Ah--so THAT'S what happens to the ones who don't get bid on at auction. Poor guys. Imagine, believing you are a work of art, and at the end of your days, to be served as a pretended steak instead of admired for your artistic merit. Never realizing through all your long years that you are, in fact, not a genuine entity to begin with!! Poor, deprived Symbol!!!

Think how many more people could bid if they do possums next time - and how much more money they could raise. Even the common man can afford a possum.

I didn't know they served possum at steakhouses. I think I've been overcharged.

I take it you've never eaten in some of the steak joints I have, Amos?

Yes indeed. Even if you made them twice life-size you could sprinkle hundreds around town.

It seems the cows are supplied (as fiberglass blank cows) to the artists gratis, and when the artistry and the exhibit is done they are auctioned off to various people who have the money and the peculiar mindset required to bid on them;' the funds then support charities. A good purpose for a fiberglass cow, whose very existence is problematical in the first place....

There were a few of the fiberglass cows that had cow chips. The use of pigs, according to one who has seen both, is much less inspiring.

Cincinnati did it with pigs about eight or nine years ago. You should go looking for pigs.

Pocatello is going to do it with cow chips.

Well, now it is.

In other news, we spent the afternoon wandering the sun-blessed, bejewelled city of La Jolla in search of the Fiberglass Art Cows that are currently meandering thrugh the whole town at odd corners and lots. There are subtle ones and loud ones, clever ones and pedestrian ones--all the same basic Cow, but transformed by individual artists.

We found about twenty or so, I think.

Another brainstorm of mine, inspired by Tweed, Spaw, Carol the Sailor and their ilk.

We can save time which we spend searching through all the BS threads very easily. Henceforth, post all BS here in this thread. Soon there will be only one BS thread. We won't have to look for particular threads as this will be the only one and it will contain all the BS we have to offer.

My Gawd!! Why has this not been thought of earlier? It is so obvious!

I swear, sometimes I even amaze myself!

(Khandu, Founder of the MOAB)

It is almost six years since Mom first appeared to salvage the weary ruins of a moribund Mudcat and assuage the fretful pluckings of her faithful followers.

In six years, she has not once dropped off the front page of the forum (using default settings) as far as I know.

This is an awesome accomplishment, and, indeed, a resounding responsibility for those who have borne the burdens, fought the battles, written the posts, worn their fingerpads to the knuckle, and strained their brains coming up with BS for Mom to turn into floating joy and sparkling renewal for Mudcatters everywhere.

Here in Mudcatlandia, we should have a National--no INTERNational holiday on Cinco de Mayo to celebrate the Birth of Mom and the Ascendance of Khandu.

Wit Gluon's help and her intrinsic pan-existential nature, Mom can hang out on the Texas porch while enjoying space-time conditions in the Bahamas, simultaneously.

Food-finding is an odd art. I have seen persons pursuing it by rummaging through trash cans, and pursuing it through smelling stalks and leaves, and pursuing it by delicately wandering through the Yellow Pages, and pursuing it electronically on Google and iPhone applications, not t mention through the age-honored method of gossiping about where Food is to be Found.

It is probably the greatest indoor sport in the world. Some find Food by loping barefoot through the hinterlands, others by squeezing packets wrapped in cellophane, others by peering interminably into the refrigerator or pantry, or poring over the crap-racks in the 7-11.

No wonder we have so many words for shit in our language--just think how much time and trouble we go to to produce it!!

The only food I know how to find there (so far) is a food court across the street in an underground mall. I'll ask Moonglow if there is any decent food in the area. :)

There are lots of possiblities, I'm sure. Yes, we can do that!

Janie, its effing-snowing in Texas this weekend. Better get a quilt or down comforter to wrap around MOM if she still plans to hang out on the porch today. On the Texas porch, anyway.

Moonglow tells me (via text on my cell phone) that the Sheraton bought out the Adams Mark. So this is the hotel I've been to many times. The ONLY destination I know how to get to in Dallas other than Love Field and OUR RAPAIRE is going there! What are the odds! (And I can take the train and the tram to get there! Cool!)

Good ol' Google

Customers of Dynix, Inc.

and

Unicorn Users Group International

They seem to have your time filled.

There is only one hotel in downtown Dallas that I know for sure how to find, and amazingly, across the street from this one. I think. My kids (remember the remark about a convention they attend) is always across the street at the Adam's Mark. But I think they might be the same thing--I think they have a pedestrian bridge a couple of floors up, and events spill over between the two.

On another note, I pulled a CD out of the copious number on my kitchen table and was pleased to find that I finally own a copy of Saint Saëns' Symphony No. 3 (the organ symphony, the fourth movement was a theme in the film Babe). I've been wanting this for AGES, but I'd have had to spend $15 or $20 to get it.) And now I have it and 299+ of its friends to enjoy. :)

Rain, rain, and more rain. (Ah, I can hear those water tables replenishing, even as I type.) Spent the day in Greensboro picking up CEU's. I hate driving on a 6 lane freeway when it is raining at a pretty good clip. Oh well. better to crawl passed all the wrecks than to participate in them.

I estimate, after sorting them roughly alphabetically, that there are about 300 high quality CDs and another half-dozen boxed sets. This guy bought great stuff, and at least it has gone to someone who will appreciate it!

Moonglow will take a look at this stack and I could put money on it--she's going to spot the boxed set of The Mikado and is going to at least want to borrow it, if not own it outright. :)

"But Mom, you already have a copy!" will be the persuasive argument.

Cherry blossoms in Dallas? I think not. Redbud. Magnolia. Bradford pear.

