WE will be flying back tomorrow, arriving in SLC in time to overnight and go up to Poky Tuesday morning on the shuttle. Then comes the laundry, the bills, the bills, the bills....

Thannk goodness! Otherwise, A would not have been able to visit me. If herself had set foot in my sty, she would have announced that they couldn't stay for long and the eve would have been over before it started. I am a dedicated bastard... er... bachelor. But, in my defense, I told Gabe to keep his sandals on. BTW, is Gabe still alive, A?

I kinda thought that might be the case, Rap, because you generally only mention q****s in context with Pat. But what about Amos's wife? I haven't heard word one that she is travelling along with him to rake other people's lawns?

Huh? Pat's here with me -- got here before I did, as I had a high school and family reunion back-to-back in Illinois beforehand. I flew down to SC to prevent her from buying too many books and q****s. I myself haven't bought anything, as I am conscious of the need to conserve our precious natural resources and know that every printed letter kills another irreplaceable tree AND a baby whale dies.

Where are the distaff Jessup and Doellman units while you two are wandering in the East?

Tomorrow I shall visit Ft. Sumter. I was stationed there some few years back when I was in the Army. I suspect that it's changed a bit since then.

So, Amos -- when are your perambulations going to include Pocatello? Or do you have something against Eiseley and me? We could probably get some folks together to sing hymns or something, maybe even teach you some guitar chords. And Eiseley plays a mean piano -- she learned how when she was playing in a...ah...church, yeah, a church for extra cash for her college education. Be nice and lucky and maybe Penny Pink can give you a busking...or I'll work up the Elks Lodge for you. The Elks might treat you to a beer or something, 'cause they don't got no money.

Last night's star gazing at 4AM was fun. Soneone disabled the streetlight on the blvd in front of my house and the lights on my dead end street are on a series circuit. I thought it was parallel but when I saw the wiring... nevermind.

While you're at Janie's house ask her if she'll join in the Mudcat Secret Santa this year. Jacqui and I are beginning to talk about it.

You may be right about the harshness of the view of the parties under discussion, but they worked very hard to be as offensive to me as possible. Spectacularly unfair in the Mudcat community, in my opinion.

I believe you are judging them a tad over-harshly, dear Stilly, although I am entirely sensible of the symptoms on which you have based your conclusion. However, it is certainly not for me to interfere with the opinions of others, as such formation is the sovereign and God-given right of each individual.

I have raked the lawns and cleared the gutters and dined on fine BBQ and hushpuppies and corn pudding. Most delightful evening.

Tonight we attend Janie's home for deep talk and good food and music. Tomorrow a jam with several local brilliant old-timey musicians.

My delights in this life continue unabated, and I think wandering among friends armed only with music is perhaps the ultimate Destiny for good souls who are in their penultimate steps of enlightenment, just before they manage to jump off the Wheel altogether and find their way into the next Higher Range.

The couple running that pre-Getaway music jam et al - I would have to give them a pass. A more abusive and wacko couple I never experienced before that ill-fated Bob B. obit thread that ran earlier this year that I will not name fully or link to. The mister was positively batshit crazy and wildly abusive. Anyone who can fly off the handle like that needs to be given a wide berth, in my opinion. You take it easy there, Amos, and maybe don't mention that you know who I am.

I am happily ensconced at La Maison de Dani in Hillsborough NAWTH Carolina, the Great North State, the very town where the Revolutionary War began. Today I raked lawns and cleared gutters. Yesterday we had a jam in the morning (free coffee!) at the Depot coffee shop where the freight trains roll by. The night before there was an open mic at the downtown Billsborough bar. It's a lovely, artsy,. inviting sorta town, and I like it. But soon we will depart for Silver Spring (Gene and Sandrolin's pre-Getaway Musick Jam and Poker Circle) and the Getaway proper, three days of spirits both high and fine. Then I bid fond adieu to the East and all its glories.

