There is no way we can answer that question of yours, Amos, re: consciousness. And I would starve if I thought about it too deeply.

MOM, fortunately, does not trouble herself with such questions, nor with wondering if they are actually unanswerable or if it is a requirement of life that one doesn't really try to answer it.

I don't know if the grapes suffered before they died, Mom, but they are not suffering now. Let me pour you another glass of wine.

I think that I shall write a dissertation. I'm certain that my research is the first in the area and it's just as exciting as any other PhD dissertation and perhaps more so.

It shall be entitled

On the Use of the Sap or Slapjack in the Assembly and Disassembly of the US Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911A1, With Notes on the Use of the Oxy-Acetylene Torch During the Same.

It's P as H and D as anything else.

Maybe instead I'll write a how-to book called

Restoring the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa With Hurst SC250E and Splitting Maul

Those are both excellent topics, Rapparree. Work on them both.

Janie, it's a marvelous question you raise as to whether something about being "in" life means you have to not explore certain aspects of life; I am pretty sure I don't think so, but you know me. Pigheaded rapscallion from the git-go.

gnu, stop signs probably work much the same here as they are intended there, but in Texas they don't seem to understand the four-way-stop etiquette: if two or more of you pull up simultaneously at corners of a four-way-stop, the vehicle on the right goes first. Here they race to the stop and then race to go before the other car has completely started up into the intersection. At least that policy is in effect in my home state of Washington. It was on the driving test, and since I lived in places without stop lights but lots of stop signs, most people understood how it worked.

Yes, I know four could pull up simultaneously. Then it's two falls out of three in the middle of the intersection.

4 way stops... seems to me only slightly more than 50% here know the rules. The ones that PMO are the ones that stop before I do and wait until I make a full stop and start to go so they can cut me off. Of course, the guy that didn't understand a ONE way stop took first prize.

Traffic "laws" were made optional world-wide after a Secretary-General of the UN tried to walk cross a street in Paris, drive in Salt Lake City, and be chauffeured to a meeting in Damascus.

Rapp, you must be losing it! That makes no sense. Anyone who went through those experiences would support international mandatory traffic controls.

Yes, Amos. It's out in the trailer at the moment. My old turquoise toilet. Unwanted, unloved...along with the turquoise bathtub and soon the turquoise sink.

All lost! All lost!!!

Mum got pissed at me today... again. Advanced green opposite. One car passed thru. I went thru the red light.

It's a traffic control device. It controls traffic. No traffic to control... I control. I have done it many times and have had people honk their horns and cops stop me. But, I just showed the cops my International Transportaion Engineering membership card and they let me go.

If it is a genuine turquoise toilet, of the sort that was hand-carved by the Navajo in years past, you should go find it. It might be worth quite a bit.

If you pay the shipping I'll send it to you, Amos. Bathtub too, but it's in pieces and you'd have to weld the cast iron back together.

MOM would probably love to have my 1960's kitchen countertop recut and reinstalled in her private bath with Rap's turquoise colored toilet. Rap's fragmented tub costs too much to ship, but Amos could get her a fiberglass tub and surround in a neutral color (won't take as many cans of spray paint to cover) and spray paint it to match the toilet. The rest of us could chip in on the cost of the spray paint. (and send Amos gift cards to the local ABC store so he can fill the tub with gin - a little house warming gift for Mom, so she can start out potted in her pod.

A Mothers Day gift from all her children, perhaps? We installed the foundation pad for the granny pod in Amos' back yard while he was in Belize a few years ago, remember? I think an avocado green and turquoise bath for Mom would be right up her alley and would save Amos a bit of money in finishing the pod. Probably save enough to warrant him paying the shipping costs, eh? Mom is getting a bit long in the tooth and decrepit, and I really think Amos needs to pick up the pace on finishing the pod for her.

If Amos, and Rap, were smart, they would build one a them pods right quick so when the doc authorizes the power of attorney they can move right in.

I figured you could afford yer own pod, Rap but if yer hurtin fer money ya could borrow some from AAAmos. ALL them Calleeforniacs got triple A credit ratings and youse are good buddies sos I figger he would lend you whatever ya need ta make yer golden years comfy if ya sign an agreement with strict terms of payment at a modest interest rate.

Just make sure ya don't hire some sleazy contractor ta build yer pod like that Bob Villa guy. Never trust a man with a beard... he's hiding someone.

Hell, Rapp, I would be happy to help a sibling out, as long as I felt safe doing it, you know. Like 3-to-1 collateral and, say, 13% APR?

It would be just like the 80's, dude!!

Yeah, but in the Sixties we compensated with a bounteous supply of zaftig virgins and nineteen-year-old hippy chicks. See, that isn't happening anymore.

It ends another prime number cycle, and that means the world as we know it may end.

Seriously, it looks like Pat and I will be off to DC on Saturday -- the snow is coming down pretty heavy right now. The end is very, very near for her mother.

What a relief. My condolences, Mike and Pat. I went back and forth when my mother was dying - she died just before I was to leave on the last trip. I went to work, and it was surreal - one coworker asked about her and I could only whisper that she died and I was flying out the next day - those were the days of being held together by nothing more than static cling.

Should anyone wish to attend, the viewing will be next Thursday and the funeral mass next Friday. Burial will be in about a month in Arlington National Cemetery, with my late father-in-law.

For goodness sakes, Mom! You're down at the bottom again consorting with manatees, mercenaries, and whatever went on last night! Get yourself back up where you belong, get cleaned up, have some food, and go take a nap.

Dancing on the tables again...hmmph!

Boggles? Are you now into understatement? The mind writhes, screams, explodes! Such beauty, grace, and wisdom all in one place! Not since Paris was asked to judge....

Pop in Stilly and Eiseley and you have a veritable gallery of loveliness and wisdom so sublime that puts to shame the mountain sunset, the sweep of the Milky Way over a calm Southern Sea, the very rainbow itself!

"Boggles" indeed!

MOM likes pot roast - we had one here yesterday that cooked all day in the crock pot. Mmmmmm! She also likes some of those fancy dancy gourmet meals that Rap dreams up, so the menu choices are wide open, Janie. What are you planning?

Two weeks ago I was wheezing and coughing so continuously I thought I would keel over and plumb die for lack of oxygen.

Today I walked four miles half of it up hill, without even stopping for breath, under the inspired and insistent leadership of Mudflanks McFuzzbutt, also known as Maggie Darlin' Dogg.

Thinks are definitely looking up since the darkest depth -- I have been off cigarettes for two weeks andf feel about twenty pounds lighter.

Looking good!

Mudflanks McFuzzbutt is an inspired name for a dog, Amos. Specially a dog that might have accompanied William Wallace. You should end up fit as the proverbial fiddle at this rate.

What I need is to be required to walk Winona a few miles each day. That would definitely work.

I hear it's pretty chilly in your neighborhood this weekend, Amos. Stay warm! Maybe you have an extra quilt for the bed?

Old Milwaukee and PB&J sounds good, Janie. I have some Mustang grape jelly I made last summer, look for the jelly jar in the fridge.

Anyone else here disable Java in their browsers? They don't work as well, but they may be safer. See my facebook page, I loaded a link to instructions yesterday.
