Rules of acquisition #59418 applies. The solution to this conundrum, now solved, proved more complex to me than time travel.

You may also recall that there was a period when Mudcat had radio silence for a week or more and we lost several thousand posts. I was amused when admin office coworkers, diligently comparing my work hours to the times that I posted on Mudcat (because Songwronger was trying to cause mischief) that when they came to the several weeks of no posts (they'd printed out my post history, just as Songwronger told them how) there was a question mark in red ink at the gap. I didn't explain to them about the great schism while they were poking around in my Mudcat history, suggest they should examine their own Facebook history while at work. Oh, they found that I hadn't, in fact, written any derogatory or abusive things about my employers (that was what took them to Mudcat to begin with). But I was still banned from using Mudcat during the day at work, while they still use Facebook. The Ferengi took over this department in 2012. I'm planning my escape.

We have not risen to Acme's State of Knowing and Seeing. She is our Guru, our Kahuna.

But I haven't been around, so I just wanted to bring Mom up to date. The door installation is done, and the new entranceway from the garage is operational -- we had a good contractor and he made light of the re-routing and step building and all. He finished today and the painters are here now (Pat: "So Art, when can you start?" Art: "This afternoon."). I found a cheap 410 shotgun for Sassy, went to the podiatrist yesterday, and just dropped off a food donation. And yesterday evening we went to Irish Language class.

Your fave kid,
R

My wife and I are working our way through the entire six seasons of the television series "Lost" at a rate of two or three episodes per evening. We are currently in season four, wherein our usual ways of relating to time are proving to be quaint conventions. Being mentally immersed in a fictional world of temporal weirdness, I see no problem with Acme reading 59,481 posts where only 57,164 exist. The other 2,317 posts do exist, we just can't detect them with our defective equipment.

There are a few spam posts that were deleted; they're still in the thread, just not on the screen so they're still in the count. I actually (accidentally) used the thread ID, not the post count, but even the post count probably is more than you can actually read if you start at the beginning. Someone read through and give it a count, you'll see what I mean.

What kind of hummingbirds do you get in Colorado, Rapparee?
Are they the kind that look like LasVegas showgirls in sequins?
(the garish splash of color at the throat, the show-off acrobatics)
or are they the plainer-plumaged hummers that don't show up much
in the eastern US?

I saw some of the latter in New Mexico.

Well, considering that my computer screen says Mom's current post count is 57,164, reading 59,481 posts would be quite an accomplishment. Of course, if you were to start reading now, the post count might well be 59,481 by the time you're finished.

Depends on how fast you read. And whether or not Gluon leaves the space-time continuum alone.

I have to get the flower troughs up first. They should be arriving in a couple of weeks, and the porch/deck should be set up before that. I'm going to plant lots of red and blue flowers again. Two years in a row I've gotten some good pictures of the hummers.

Now that Ostara is past and Thrimilci to come, we must parbligate. This shouldn't be difficult as the hufflings will soon be up and wide awake, giving color to the astorage among the trees. Remember that Mom says not to harm them, and she's right (as usual) as they help parbligation. This year, more than ever, we need to do this! So bake your pirnikle and get ready!

I was examining my brother's then-new shotgun and up toddled his son, very new to walking and talking. He said to me, "Daddy's tools. Don't touch." Later, his mother and grandmother were working on something together and the young one said what sounded like, "Otdamsobish!" Grandma: "Did he say what I think he said?" Mother: "I think he's either going to grow to like the taste of soap or his father's going to clean up his act."

My brother and his wife were older parents.

That's the first step, K!

One day this week I realized it was my mom's birthday, but she passed away many years ago. A sad moment of reflection followed, but also the realization that she would be pleased as punch at how her grandchildren have turned out. So much I would have liked to have shared over these years.

