NEWS FLASH!!!!!

KING SUSPECTED IN COOKIE THEFTS!!

Mudcat News Service's crack team of investigative reporters have uncovered the culprit behind the recent rash of Mudcat cookie disappearances! King khandu of Mississippi has been accused of stealing other Mudcatters' cookies in a feeble attempt to retain control of the fabled kingdom which is rapidly slipping out of his grasp. Sources claim that khandu has hidden the cookies away in a secret vault in an undisclosed location and is planning to offer them back to their owners in exchange for promises of support in his attempt to keep his throne. Exactly how khandu is planning to offer the return of the missing cookies is a bit of a mystery since the now-cookieless victims are unable to receive private messages. This little complication was apparently overlooked by King khandu when he hatched this ill-advised scheme. To quote one of MNS's anonymous sources, "That khandu! What a idjit! Har, har, har!"

Meanwhile, in a related story, the first of an expected multitude of contenders to the throne of Mississippi has declared his candidacy for King. Mr. Slimuel J. (Slim) Piggins, a Vietnamese potbellied pig from Allentown, Florida has filed the necessary papers and will begin campaigning after the Memorial Day holiday. When asked about his candidacy, Mr. Piggins remarked, "Oink, grunt, snorf, wee!", which translates as, "Hey, Bub! Ya gotta apple in yer pocket?"

I'm still marveling at that SLOW MEN WORKING sign mentioned above (or, if you prefer, SLW MN WRKNG). I presume that K Rex saw the sign in front of his place of employment. And that finds me, to my surprise, very favorably impressed with the State of Mississippi (or, if you prefer, Msssspp). We know that in most states, official signage tends to be arcane, ambiguous, or absent. (Except here in Hawaii, where it's merely unpronounceable.) But to think that there is a state which would provide such a clear, simple, descriptive label ...well, here's a tip of my coconut-frond papale to your too-often-maligned dominion, my good man. Well done, indeed!

Aloha,
Mark

All of my family were from Illinois, originally, except those that weren't. I mean, after they came over the water. From the Old Sod. Who I suspect they were running away from. I don't know where Xenophob is -- perhaps near Rabbit Hash, Kentucky or Blue Ball, Pennsylvania? I mean, if it's in the United States at all.

That's pretty pithy, there, K. Were all your family xenophobic?

Are we certain that this is not some kind of diversion created by the Dutch? They are good at that sort of thing, you know.

My Grandpaw always said "When in doubt, suspect the Dutch".

Well, he didn't always say it. I remember one time he didn't say it.

Last evening the chicken exploded.

I had had the local bomb squad check it out, and they had gotten all excited about "checking out some chick." The Federal Marshal who lives in the apartment below mine had also checked it because I was worried about the wires and batteries and stuff inside it.

Fortunately the chicken was outside when it happened. The blast destroyed almost all of half a quarter of a hillside. For a moment I thought it was something the chicken ate, but then I remembered that it was already dead.

Rotting feathers and such are all over the place.

Could this have been some sort of threat? Even though the tag on its leg was addressed to me, could it have been meant for someone else?

Your Lordship....

You already have the two-song tape by khandu. He sent it to you last week when you got all the answers to his quiz correct. Remember? First prize for this new quiz was a free weekend at the Sandy Landing Yacht and Racquet Club and you have won!

Since you live in Mississippi and are probably not up on the currently chique places to be seen in Florida, we'll tell you a little about SLY&RC. Sandy Landing is a sandbar on a creek in The Blackwater State Forest a few miles from my humble abode. It is a popular drop-off point for canoe trips. It is also a very popular place for local teenagers to practice both safe and unsafe sex at night. Mostly, though, it is a place for guys named Bubba and Jim Bob to hang out on weekends and drink lots of beer and leave the cans all over the place so the forest rangers can pick them up on Monday. Some people are actually brave enough to camp overnight at Sandy Landing, though doing so with anything smaller than a .357 in your tent is not suggested. The "Yacht and Racquet Club" thing is a joke some guy came up with. He actually had tee-shirts and bumper-stickers printed up and was gonna make a million dollars off of them but only four people bought 'em.

Actually, it would probably be a very nice place for you to set up your kingdom-in-exile after you are deposed from the throne of Mississippi. Bubba and Jim Bob have never seen a real King before and would probably think you was a lot of fun to hang out with.

The biggest fit of pique in history was that evidenced by Zebulon Pike when his advances to a certain Apache woman were rejected out of hand. Thus the expression "Pike's Pique" found its way into the annals of the American West. This is a little known and fascinating fact.

A few night ago, in a fit of pique, I posted a quiz on this thread. Just in case anyone's curious, here are the answers. If you're not curious, don't read em!

1) Three songs whose titles refer to street names for LSD are Hendrix's "Purple Haze", Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" (after "orange sunshine") and Chicago's "25 or 624" (25 being slang for LSD-25). I'm sure there are others.

2) Martin's D-45 was designed for Gene Autry. Gibson's J-200 was designed for Ray Whitley. Autry's signature song was "Back in the Saddle Again" which was written by Whitley.

3) Ted Nugent played a Gibson Byrdland, usually considered a jazz box, before becoming a PRS convert.

4) John Mayall wears a large Bowie knife on stage.

5) "The Second Coming" became "The Allman Brothers Band" after some personnel changes. "The One Percent" changed their name to "Lynnyrd Skynnyrd".

6) Contrary to what some folks believe, Derek and the Dominoes keyboardist Bobby Whitlock is alive and well and living in Alabama.

7) Zappa's dad was a history teacher at a private boy's academy in Jacksonville, Florida.

