NEWSFLASH!!!!
Music Thread Falls Off Page!

The long-running thread started by Mudcatter "burnstump" requesting information regarding a Gibson J-300 guitar has been allowed to fall below the 24 hour line. After repeatedly being told in various ways that there were very few of the things made (possibly only a single prototype), and that nobody who frequents this forum has ever seen one of them, the fuckhead seems to have finally gotten the point. And it only took 22 days of being told the same thing over and over again. The last post to the thread was made at 24 Jan 05 - 01:53 PM. Of course, there is no guarantee that the dipshit won't refresh the thread because it appears that what he lacks in brilliance he makes up for in single-minded blinders-wearing persistence.

I was certain Rapierre either had a tentacle removed or flayed alive. (Hope you are nicely sedated and goggle eyed dear friend)

But wait now...What is this come to??? A chat room? We must have more BS!! This tripe is merely horseshit. Where is the BS? This is, afterall the MOAB thread not MOAHS!! Close up those ranks, rank those files, double time now...Huthuthhuthuthththtuthhtthut..

The Wizard of Oz flew around on a couch in one of the Baum books that came a couple after The Wizard of Oz. And there were more puns per square inch of paper than we could almost stand as we read it.

Horses in the house? Naw. But maybe cows on the roof.

It happens to be exactly 30F right now. That's 30F above, not below. It was sunny all day, got up to 45.

Keeping horses in the living room also helps keep the heating bills down. We also keep cattle and goats in the basement for the same reason. We're environmentally conscious.

Sir, my sofa IS a one-horse open sleigh. This is, after all, The West. The home of the cowboy, of the mountain man, of the dance-hall girl with the heart of gold, of the shootist, of biker babes, where the smart started and the tough died on the way. Not some namby-pamby drag scene like San Diego.

We stable our horses in our living rooms, sir. It shows how much we care for our horseflesh, and putting up with flies and odors shows just how tough we are and how much character we have. I'll be willing to bet that you've never said, "Well, gotta go muck out the living room" -- and really meant it.

Naw, I take it bac!, Come on ahead, pal. I have a case of "Beers of the World" in the garage I have been wanting to open and your whapping me would be the perfect grounds for celebration or whatever. Besides, it' s so much warmer down here that by the time you got here you'd feel so much better you'd hug me instead, and offer to paint your living room to boot. ANd besides, you could always use the old sofa as a one-horse open sleigh.

Uh oh! I think I've still got about half a can of WhoopAss under the sink if you wanna use it, Rap. Only I'm not sure it's still any good and I'm damned sure not gonna open it up to find out. Last time I opened a can of WhoopAss on myself I wound up in the hospital. In fact, it was that same can. I was lucky to get the lid back on it before it killed me.

I think the living rooms were the waking nightmare part of it--they were worse than some of those couches. My house is messy, but interesting, never so down in the dumps as those. Whew! (If you can avoid some of those fashion trends like flocked wallpaper and wood paneling and harvest gold, you're doing yourself a favor for the long haul. Good quality wood and upholstery holds up for generations.) My couch, the first big piece of furniture I ever bought for myself (I inherited a lot many years ago) was purchased when a Thomasville store was closing (owner retired). They ran the "going out of business" sale for a long time, but only at the end when they were REALLY closing did I go in and look around for something to actually make an offer on. It's lovely and is a wonderful nap couch.

Anyway, I agree with Rustic, that "winner" couch actually had potential. It needed good upholstery and a great setting. We had one, with the original horsehair, up in my great aunt's attic and I've always regretted not keeping it.

What is ugly, really? Gotta take it all to perspective. I personally think the winner of this couch is really not ugly. It has nice woodwork, quite unique and I would give tha woman at least $20.00 bucks for it!
Looking at my couch, I would say I would have a good shot at winning this years competition. I have to cover mine.

It's all relative. A baby gorilla is "cute but ugly". A Sharpei puppy is "cute but ugly". But, if a human child were to be born with exactly the same features as a baby gorilla or a Sharpei puppy, it would NOT be "cute but ugly". It would be an abomination.

And since most MOABites are, by definition, abominations, it follows that they cannot also be "cute but ugly".

I think I've told this story before, but probably not on the MOAB...

My wife, Susan, and I discovered a nest of little rabbits in one of our garden beds a few years ago. We'd just started spring tilling and didn't really need that bed yet, so we left it alone so the rabbits could mature. About a week later we were back in the same garden and Susan decided to take a peek at the baby rabbits. She pulled back the overgrowth and promptly stuttered out something like "Damn! Big! Snake!" Yes, a four-foot gray rat snake had decided to make lunch of the little baby rabbits and had killed all but one of them. So, I relocated the serpent and we decided that, since there was a good chance Mamma rabbit would abandon the nest because of the snake, we would hand raise the lone survivor until he was big enough to fend for himself. We kept him in an old aquarium for a couple of weeks until he looked big enough to survive on his own and then released him near that same veggie plot. We had intentionally kept our interaction with the little guy to a minimum because we didn't want him to become dependent. But, it seemed that he had learned to associate humans with food because every time we would go up to work in the garden the little guy would come around and investigate. Well, one day one of our cats decided to stroll along with us when we went to the garden and when little bunny came around to see what was going on.... Well, let's just say that if you're ever betting on a race between a young rabbit and a cat, put your money on the cat.