A friend of mine tried for many years to have a child, and 15 months ago finally delivered a healthy little girl. It has been a delight to watch her navigate the challenges of parenthood, and as an older parent starting out, she had thought about this a lot and done her research. Easter for a toddler - the eggs held many things but few had candy. She is my hairdresser, and several times a year her tip is in the form of a handful of the one dollar coins because she likes to put those in Easter eggs also.

I have been authorized by the Idaho Legion to release the following:

Using its proprietary and tippy-top secret non-violent, wildlife friendly, free range, all-natural, energy-conserving "Push 'Em Away" technological breakthrough, the Idaho Legion is proud to announce that the "Chinese Satellite" has been diverted to a crash-and-burn landing in the South Pacific Ocean.

As far as is known, no animals were harmed in this saving of the planet Earth, although several houses near the Legion Hovel had to be evacuated and the local fire department was forced to deploy several very large smoke extractors due to a stench in the area of the Hovel.

Anyone wishing to contribute to this technology is urged to send bottles and bottles of minty-flavored mouthwash to the Idaho Legion.

Just a quiet day here. Had the usual Easter dinner, no eggs. Not even chocolate (we finished the chocolates yesterday). No peeps, not fried or microwaved or roasted or raw. Just lots and lots of laundry. And oh yes, I gave treats to the dogs next door twice and the pit bull (brown, Maggie) was quite happy about it.

I did have my renewal class for a Concealed Carry permit yesterday (I don't have to take it, but it reminds me of the responsibilities of owning firearms). Part of it was to shoot 98 (legislature mandated: not 100, not 95, but 98) rounds. The class ran from 8 am to 4:30 pm, most of which was class time. But in the shooting part the targets were only at about 20 feet. So I shot out the bulls-eye, turned in my target and went home, while other students gaped. I have no plans at all to carry a concealed weapon save for my razor-sharp wit. As I said, I take the course for reasons different than most.

Well, Mom, we had an eventful Easter egg hunt. An overzealous young egg hunter mistakenly shot what appeared to be the Easter Bunny, thinking it was an elaborately decorated egg. But, upon closer inspection, it turned out to be the White Rabbit from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. So, it looks like we'll be able to have Easter again next year, though the exact repercussions of the White Rabbit's demise for Lewis Carroll fans and scholars are unclear.

Anyway, we harvested a few dozen good-sized Easter eggs and the guys are busy gutting and skinning them as we speak. Looks like it's gonna be egg salad and rabbit stew for supper.

Happy Easter, Mom!

We are preparing for our annual Easter egg hunt. The guns are all cleaned and loaded, ready to do battle with the vicious little multi-colored bastards.

I must admit to being a bit concerned about this year's hunt. I gave the .270 Weatherby to my nephew, so I don't have any high-powered rifles. But I have 12 gauge shotguns loaded with 00 buckshot and rifled slugs. Hopefully, they'll do the job. If not, I may be making my next post from a hospital bed.

Dear Mom,

In the year 2000, virtually the entire population of the world was plagued by the question, "Who let the dogs out?" It was hard to work in an office. ride a bus, or walk down the street without someone asking "Who let the dogs out?"   Well, after eighteen years of silence on the matter, I have decided to unburden my soul and admit that it was, in fact, I who let them out. All of 'em. Big dogs and little dogs. Dachshunds and Dalmatians. I just opened the doors and let 'em out!

There, I feel much better now.

Don, please examine the last few lines of that epic poem:

We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I think this speaks directly to the old fart contingent keeping MOM abreast of events in the world. We may not have the muscle of our younger days, be we have the endurance and the will.

Speaking of which, I hope Amos drops in soon to share his exploits in the heroic heart vs nasty ol' cancer wars.

Dear People of The Mudcat Cafe,

As you can see, I am not a member of your, purportedly, folk music forum. I am, in fact, the wife of one of your members - a fellow who calls himself "Bee-dubya-ell". I am posting here to ask you to please release my poor husband from the peculiar power that this particular thread, "The Mother of All BS Threads" seems to exert over him.

