From the swamps of deepest Florida sunny
Comes a new poem, it's really a honey!
While I'm here in old Westport,
Heading for Dingle,
I'll get there tomorrow,
See its beaches of shingle,
I've been there before, I ain't no fool --
It's just down the road from old Annascaul.

Many videos on YT by a true genius. You can watch his songs but I would suggest you seek out his video of his commencement address of... well... it's there if want it... here is just one that I like...

You can talk about Lassie and old Rin-Tin-Tin
And Snoopy the beagle, young Charlie's best friend,
Or King of the Mounties, or Benji, quite small,
But Gluon the Duckdog's the best of them all.

Not really a particle, not quite a wave,
We never know how Gluon's apt to behave.
For life's complicated, it's not really simple,
When governed by Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle.

Some say he's made up, just a MOAB invention,
A duckdog who lives in the seventh dimension,
And flies here to there faster than Mighty Mouse,
And sleeps in a teserract-shaped duckdog house.

He navigates wormholes to new galaxies
Where live huge duckdog-eating Thingamazees.
Worse than Bandersnatches, much worse than a Snark,
But he frightens them off with an ear shattering "Quark!"

So here's to our Gluon, oh duckdog supreme,
More than an idea, much more than a meme.
The best darned duckdog in the whole multiverse.
Yes, as duckdogs go, we could have done worse.

Or, he could type in his text and send it via Morse Code.

Queerest of quarks of the darks of the morning
Shine on our Gluon and honor his bond
Queerily questing, his bright orb adorning
Leap into being a half-a-league on.

MOABites don't need to worry about silly things like data plans. We have Gluon! If it's going to cost you an arm, two legs, and a chicken wing to send a message, no problem! Just jot it down on a cocktail napkin, whistle for Gluon, and the noble duckdog will travel hyperspatially to the nearest available free Interweb place where he'll type the message up and post it to this thread, all quicker than you can say

"Quark!"

I hope Rap didn't have to load the entire MOAB into his phone or laptop just to send that little ditty. It's hell on the traveling dataplan.

With Brother Rapparree on his way to Dingle and West Cork (long may it pop) it rests with us--we precious few!--to carry Mom onward in an endless and senseless quest for greater heights of numeration. But like all truly Great Missions, it is not meet that one should question why; it is merely ours to do, and do and do.

I don't see why you'd be doing anything on a bus to Belfast, unless it was Belfast, Maine. It makes no sense. Most people get on a bus OUT of Belfast. So I am led to conclude that this is a coded message trying to tell us that Rapparree has been kidnapped and is being held ransom. Somebody contact the Derry Neerdowells -- I am sure they will run out with their rusty pikes and set matters right. ANd all they'll ask for is another gallon of poteen.

Anyway, I am glad you got to get some tears out--it is always a good reminder of the dimensions within, often ignored, that need airing from time to time.

I am again in tears. Cousin Jim just left. He called earlier and asked if I was accepting company. He arrived with two family heirlooms which should have been given to me upon Bro's death had my SiL not been such a silly bitch. "Been"? Still is. Thank goodness I did what I did and said what I said or these heirlooms would have left the Owens family forever for paltry dollars (long and strange story). She's like that. Anyway, there were six, and two have been returned to their proper home. I opened the first case and told his son, Daniel, a lad of 15, a story about it's contents and there was much laughter. Then, I looked at the second case and began to weep as I knew the case was my father's and I knew what was in it. I opened the case just enough to see what was in it even though I knew what it was and I lost it. Tears needing tissues. I sucked it up and told THE story about it. Jim teared up and his son understood.

Welcome home Dirty Thirty. Now that it is home, I can will it back to Cousin Jim when I die... on accounta that's what respect is all about.

Damn it's cold here tonight fer comin June month. Full moon comin and we got cloud cover and some showers so, not unusual... just abnormal given the past ten years or so.

Dublin is, of course, a magical location on the misty shores of Eire. One of the things that makes the place magic is that it contains a fair city, which is ALSO called Dublin. Thus, Dublin is Dublin's fair city.

