.C.
5. get Woody Allen to stop complaining and pontificating
6. cause the MOABS threads to wither away due to lack of interest
7. establish peace, harmony, and mutual respect on all Mudcat political threads

You follow me? It ain't gonna happen.

The hinterland is ruff.

I wish I had carried a camera rather than a shotgun when I was a boy. I'd have well over 2000 pics of birch partridge alone. I am truly ashamed I didn't know better... didn't learn... didn't think... was a dumb asshole... whatever.

Yes, well over 2000... in about 40 years. Such a waste. It truly saddens me now.

The next time I go to war I'm taking a cameraman, a recording studio, an attorney, a notary public, and a videographer. I'll ask for written copies of all orders, no matter how trivial or important.

Then I won't have the VA trouble I have now.

Mom, I'm leaving for YNP/GTNP tomorrow after I teach. I'll try to stay in touch, but my niece is visiting and ya gotta take the kid around, ya know?

Yeah, Yellowstone National Park. And Grand Tetons National Park, which in directly south of Colter's Hell. Then I'll go to the GCSSA's L&C Range and maybe to FM or WM. I've already been to the USMCRD in SD, CA and even to FLW, MO and FR in KS and FC in CO. I've even been to CIL in VA, MFLA in MSP, CODI in PIT and DWF, ALA in CHI and even OLA in COL. My niece will leave PIH for SLC on FRI. Oh, yeah, I'm been to the OBX, too.

I am deliriously happy. My Apollonio six-string is now safe and warm at home. She sings like and angels and rings like heaven's own bells. What a beautiful thing she is!! Thanks, Nick Apollonio, for being such a master of your art!

You could give me the Martin.   I could take it out on round-ups and use it to sing cowboy songs 'round the ol' campfire as the coyotes howl in the hills and the golden sun sets behind the purple mountains while the scent of the sage mellows the air. And I'd almost NEVER use it to stir the campfire, either.

How does it compare to your favorite Martin, Amos? Is the Apollonio a 6-string or a 12?

It's a sick string. He's all excited because of the pink plastic frame and the little handle that plays "Pop Goes The Weasel" when you crank it. This way he never has to learn a new song.

How does it compare to your favorite Martin

I thought you were shifting the topic to 1960s sitcoms for a moment. But that would be "Martian."

I'm back more than before - two big projects have run their course. Today the foreclosed friend (who last week moved into new digs) should receive payment for clearing out the old (the bank's offer - "broom clean" for $2000 - but that was a hard-earned check with all hands on deck!) and my friend's husband died in hospice last night. That was a relief - I wouldn't wish a death from cancer on anyone.

So, do you suppose Martian knew anything about quarks or other sub-atomic particles? Or was his main shtick anti-gravity games?

THis is a hand-crafted gem-like instrument. VIsially it seems less ostentatious andmore elegant than the Martin. It has subtle touches like MoP inlays on the key frets on the edges, and purling, but, instead of a big maker's mark on the headstock, there is a delicate in lay of blue stone with three gold circles in it. Subtle.

Acoustically her voice is brighter, stronger in the upper end, and clearer when played softly than is the Martin.

I am not giving the Martin up by any means. But this Apollo is something special. I am still learning to play her.

Hmmm. It sounds like an ideal fingerpicking guitar. Those big Martin dreadnoughts were designed to power their way through the noise of a bluegrass band, so they have a really BIG bass end and a lot of volume for strumming, but they are usually less effective for more delicate playing and not as good in the treble end as some other guitars.

What kind of wood does the new one have on the back and sides?

Got any pictures we can see?

Carpathian spruce top, rosewood back and sides, and Nick's secret recipe for scalloping the braces. Something about her, man. You can power her out just as loudly as the Martin but she has the balance to sing sweetly with middle power as well. I am still getting used to her beauteous sound.

I will get some pictures up tonight.

Spruce top, eh? Nick seems to like spruce tops a lot. Scalloping the braces the right way can work wonders in improving a guitar's sound. The ideal end result is an instrument you can drive hard...or play delicately...and get great response either way. Sounds like you got one, Amos.

I'll be most interested to see the photos. Take pics from all angles, okay? I can hardly wait to see them.

Well, Amos? I stuck around and copped 42,400, just like you said I had to do to get your Martin. You very distinctly posted, back around 200, give or take a few thousand, that "I'll give you my Martin guitar when they 1) pluck it from my cold, dead hands, or 2) you post number 42,400 on this thread."

When can I expect you to send me the Martin guitar?
