The daily sunlight is growing, it's beginning to feel like I don't live in a cave. Amos is sounding positively chipper, and Rap sounds like Rap. MOM has been into the wine cellar again. Everything seems about normal.

Ah, Amos. You should drop around more often. But then you live in a state of deeper red than even Sandyego, so I shouldn't expect too much.

Oh, peers, oh, sibs, oh rapturous Sons and Daughters of Mom! A NEW KAY!

Amazing and wonderful to tell! And not even one raggedy-assed ballad to hasten the post! Ah, well I remember the horse races, the rail building, and the long sea voyages that built the breathless anticipation leading up to earlier Kays! But what's MOSTY important is that we made the Kay, staggering on breathless and starving through sleet andf dark of night and all that other stuff one has to stagger on through in pursuit of truly noble goals. Well done, comrades!

I was announcing Bee-Dub's achievement, not one of my own.

When you're pouncing on a big number you need several screens open at once with the messages all ready to go. Rap spent too much time on his html. #LiveAndLearn

Rap, you just wasted all those big red letters on 57,001, not 57,000. But I suppose that's okay. 57,001 had never been done before either....

Curses! Forced to take 57,000 after all! I don't want it. I suppose I could try to trade it on Craig's List for something more useful.

57,000!
Fifty Seven Thousand!!
Never before has this been done, and it never will be done again!

57,000 is so round and common. I'll take 56,999 any day.

Golly Gosh! This number's Prime!
Only divisible by itself and one!
Now this poem's completely done!

Oven? Why would you run the microwave when you're not using it? Besides, it would shut off when you opened the door, so if you put a potato in it to bake it wouldn't be on because the door was opened. Unless you mean...you have one of those beehive things that you heat with wood or cow chips in your back yard?

Indeed! To both the problem of pre-timed smoky popcorn and the flames that will smoke up the house when the candles are lit on Rap's cake.

I do sometimes use the baked potato pre-set, but I prefer them baked in the oven when I have time and the oven's already on.

Yes, our new microwave also beeps periodically if what's in it hasn't been removed. I like that feature 'cause, without it, I'll find those old cups of coffee too. I just don't understand the beep-when-opening-the-door thing.

And I don't like that the defrost function pauses midway to "allow you to turn over" whatever you're defrosting. I don't turn things I'm defrosting over. Maybe if I were defrosting a whole pig, but not two pork chops. So, I've taken to setting the timer for twice as long as needed. Then, when the microwave does its midway pause, the food's defrosted.

And, as far as I'm concerned, they could all do away with those food-specific presets like "POPCORN". The times preset into them never agree with the times specified on the products' boxes. The brand of popcorn we use nukes up perfectly in two minutes, but the oven's preset is for 3.5 minutes. I only use it if I'm in the mood for burnt popcorn and a smoky house.

Hey, Bee-Dub, we had a microwave that my other half didn't like because it kept beeping periodically until you retrieved whatever you'd put in it. The one I use now doesn't do that, which is why too often I open it to put in a portion of a meal and see that THAT'S where the cup got to that I was looking for, that has now stood overnight with the cold tea that needed reheating.

I'm glad to hear that Amos is again playing in low dives for beer money, cheap eats, and a ride out of town in something other than a police car. Maybe if he gets good enough he'll be allowed to play in a higher class place, like Madam Maud's House just outside of Hillsborough.

Arguing with the manufacturer's programmers is like debating parenthood with God--it runs on, just as it would anyway, no matter what you say, and especially no matter how right you are.

This is a lesson all good consumers must learn.

Meanwhile, I am doing fine for the nonce, and vice-verdsa, having been off chemo for weeks. But I resume the infusion calendar Monday AM so I may be in for more bumps and grinds in the divine mill. We shall see.

DId a two-hour gig Thursday night in the nearby town of Graham, which pleased the diners. And earned me beer money! Yay for that.

And that's the way it goes--the ordinary keeps on raising its ugly head until the extraordinary intervenes unpredictably. Keep on breathing!

Hi, Mom!

We recently replaced our microwave oven. The new one beeps three times when the cooking job is finished and once more when the door is opened. Why does it beep when the door is opened? Does it think I need to be reminded that I'm opening the door?

It's sorta like Windows 10 incessantly reminding me that the program I'm using is in full-screen mode. Thanks, Mr. Microsoft, but I'm the one who put the damned thing in full-screen mode! It didn't get that way be itself! Why do I need to be reminded?

"That hurts." "Yeah. It's like a paper cut, Dora." "No it's NOT. It hurts!" I say, "Maybe, if you just dab the wound instead of wiping it, there won't be such pain." "Well, I HAVE to clean the wound."

Now, if the previous three nurses could do it right, do I have the right to smack this no-mind callous bitch up-side the head? She's part of the reason Mum's 'wounds' deteriorated to the point that, three nurses ago, the doc had to be consulted with pics and measurements. I seriously wanna smack this incompetent twit.

Anyway, Mum is full of roast beef dinner and cheesecake and I hope she gets some sleep tonight. Nurse ****wit is (maybe... ya never know who will arrive - 13 different nurses since August) supposed to be here tomorrow. Dog give me the strength to refrain.

Yup, Rap really is the book wizard. Even his instant preliminary response reveals the past like a unique telescope. I also believe these Mayan discovery, original documents still exist. A Metropolitan Mayan civilization now looks to have been 30 million strong in northern Guatemala.

Also LIDAR of Angor Wat is a must see.

In the last 10 years archeological anthropology has been expanded back another half million years for modern sapiens and the fictional X ray glasses to see their homes, are now a LIDAR reality.

Rapparee, all I have is the name Diesedorff in Guatemala 100 -159 years ago. He was an archeologist from Germany investigating Mayan ruins and whose son founded the Dieseldorff coffee plantation around the time of WWII.

Lidar has revealed 1000's more ancient villages in Guatemala.
What I am wondering is if Dieseldorf wrote any books on his early discoveries in German, Spanish or English.

If possible could you find any more clues for me to follow ???

Mom, the Super Bowel is over. The whatchamacallits won, beating the other team (whoever they were) by a margin big enough to win by. There were some good plays, too: I liked the one where there was a penalty kick at the wicket which the bowler trumped with his hurley which led the opposing coach to claim it had gone foul and they needed to pick up the 7-10 split at the blue line. Quite a game, all in all.

Hi, Mom!

I just bought a new van. I like everything about it except the ignition key. The blade is wide and squared off (like this) which makes it totally useless for ear scratching. Do car makers not realize that the traditional pointed car key is the leading choice for aural hygiene among older males? Equipping cars with odd-shaped or electronic keys means more geezers will be driving around with impaired hearing due to ear wax buildup! They'll be dangers to us all! Support highway safety! Bring back good old-fashioned car keys!

Oh, how I envy you, gnu! Whilst our mountains have much snow, we in the lower altitudes are enjoying the bounty of our palm and banana trees. The "International Portneuf Big Waves" surfing contest started yesterday and town is full of talk about "shredding it" and "cylinder ride" and such. You can't get a mai tai anywhere without running into surferfolk. They run around in their rash guards and surf shorts, buying out all the beer in the stores. How I wish the weather would turn cold -- the skiers at least stay on their mountains!

Amos is right. "Momentous" was an odd word choice. It usually refers to occurrences, not things. The act of rhyming "headed for the deep six" with "circumcising sheep dicks" was a momentous occurrence. The rhyme itself is merely stupendous.