The food has been excellent. I've got a 72.75% win rate on my iPod's Freecell. I hope to go see CSS Hunley and Ft. Sumter and a tea plantation.

Hmmm. Did I post the story about how he died in the barn?

Anyhoo... the crock pot is simmering on this cold, rainy, windy fall day and "Mom" (sheesh!) and I have reviewed the final injury reports and laid the final bets. With any luck, Dobson will catch, Wilfork will fall forward, Bradford will stand in the pocket, RG3 will fuck up again on what he was taught when he was 8 years old... etc.

Ah, yes. Q***ts. I have some.

Gnu, that sounds like some kind of kinky s** game (to borrow * from Rap) - you ever had maters split on ya over a day after pickin em?

My advice - just freeze them and be done with it! Put them on a shallow baking pan with a rim and freeze them, then roll all of those tomato marbles into a zip lock bag and keep them for later. When you thaw them, the skins will slip off of them easily, you'll be squirting the insides of all of these tomatoes into a pan or bowl. But watch the games - they'll stain the sheets something awful.

IF you're in Fort Sumter you should swing by Hillsboro, Rapp. We're having some excellent musicians over on Sunday.

I joined a guitar circle the other night, and an open Mic last night, at a place called Billsboro, which serves cold Guinness, a favorite of mine.   There's another tonight, at a different place, which we will see what we see at. I am enjoying my visit to Nawth Carolina very much. I could live here happily if it were not for the illiberal Legislature.

Amos won't understand this, but this is how Fargo's 2-bit encryption system works:

Take your normal alphabet, A to Z and the number 0 to 9. Put 'em in a continuous line, then do it again under the first line but offset the characters one notch, with 9 under the A of the original line. Then do the same thing again but with 9 under the B of the top line. Or you can just skip the middle step and put 9 under B. Anyway, it ends up looking something like this:

ABCDE...
89ABC...

You can see how confusing this would be to anyone trying to crack the 2-bit encryption. The word "bad" would come out looking like "98B". But the real beauty of the thing is that you can use it either way: "98B" could be entered as "bad". You even write, "He is a 98B bad man" and nobody would know what you said!

This is all pretty easy with a supercomputer, though.

Sometime this week I'll re-visit my old duty station, Ft. Sumter. I hope that it's in better shape than when I last saw it.

Amos, if Dani needs a Decoder Ring, I'll check with my friend Fargo North. He's in that business. Developed the so-far-unbreakable 2 bit encryption algorithm, he did. I'd explain it to you but it would undoubtedly be too complicated for you to understand.

C4 all his troubles? That would indeed be "interesting".

I received an urgent communication from a lad earlier today enquiring after a delivery that he made to my humble abode whilst the Pats were in the process of thrashing their third opponent of the Yankee Football season. I went fire forward immediately. Normally, I would have fired upon opening the door when being taken away from a Pats game but, when I saw he was bearing gifts, I lowered my weapon. When he said "Mooze and bar clams.", I safetied backward and accepted. I even took time to tell him the score in the Pats game before I said, "I gotta get back to the game. Thanks." and shut the door. His message read, "Try the mooze yet?" Normally, I tell people to "just leave me alone" but I made an exception in this case and responded as follows...

Nope. Beer and chicken wings on Sundays and Mondays (football)*. Tuesday is garbage day upon which all leftovers are eaten or chucked. Wednesday is diet day with fruit & veggies. Thursday is diet day with fruit & veggies and beer (football). Fish on Fridays. So it'll be Saturday at the earliest, later if the weather is warm.

* Week 2, 4, 6... are wing weeks.** Week 1 is chili week as it's always warm enough to open the windows. Week 3, normally Bratwurst, hot Italian, etc sausage week (see week 1 for supporting details) has recently be rescheduled to burger week (BBQ looks possible) as Coop has lean burger for $2.49, Vlassic pickles on 50p off with coupon attached to jar. HINT : The coupons are on old stock (and in my wallet) but the new stock is in the rear of the shelf. Vlassic is USA. Do not support you local Coop brand pickles as they are from India. Note that Coop has the best price on Vidalias.

