No, it's 130 posts away. I can't do much math, but I'm hell on wheels at subtraction.

March 24. I have a double hernia repair. The fourth time within a year I'll have general anesthesia.

Hi, Mom! This is post #51869. I hereby proclaim the distance remaining to post #52000 (131 posts) to be "within shouting distance". At some further point, the distance remaining to post #52000 will be "within spitting distance". I'll let you know when we get there. You can rest assured that the determination of said "spitting distance" shall be made in an entirely random fashion, leaving no room for concern with the vagaries of logic, common sense, parliamentary procedure, or the indecipherable manner in which a game of ten-pins is scored. I may or may not be wearing a cap when that point is reached.

When we were still a couple I was the one who most often wore hats.

My den is a step down from the kitchen and the house builders put in a metal rail along the top of that long step, leaving a gap to walk through. There is a knob on each side of that metal rail gap, and I hang my yard ballcaps there. A couple of them are the clean ones to wear when going out in public (like over to Home Depot to buy more top soil or lumber) and then there are the grungy ones for dog walks and working in the garden. My hall closet houses some fine straw hats with broad brims from my days of working in desert regions, and I have a fine woven palm Panama hat for yard work. There are a couple of old straw cowboy hats from when the kids were little, and I have a whole bunch of knitted and crocheted headgear for very cold weather. And my hats that I can't get rid of but that I also don't wear are several vintage Stetsons worn during my many years as a park ranger. Every so often I pull one out just to prove I really was a ranger. Who else would buy a "Smoky the Bear" hat?

If I were a woman, my SO's cap collection would probably be the last thing I'd want to take with me if the relationship should fall apart. Well, not necessarily the last thing. That would be his collection of toenail clippings. But the cap collection wouldn't be far behind.

My collection of peaked caps was closing in on 500 when "the incident" took place while I was away working construction in Labrador paying the bills. It wasn't the final straw that broke the gnu's back but perhaps it should have been. Who knows? All I know is, I am still out nearly 500 hats and some of them were worth $$$. Hey! A Cat Diesel Power hat? You know what kinda pool I had to shoot in a seedy bar in Labrador to win that hat? But, then again, I don't have to put up with "her" anymore so it's cool.

She took my cat too. My only solace is that my cat never liked her. I actually cried over the cat. Her? Not so much.

It's late on Friday night. Nuff said. gnightgnu.

I have about dozen or so "ball caps" -- I've got to sort them out soon. Four felt hats, several "stocking caps" or toques, and two newsboy-style flat caps in wool. And two straws for working in the yard, wearing in summer, and fishing. And a Tilley-style hat I bought for the cruise last July. That's about it. No fedoras, no homburgs, no bowlers, no sombreros, no military patrol caps, no top hats, no stovepipes, no derbies, no beanies, no porkpies, no panamas, no skimmers, no berets, no tyroleans, no helmets, no helms.

I have a dozen or so baseball caps and around a half-dozen knitted toboggans/toques/sock caps/whatever you want to call them. Since the top of my head is a vast expanse of skin, I usually wear a cap so other people won't experience temporary blindness from the reflected glare. Keeps sunburn away too.

AS usual, Rapparree is so fond of shooting his orifice off that he aims it at the wrong target. But yes, a capellophile is one who loves or collects hats.

How many do you have in your closet, Sir Booque?

I have determined that the sensors seem to know what they're doing and are reporting on the correct tire. Which has a slow leak.

Hi, Mom! Do you think anyone ever has written a sonnet about an Easter bonnet? If so, do you think the owner of the bonnet appreciated it, or did she think the writer was a dork? Was the Easter parade their last date?

No, it's not. But it is related. 4 tires x 38 psi each = 152 psi, or 10.6 kgf/cm2. So if all four tires blew at the same time your vehicle would be lifted up. Not very high, but up (assuming the tires blew out when the blow-out spot on each was down). Overinflate your tires enough and you could put your vehicle into orbit.

Sad to hear that, Rap. Good lock with the surgery(s).

