I like bacon too. Everyone likes bacon. Even Muslims, Jews and vegans like bacon. They don't eat it, but that doesn't mean they don't like it. I've never eaten a guitar, but I still like them.

I thought I saw a magnetic monopole
So I reached for it and whoosh it was gone
As fast as a Squid it went down a whole
like a flux tube in twistor space it was Dyon.

Hypothetically quasipartically speaking
the damn thing wasn't really here.
But then again I wasn't really there.
hyperbolic three space not what I'm seeking.

Now I'm over monopoles
They don't give me a charge
they don't give me a push
All they do is go whoosh.

This clerk was cleped hende Amos.

Of deerne love he koude and of solas;

And therto he was sleigh and ful privee,

And lyk a mayden meke for to see.

A chambre hadde he in that hostelrye

Allone, withouten any compaignye,

Ful fetisly ydight with herbes swoote;

And he hymself as sweete as is the roote

Of lycorys, or any cetewale.

His Almageste, and bookes grete and smale,

His astrelabie, longynge for his art,

His augrym stones layen faire apart,

On shelves couched at his beddes heed;

His presse ycovered with a faldyng reed

And al above ther lay a gay sautrie,

On which he made a-nyghtes melodie

So swetely that all the chambre rong;

And Angelus ad virginem he song;

And after that he song the Kynges Noote.

Ful often blessed was his myrie throte.

And thus this sweete clerk his tyme spente

After his freendes fyndyng and his rente.

I don't know if Albert Einstein ever fed a dog, but he was known to keep a box of bacon-flavored Magnetic Monopoles around for Gluon to snack on when he dropped in.

Remember the jingle?

Oh, feed your duckdog Magnetic Monopoles
They're chewier than Higgs' Bosons
And tastier than Black Holes

Feed your duckdog a platter
Of non-baryonic matter
That tastes better than cake batter
Magnetic Monopoles

That's right folks, Magnetic Monopoles in bacon, liver and chicken flavors. They'll make your duckdog stand up and say "Quark!"

Bert had a job washing dishes at a biergarten in Berne. Couldn't pay his tab and the owner put him to work, paying it off at drei pfennig per hour. Took him eighteen twelve-hour days.

Amos, Avagadro has everybody's number, including yours. 6.022140857(74)×1023 mol−1 to be more precise.

I just sat down at the computer to write some witty remark but a chocolate lab came into the room (he's one of my watch dogs) and announced the time: Eleven minutes PAST Seven. Past dinner time. So I must go do what I must do. Do you suppose Albert Einstein ever fed the dog or washed dishes?

It is obvious that the frequency of collision between molecules will depend on several factors, including:

Diffusion coefficient (and hence h , r, T, etc)

Diffusion distance (concentration)

Target size (also r)

When reactions between molecules occur at every collision, the reaction is said to proceed at the diffusion limit. Such reactions have NO ENERGY OF ACTIVATION, and are called diffusion-controlled reactions.

from the Arrhenius equation

k = A exp[-Eact/RT]
(where k is the rate constant, R is gas constant).

When Eact = 0, k = A.

For a diffusion-controlled reaction, A is given (approximately) by:

Adiff = 4p(rm + rn) (Dm + Dn) No / 1000
(units M-1 s-1)

here rm, rn, Dm, and Dn are the radii (in cm) and diffusion coefficients (in cm2 s-1) of reaction species m and n, and No is Avagadro's number. Division by 1000 cm3 gives k in units M-1s-1.

I trust this will settle the Hash of Rapp for the time being. I am equally certain that the Hash of Rapp will not remain settled for any significant period of time.

Not so! For example, water has the inverse recombination reaction of \

H3O- -> 2H2O with a diffusion controlled reaction rate constant of 1.3 x 1011 M−1 s−1 at room temperature. This, of course, assumes pure water and ignores such things as isotope effects (deuterium oxide, D2O, self-ionizes less than "regular" water, for example).

Thus even state change (water can change to steam and back again, for instance) isn't final.