**Wing weeks may be altered upon a vote by quorum the preceding week but mooze and bar clams are NOT options on accounta I ain't tellin NObody shit! Also, wing weeks may be altered to Sal's Pizza if Sal has the 16 Works pies on for $15. Best buy in town!!! Plus, I can stagger there and back... them there $515 pizzas do not interest me. AND, the buggers are cold by the time ya get yer truck outta impound!

PS RG3 sucks! WHO IN FUCK DUNNO HOW TO TUCK???!!! What the fuck was he doin pretendin ta be a back in the first place? QBs do NOT fall forwrad in open field. I hope the dumb fuck got a hefty club fine fer that shit! Cost me COIN and braggin rights.

PSS Ya like cherry matahs? I might have some extra. Depends on the rain... I lost about 100 last big rain.
**********************************************************

Now, the above may not be quality BS of the calibre of some who grace Mum's Motherthread but it is, nonetheless, bullshit. Quantity is all I have to offer by times, mind. Yer welcome.

If you could be so kind, Rapparee -- which remains to be seen -- would you swing through North Decoder and get Dani a Dakota ring? She needs one for some of the local signals here.

Rapp, I said you deserved a medal, but I also chided you for poor behavior which, IMHO, deserved it. If you want all sunshine and medals, you're gonna have to work just a wee bit harder, but I just know in my heart you can make it if you try.

I yam sorry you won't be at the Getaway, though. I was gonna bring some plastique to put in your magic sawbox thingy.

I even had a couple of group things all ready to go, but alas! it was not to be. One was with the Amazing Amos (songs around magicians and as a finale I was going to saw him in two as he sang and played his guitar) and another with the charming Charmion.

Well, next year. I'll just have to go back to Idaho the end of the week.

He'd NEVER buy a bike. Unless he could get a bullet proof case for that lovely geetar. I approached it and looked at it closely, from a short distance, and then asked if i could touch it. One should never touch another man's instrument without permission. He said, "Sure. Play it if ya want to." I said, "Oh! I wish I could still do that." I checked the action from first fret to last on the biggest and littlest strings by gently poking them every few frets without taking the geetar from it's recline against my living room curtain. Perfection. I looked at A and said, "Nice, man." He replied, "I like it." I smiled, knowing that he would soon again make that action react. He did. Magical evening it was.

I have often thought that I wish I had somehow "videotaped" every kitchen session I ever had whether they me eves of music or just banter so that I could share them with all and sundry. If I had, A and G's visit would be among the top favs. A lot of laughs, good tunes and enlightening conversation. Maybe I shoud try to keep this dump cleaned up so I could accept more visitors... even ladies of the female persuasion. Hmmm... that would require a LOT more housework. I mean, Gabe went barefoot where a lady would not dare to tread!

Y'all are too kind, except Rapparee, who is not quite kind enough with his derivative simulating.

I am sorry to report that I am flying home, else I would be in Fort Worth shortly after the Getaway. I have turned in my little red rental car and hanging out at Dani's this week. Today I am helping organize the basement. There's a guy down the road selling a Harley Wide Glide from 1981 for 8 grand, but it sounds like the sound track to a bad motorcycle gang film. Hillsboro, Nawth Carolina is a grand rown full of angelic sprites like Dani and Janie. Last night she invited a couple of score friends over and we raised the roof some to good effect. Janie's sister Annie even came and played the fiddle, which was a special treat. Mighty good times, mighty good. The Hran is here, next to Dani's banjo, but so far she has stuck to playing the fridge, the range and the skillet. All of which she does exceeding well, I must add.

Rapparee deserves a medal for hauling Mom up from the basement, but then karma is always difficult to figger.