That light on the dashboard? Fuck it. Mine came on 4 days after the warranty expired and it's a "Tire pressure sensor fault"! It's still on. My tires are fine. Ford is fucked up. Here is the kicker! A tire pressure sensor fault is nasty because they have to take EACH tire off to check EACH sensor. Fact is, they are gonna take em all off (maybe?) and charge for doing it even if the first one is the bum one. Fuck em. I have had a tire pressure gauge in my glove box since I was 14 and IT works. So does my eyesight and I look at the tires at least every few days. I mean, just look at them when you are walking toward the weehicle. It ain't rocket science.

A light goes on on my dash. This means some tire is underinflated. Then I check the tires and fix the problem or, more likely, it's time to take the car in for service and I let them do it.

Mom, I got bad news yesterday at my annual checkup. I have a hernia on each side and have to have surgery...again...the third time in a year. I see the surgeon tomorrow for a pre-surgery visit and may know more after than, maybe. But you know, Mom, that anesthesia is coooooooool.

You guys can come over here and help reset the tire sensors on my little car. One per tire. It blinks or honks to let you know it worked or where to go next. Pain in the ass to have to run from corner to corner and add or let out air, only two minutes per tire or you have to start over again.

It is a small and twisted sort of quibble, barely worth the patience of peeing through it. There's a simple reason for long-term Mac use. It works better. We use the computer for other things, rather than as an occupation in itself.

This is less true than it once was, but it is still the general rule. UNIX based systems such as OS X work better than (shudder) Windoze.

I am averse to apple products, they're too twee. I've set a bunch of old cables and chargers into the bag I'll drop in the e-waste bin at work. My office is looking better all of the time. I have lots of devices I can't live without, but I have even more bits and bobs left over from devices that I'll never use again. The days of the dedicated charger are long gone, so the chargers need to go as well.

Apple Launches New Product

After succesful introductions of the iMac, iPhone, iPod, iPad and assorted and sundry other "i" products, Apple Inc. has announced the impending launch of the iDon't Need This. Apple's target market for this new product is the hopelessly addicted Apple consumer who cannot successfully relate to any product which doesn't have the Apple logo on it. The iDon't Need This does absolutely nothing, but it does so in a way that the snappy little Apple logo is always on prominent display.

They'll tack a tax increase, except for the wealthy, onto that. Another will allow tax deductions for anyone in the Maritimes who paints the bow of their ship, boat, raft, canoe (over 16 feet), kayak, log, or other water-borne vehicle blue. Still another will permit up to forty (40) other amendments to be added to any bill regardless of the subject matter of the amendments and the original subject of the bill.

Meanwhile, a snippet from up north...

"NDP MP Peter Stoffer wants to put an end to what he calls "headline politics" and limit the government's use of omnibus bills, massive pieces of legislation that wrap up many disparate measures into one long bill.

At a press conference Thursday, Stoffer said omnibus bills prevent members of Parliament and senators from doing their jobs and properly representing the views of their constituents and Canadian taxpayers.

"It shames me to tell my constituents that the money I receive, the pension I get in the future is in many cases under false pretenses because I am not able to do the job that I'm paid to do."

Stoffer has drafted a private member's bill, titled Stop the Bus, would seek to amend the Parliament of Canada Act so governments are barred from packaging unrelated material in omnibus bills.

"Omnibus bills receive very little scrutiny. It's unconscionable that it continues in a democracy," he told CBC News in an interview Wednesday.

"You can't bring in a bill about farming and tack on something about foreign affairs," he said.

The Conservatives have used omnibus bills to change everything from pension contribution rates to the Environmental Assessment Act to refugee health care."

High altitude, No Opening. A specialty of Rapp's.

The scars are diminishing, and that's a good thing, but they itch something turrible.

Stitches come out on Thursday. Then we will see if I end up as Smiling Jack or Scarface...

As you can see my attention has been preempted.

Does it occur to anyone how healthy it would be if an act of Congress were passed requiring that any bill submitted be solely about one issue or decision, with no riders dragging in irrelevant issues from sme other area? THe National Relevancy Act would immediately undo 75% of the tapdancing around who gets what to say about what and to whom.