I would like to portentously add that there are state changes that serve as finalities while final finalities do not exist just as Rap says.

What is finality, anyway? Is anything final? The last nail pounding into a house can be pulled out. A mountain washed away to sand can be reborn by tectonic action, and the sand itself, by pressure and time, can again become schist. If I were thrown into the heart of a star I would become the elements of which I was composed and then eventually ejected into the Universe to become part of something else. Even infinity isn't final, for there is always room for one more there. As the music dies and the echoes fade, the song is never stilled but it carries on in the minds and hearts of the hearers, even if no one but the singer hears it. Finally, we see that nothing is final.

This is rare times indeed--we see in one span of days the return to MOAB of the long-lacking King Khandu, followed quickly by the reappearance of our esteemed and respected friend, BeeDubyaEll, whose fair temperament and slippery sense of humor have been missed in these hallowed halls.

Some things, however, change not a whit nor a shred, as witness the cosmic chest-pounding of yon Booqueman. I am sorry to see he is now prognosticating at an unhealthy clip in the most dire and portentous style he can manage. It's nice to know some things are constant in our frenetic world, but I would have preferred some other things, myself.

I was talking with Bert -- Bert Einstein -- once and he told me that the whole Relativity thing and all that started as a joke. He and some beer-swilling buddies at the so-called "Olympia Academy" in Bern thought it all up and before he knew it he was a PhD and their joke had won him the Nobel Prize.

Bert's only problem was that he like Budweiser too much, forsook good beer, and it warped his thinking so much he died.

I see no need for Emperor Rapparee's intervention in the Yellowstone matter. The issue can be solved by the voters of the United States simply electing Donald Trump president. That won't stop the eruption, nor lessen its destruction, but in comparison with the disaster of a Trump presidency, a Yellowstone eruption will be of about as much consequence as a mouse fart in a hurricane.

As Dr. Einstein once said, "It's all relative."

If not, well, the Cascadia Fault will go soon and I may have lubricated it. But everything west of the Cascade's eastern slope will soon liquefy and slip muddily into the Pacific. This will trigger the San Andreas, which will dump everything from Fresno south and east to the Nevada border into the Pacific; stuff north of Fresno will be spared and so will Mexico and the drought will be over. However...the tectonic balance will be unbalanced the the New Madrid Fault will kick in and the Mississippi will again run bluff-to-bluff as God intended; New Orleans needn't worry about flooding as the Atchafalaya dams will break and the Big River will flow unimpeded down what was the Atchafalaya, bypassing NO and leaving lots of things high and dry. THAT will unbalance the Great Lakes and they will cataclysmicly flood everything from the US shores to Memphis to Mobile to New York City. The Humongous Canadian Sea Wall, put up to stop the Great Lakes from slopping into Toronto and Montreal, will fail and all of Canada will slide and overlay the US -- the property claims will tie up the World Court for decades. Eventually the Canadians will scoop everything up, shovel it into trucks, and Make Canada Great Again, not for any reason other than the innate niceness of Canadians.

I think the hose thing will work, though.

"Barriers to migration on the skin such as belts may be one reason that chigger bites also commonly occur at the waist or at other areas where their migration is prevented by compression from clothing." "A chigger bite itself is not noticeable. After the chigger has begun to inject digestive enzymes into the skin (usually after about 1-3 hours), symptoms and signs typically begin.
◾Pronounced itching is the most common symptom.
◾The area of the bite may be reddened, flat, or raised; sometimes it resembles a pustule or blister.
◾The itch is due to the presence of the stylostome and usually is most intense within 1-2 days after the bite.
◾The itching persists for several days, and complete resolution of the skin lesions can take up to two weeks."

Put clear nail polish at the end of the critter's tunnel in your skin. Chiggers don't usually spread disease (except plague, dengue fever, scabies, Hansen's Disease and ebola), and it will cut off the air and the thing will die and be absorbed and excreted by your body.

Off to UIN this morn, but first I gotta pick up a horseless carriage.