8) Tony Rice was turned down for the Ronstadt job for using a capo.

9) John Hartford used a flanger, a device more commonly associated with guys like Eddie VanHalen, in his stomp-box rig.

10) The largest crowd to see Hendrix was at the Atlanta Pop Festival on July, 4th, 1970.

Bonus answer: As a country resident and former owner of pigs, I do probably know more about pig shit than most people.

Dear Your Soon-to-be-Deposed Majesty,

I hate to call this to your attention, but your brainstorm regarding omitting vowels has one minor flaw.

As most of us know, the fellow masquerading as President of the United States is "George". If you eliminate the vowels from his name he becomes "Grg". Now, as most folks who frequent this forum know, the real name of the other guy we all love to hate, the former Mudcatter who goes by the name "Gargoyle", is "Greg". If you eliminate the vowels from his name he too becomes "Grg". Thus, by eliminating the vowels from George's name and Greg's name you have made them into the same person. In other words, you will have made Gargoyle President of The United States! Bush being Prez is distressful. Garg would be unbearable.

I seriously think you should reconsider your idea before you make that phone call to yer ole buddy Trent.

Bruce

Well hells bells boys and girls, the thread is takin' a turn for the better. We got mole counters now. I was just countin' some moles the other day. Found a nest of those little critters down at the bay, in the weeds.

See, I was up in a tree watching the moon glow red and some big Minnesota buzzard lookin' thing came and landed in the tree right next to me. I don't think it knew I was there and when it saw me sittin' up there high in the sky it kinda went wacko on me and flappin' it's huge wings and the damned old buzzard lookin' thing, scared the hell out of me, knocked me right out of the tree.
I bounced off a few limbs and must have knocked my head, 'cuz I woke up layin' in the weeds and look around and I got a bunch of little mole creatures climbin' all over my body, so I think to myself, I should count them all. So I did.
17 of those little black mouse, shrew, mole lookin' things crawlin' around on me. I kinda flicked them off me as I counted, You know that middle finger against your thumb kinda flick?
Well, then I proceeded to crawl home but that's a whole other story. But the moral of the story is, "You can count your moles while laying in the weeds, without getting fucked, up in a tree, by an old buzzard."
Peace to you all from the Purveyor of Beauty and Poetess-Lariat and (mis-labeled)Knower of Diddlesquat, Rustic the Ironing Woman (I caught that Bill)

Having considered more and assumed less about the following subject, I have come to these conclusions.

Of vowels and consonants, I have concluded that consonants are more important. Why"? Consider this:

A message omitting all consonants would be indecipherable. However, using only consonants, communication is still possible.

Example:

o e oi...makes no sense! However, sending the same message but using only consonants we may understand:

slw mn wrkng

Slow Men working

However, I am of the mind that we rely too much on vowels. I conclude that, if we practice not using vowels, money and time could be saved!
"How?"you ask on the edge of your seats!

Well, consider road signs (as in the example above). With less letters, we have less costs in production!!

Let us practice with the following "road signs"

Rlrd Crssng

Slw, Spd Chkd b Rdr

Slw, Schl Zn

Stp

Mrg Rght

Are you beginning to comprehend?

I shall submit this to Senator Lott later this week!

Are there any distinguishing moles, blemishes, boils, buboes, etc. on the chicken? How many? How many pimples, scars, blackheads etc.? Count them and send yore findings back to all agencies involved. This is what they want az I too have regularly been recieving dead nekkid chickens wrapped in Baltimore newspapers and shipped in cake boxes. I thought at first it was a khandu trick but habv discounted the theory az he would have trouble wif access to Baltimore newspapers or any other, for that matter, in Mizippi. Be very thorough and check yore work, that's important to them and thar reserch.

I did that, LH. I also made seperate lists of liver spots, freckles, pimples, blackheads, cuts, petr, peter -- little red spots, scars, and misc. blemishes. I managed to do my back side (and backside) with mirrors so that the parameters would be consistent.

I mailed a copy of the list to the Interior Ministry of Colombia, the CIA, MI6, the OGPU, the AF of L, the CIO, the IWW, LC, FBI, MI5, the Serka, and the PLO.

So far I've been sent a dead chicken. I don't know who sent it, but it was really very dead and quite insistent about being so. There were foriegn stamps on the package.

I'd like some suggestions.

Ah...a fresh, new day and the sun is shining. Lovely.

Now...here's a neat thing you can do to fill those empty hours: Count all the moles on your body. You may need help from a friend or relative to get the ones on your back and in hard to see places. Then catalog them on a comprehensive list, separating them into huge, large, medium, regular, small, and really tiny moles. Once you've got it all compiled, send the list off to the Interior Ministry of Colombia, and sit back for a few weeks and wait to see what happens...

Hell, that's nothing unusual. Everyone is infatuated with Penelope Rutledge, including me. I've heard rumours that she is a real "looker" to use an old-fashioned word, and her high class attitude only adds to the allure. Those like Tweed, who pretend to detest her, and claim not to be interested in her at all have got it BAD! They are secretly consumed with lust, but they're afraid people might find out, so they try to cover up by insulting her. I seem to recall that same method being used by very young boys and girls who are suffering pre-adult hot flashes over the opposite sex, but would die if their friends ever found out. :-)

I don't have that problem. I freely admit that Penelope Rutledge causes my pulse to race and my palms to sweat. She is young, rich, beautiful, and feisty...and she's the reigning queen of Twillingsgate, probably the most classy and quaint small town in the entire Western World. What more could one ask for?

I'm glad to see this thread still has some controversy left in it...