Stilly, well done! That gent was a wiseacre of the first order!

I awoke to the heat pump in cool mode. It is now in heat mode as the temp dropped about 12C from yesterday. It actally dropped about 6C in less than 5 minutes late AM today. Mum's apple tree blossoms coated the place in the wind. The north wind has settled and the rain has abated somewhat. I have a chicken thawing in the fridge for Tuesday... forecast is for 9C, rain and wind. I prefer such to the 30C+ of a few days ago. Plus, I likes me roast chicken.

Ebbie, I learned it as "In Dublin, fair city, where the girls are so pretty... " which makes sense even without poetry's license.

"Dublin's fair city..."

I've never understood that phrase. Dublin IS a city. Right? How can a city have a city?

Unless they meant to say: Dublin is a fair city, etc.

In that case, why "IN" Dublin's fair city..., etc?

?

As it happens, Amos, I was able to search my computer documents for "obit" and found several items, including a PDF I made of the page. From there I searched and came up with this link to John Wayne Dappen. It ran from Oct. 8 to 12, 2008 in the local paper.

There was an obit in my hometown online paper a few years ago written in advance of his death by the man himself. It was quite interesting and amusing. Of course his family added to it, and they maintained the same tone. I remember that several of the remarks were from strangers congratulating them on the great write-up.

I read a line in a recent obituary that rather startled me- I realize I am a visual person, not to say somewhat literal but anyway...

"So and So walked into the forest last night surrounded by his beloved wife and two daughters."

Sweet. :)

I remember gnu. Heart was in the right place. Then, he decided it wasn't so he fucked off.

Yeah, he escaped. I'm cool with that.

I think it is a shortening of "passed on", which implies transition without regard to success. But I agree it is ambiguous and I think we should start saying "escaped" instead.

"Aunie Rose--bless her heart!-- I just can't believe it's been three years since she escaped."

"The Jergenoid family is saddened at the recent escape of their Great-Uncle Abernathy Terwilliger Jergenoid, a man of great agility and distinction, who escaped last Friday at four-fifteen pm."

Yes, that would definitely shift the tenor of the conversation a tad.

Hi, Mom! Why do some people say someone has "passed" when they die? How does anyone know whether another person has passed or failed? A dead person can't show you his report card. Oh, it's pretty obvious in some cases: Mother Theresa passed, Ted Bundy failed. But most cases aren't that clear cut. And anyway, even if they did pass, they didn't merely pass. There's no next grade to go to. They graduated.

If this thread weren't dedicated to BS, you would have to be ashamed of yourself. And off to Dublin, as well, and that the center of the entire BS universe to boot! I am afraid you will return infected from toe to forelock, unless you wear a whole body condom. Not a bad idea--just be sure to have someone apply a little twist-tie to the top end of it for you!

More rain. Monsoon season in Texas. And predicted again tomorrow night. This has already been the wettest May ever in Texas, and it may be the wettest month ever measured. Being an unwilling participant has been trying. My yard is a jungle. There is moss growing on the dogs. My Seattle web toes have been completely restored after years of a Mediterranean climate. MOM is going to have to hire someone to come dig the moss out of spots on the roof. If I want to dry out I guess I'll have to go visit Seattle.

A friend at work was commenting today that she usually puts chopped onions on hotdogs, but since I gave her a big jar of my green tomato relish, she doesn't need to add extra. I've a bag of home grown onions chopped and frozen that I use in things like marinara sauce and bean recipes, and I think it was homegrown onions along with the garden peppers and tomatoes in the relish.

Our 20% chance of rain today is making a heckuva lot of noise outside right now. I think the forecast must have meant 20% of the day it would rain. Amos, I'd like to send you some of this, if you'll provide a suitable incantation to send it on its way.

Buy them, cut them up however you wish, and freeze them. Chop them up with celery and freeze them to use in cooking. Do them with sweet peppers the same way. Cheaper and easier than doing that every time you need them AND you have great onions the year around.

No, no, don't thank me. Just send lots and lots of US dollars, twenties and fifties preferred but not the only ones accepted.