"One among many other things by which Ethiopia is known is suggested to be her literary heritage. This priceless, rare and valuable literary heritage reflects the indigenous civilization of the country. In addition to their significance in manifesting the indigenous civilization, these manuscripts written on religion, history, language, philosophy, astrology, social, economic and Political...etc. issues have got a valuable contribution for research.

a) Homily of the passion of our Lord and Services for passion week:-
The Manuscript is written on vellum in 2 columns in the Geez Language in the 15th C. The writings are bold and neat. Names and headings are rubricated. Its size is 46x33.5 cm and has 434 pages with wooden board covered with stamped leather.

b) St. Paul Gospel (Bible, New Testament): -
The Manuscript is written on vellum in 2 columns in the Geez Language in the 15th C. The Writings are bold and neat. A painted picture (drawing) of St. Paul and his followers is seen in the book. Its size is 34.6x25 cm and has 281 pages and is covered by a hard leather.

c) The Four Gospel (Bible, New Testament): -
The Manuscript is written on vellum in 2 columns in the Geez language in the 14th C. The writings are bold and neat. Its size is 29.5 x 20.3 cms and has 554 pages. The first 45 pages of the book are filled with painted pictures (drawings); particularly of Jesus Christ, his followers, Saints, Angels etc. The book is partially damaged due to manhandling."

So not only is Geez extinct, it was a liturgical language in the first place. This reminds me of the old definition of a three-time loser: pregnant nun drives Edsel.

But, ya know, whatever turns ya on, Mister L.

The sole traceable morphemic packet which can verifiably be traced to Geez is the modern slang term, Kludge, pronounced to rhyme with "rouge", meaning a lash-up, junk-job, coping solution, clutter-ball, junk object or other indeterminate state of entropy. It has been traced to the word k'h'l'o'o'o'o'z''e in ancient Geez, pronounced Jeeze. As near as can be told the original meaning of this word in Geez was "fart", so you can sort of see how it got handed down.

The "G" in the word "Geez," when referring to the language, is actually pronounced with a soft "ch" sound, as in the Latau word "aliagij". In the case of the word "Geez" (in this context) the soft "ch" is overlain with a sibilant and a glottal stop-click as in the Bantu word we render as "gnu."

It might be helpful to know that the Geez language usually placed the descriptive adjectives after the predicate -- in English, a sentence would read "Bill read ugly dumb beautiful a story to Mary" while the meaning would be "Ugly Bill read a dumb story to beautiful Mary." This was not confusing to native Geez speakers, but was difficult for those learning the language to conceptualize. Also, the language used only the past and future tenses, as the world view of the original speakers had no more grasp of the present than they had of the pluperfect.

I have been reflecting upon my desire to remain as ignorant as possible regarding Geez. Why am I so adamantly resisting the urge to just type "Geez" into Google's search window and let myself be whelmed with information?

I believe that the answer is inexorably tied, in some as yet poorly understood way, to the fundamental nature of BS. Is not a certain level of ignorance a prerequisite for spouting truly copious amounts of BS? Think back to your college days. Weren't your most BS-ridden papers about the subjects which you understood the least?

Given what I know of Geez at this moment, if a college professor were to ask me to write a 200-word essay on Geez it would be something along the lines of:

Geez is an ancient Ethiopian language. Ethiopia, as we all know, is a nation on the African continent which, many years after Geez was no longer spoken there, came to be ruled by the late Emperor Haile Selassie who, for some poorly understood reason, was posthumously elevated to a a position of extreme reverence by a Jamaican religious sect known as the Rastafarians. Rastafarianism is noted for its sacramental use of "ganja" or Marijuana as part of its religious ceremonies. Other interesting aspects of Rastafarianism are its practitioners' tendencies to refer to the Supreme Being as "I" and to wear their hair in "dreadlocks". In the 1970's, a musical style known as "reggae", whose principle practitioners were Rastafarians, became extremely popular world-wide and white kids around the world began to wear their hair in dreadlocks and smoke ganja at Grateful Dead concerts. To the best of my knowledge, these dreadlock-wearing young people did not speak Gleez, though they did occasionally suffer from acute outbreaks of lice.

Geez, I don't know. Heck, I don't even know if the "g" is hard or soft. I suppose it'd be easy enough to find out. After all, I am, at this very moment, connected to a network which contains so much information it makes the Library at Alexandria (where I'm sure a bit of Geez was spoken) look like a toddler's collection of picture books. But, ya know what? If we just ignore our ignorance, Amos or Rapaire will find all the answers we need and post them right here on the Mother Of All BS Threads.

Of course, there's always the possibility that Amos would say "Geez" is pronounced "Jeeze" and Rapaire would say it's pronounced like "Geese" and then we'd have a big fight on our hands. Didn't it take 279 posts to decide that it doesn't really matter if "kludge" rhymes with "judge" or "rouge"?