What brings you to town and can you swing by Fort Worth while you're here, or, shudder, tell me where you're staying and I might even go to Dallas for a visit. I don't do that for just anyone, just so you know. If it wasn't for the airport in town (Love Field) and a yearly convention my children attend, I could count the number of trips I've made to Dallas in the last 20 years on one hand. But there's a train, and good trams, and if worse comes to worse, I could drive my pickem-up truck over.

Hey, MOM, I logged on this morning to count coups. I swung by a garage sale and bought a big plastic bin full of classical CDs. Must be 50 pounds of good name high-quality disks in there. Woman running this sale (they do 2 a year, it's for their church) didn't figure she could move many of those, so asked if I wanted the lot for $20. I ran over to the corner market and got some cash. I'll sort the ones out that I already have and see what's left.

I like the way it will take a strip of negatives and sort them out into individual photos.

I'm working with 40 year old negatives from my days in Korea, back when I hadn't yet lost my boyish laughter and youthful innocence by toting a machine gun around them there hills (sucker was HEAVY, and clumsy as well).

But what I wanted to say was that I'm gonna be in Dallas in early April, just in time to catch the cherry blossoms.

You people on the west coast! Irrelevancies in season? In MARCH? There's just somthing very wrong about that. Irrelevancances are a summer item in this neck of the woods; very short season as well.

Oh sure, everyone has their favorite recipe for canned irrelevancies, but for FRESH ones you can't beat one newly plucked on a summers day in late August, warm from the sun, kissed by the dew and heavy with the expectations of future delights.

One of the signs of frostbite is if your toes turn white and then black and peel off. That's when the gangrene has set in and if amputation is done soon you'll die.

Nobody has shown any hard evidence that there is much of a future beyond death, except for great composers who have to play all their music backwards.

Which brings up the question: If a great composer, say Beethoven, had composed his works backwards from the beginning wouldn't he have already decomposed? And having once decomposed wouldn't he even today be composing and we'd be enjoying all of the works he never got around to writing in the first place?

Two of the suits are silly. He is representing himself on the first. It was dismissed in small claims court, and he has appealed. It got selected for arbitration, but neither he or I intend to blink. He has already informed me in writing that if he doesn't get exactly what he wants, he will move on to District Court. My legal fees for arbitration are going to be about equal to what I would pay him if I ceded, but my attorney is very clear that I don't owe him, and that she is pretty sure she can get him ordered to pay my legal fees. And it is clear that it is time to draw a line in the sand. Don't know yet what he will do regarding the second. My best hope with both is that they are dismissed, with prejudice, and that he is ordered to reimburse me for legal fees.

However, we have shared legal custody, and have 50/50 physical custody of our son, who alternates weeks with us. (That was Son's choice.) At present, no one is ordered to pay child support. I voluntarily pay for son's medical insurance and medical and dental expenses, school expenses, new clothes and shoes, drum lessons, summer camps, etc. It is a struggle for me to do so. I do have a somewhat larger income, but he has liquid assets far in excess of mine. In addition, his wealthy father recently died, and within several months he will have a substantial inheritance, including, but not limited to, trust funds for both himself and our son.

He is suing me for child support. Under North Carolina law, he might get it. He is an irrational person, and not capable of weighing the financial costs and benefits to himself of pursuing all this. What Granddad's estate represents to him is more money to pay attornies.

Bah! Enough of this.

Let's move on.

1. Get a damned good attorney.
2. Have the suits dismissed "with prejudice" -- that means that if any such thing is brought before a court again HE is slapped with a fine or jail time for contempt. At that same time ask the court to have him pay all of your costs (and nothing more -- that shows you're not in it for the money).
3. Get a protective order and a "do not bother" order at the same time.
4. Change your phone number to an unlisted one.
5. Change your email address.
6. If you haven't already as the court to restore your maiden name (that is, the name you had before you were married).
7. If he has firearms, tell the court that his continued harassment makes you afraid that he will do something violent and ask that the local cops collect the guns.
8. See if you can terminate any visitation rights he may have.
9. If he's paying child support or alimony tell the court if he's so much as a day late in his payments and ask for a garnishment.

If he wants to play with the courts you have to make it soooo expensive for him that he drops that game.

Janie,

You need an attorney who can make it clear that these are punitive, manipulative, frivolous lawsuits, and not only get them tossed out as an abuse of the court's time, but make him pay your fees. Surely this isn't the first time something like this has come across the dockets.

Good luck! Meanwhile, the burning paper bag of shit on his porch is a good move to make you temporarily feel better.

Time to organize a group of vigilantes. I'm thinking Rap, with sabers rattling and guns blazing, Chongo, the McBride boys - best leave the Legionaires at the Hall, I expect. Thugs, knights gallante, some one handy with a sharp knitting needle - hell - I'd even welcome our old friend Martin Gibson - well, no. That is definitely going to far. Strike that last line.

Just got notice of another lawsuit the ex has initiated. That is three in the pipeline now. I figure the mortgage I'd have to take out to fly the crew out here, keep 'em fed, and go their bail if they get caught will be considerably less that the mortgage I'm going to have to take out to cover the attorney fees to defend myself. He is determined to stay on my radar screen, no matter what he has to do accomplish that, and is willing to bankrupt himself and me if that is what it takes to be sure he still has my attention.

I just want to move on with my life and stop being distracted by all this to the detriment of Sum Yung Sun. I wish I could just cave in and walk away. Problem is, that is what I have been doing, hoping he would then leave me alone. He has experienced that as an invitation to push some more. (Silly me, I lived with the man for 25 years, and already knew that about him. He is not a monster, but is a man governed completely by his emotions - and boy, is he enraged at me for "abandoning" him.)

Talk about Bullsh*t!

I WANT MY MOMMY!!!!

Rant over. Pretend I didn't post this.