It all began about a week ago when I began to hear keystrokes and chuckles coming from the other room. Within a few nights the chuckles had been replaced by sounds similar to those emitted by a braying jackass. Then, just a couple of nights ago, I heard an uproar and went to investigate, only to find that my poor husband had flung open the front door and was rolling in the leaf litter while laughing uncontrollably. Well, at that point, I made him show me this particular thread and I must admit to having read the first hundred or so posts. However, I absolutely fail to see what the attraction is. Some wacko from Tupelo pretending to be a king. A fellow Hoosier who unmercifully slaughters the English language. A Canadian who worships William Shatner. A San Diegan that only William F. Buckley could understand. And what in the hell is a Spaw? The only participant who seems to have any sense is Artbrooks who, incidentally, is the only one whom I have actually met in the flesh.

Even after reading this exercise in extended drivel I was willing to just accept that my husband's apparent fixation on this thread is relatively harmless... until last night. My poor husband came to bed at about two o'clock in the morning with an idiot grin on his face and immediately fell asleep. Within minutes he began to have nightmares and cry out in his sleep, "Buzzards! Porta-potties! Ducks! Coots! Sea gulls! Armadillos! Walmart! Lariat! Idjit! Bullshit!". I tried to wake him, but to no avail. I shook him vigorously only to have him mutter, "Nor of things!" or something like that.

People, I am at the end of my rope. I am afraid that if this behavior on the part of my once normal husband does not cease I may be forced to take drastic action. I noticed from what I did read of this thread that some forum members have apparently found cures for their bizarre behaviors at someplace called the NYCFTTS, whatever that stands for. If you think my husband could benefit from a brief stay there, please send details.

Thank you for your indulgence.

Mrs. Bee

I believe;
to have a friend, a man must be one.
that all men are created equal and that everyone has within himself the power to make this a better world.
that God put the firewood there, but that every man must gather and light it himself.
in being prepared physically, mentally, and morally to fight when necessary for that which is right.
that a man should make the most of what equipment he has.
that 'this government of the people, by the people, and for the people' shall live always.
that men should live by the rule of what is best for the greatest number.
that sooner or later...somewhere...somehow...we must settle with the world and make payment for what we have taken.
that all things change but truth, and that truth alone, lives on forever.
in my Creator, my country, my fellow man.

If only what we all need is a reminder of great mythic heroism in our lives and in our past, then we would have seen the heroism and true human emotion of Obama and not selected a licentious automaton couch potato for a replacement.

In an amoral world heroism is reduced to a number, an AR-15, an accomplishment without cause, without reason like the Los Vegas 60.

Competition won or lost has rendered even evil banal. If won the ends justify the means and if lost, it wasn't fair.

We the sane few see the diseased insane patients declaring the doctors fatally ill. As in mythic times we will pay with our lives but all our current words lost in an electromagnetic burst.

In the real world the bizarreness has reached a crescendo that has cracked the sky wide open. After a hapless self sabotage of the King's legal wench matters, finally the King's lawyer's, lawyer's lawyer may have blundered into a case with standing and a real possibility of winning after being nearly pecked to death in court.

The inspired devised lawsuit is to sue God. Although God is a flight risk when the dust settles, the King can be found blameless.

For those who buy into God (caveat emptor) there is a phrase that holds the world of man and insurance companies free of all responsibility. The King's 'Crack' legal team is currently researching to find that phrase and statute but as of yet to no avail.

Please send money to the King's defensefund.com

I am constantly reminded of the brilliantly wise choice I made in choosing Sir Tweed as my Royal KOTROT & First Duck!
It is apparent That he studies my every proclamation word for word with his razor sharp insight to be certain that he understands his King's intents & wishes.

How sharp he is to immediately catch the subliminal message in my lowercase "ilk"!!!

Truly, I was temporarily tempted to remove the title of "KNOWER OF THINGS" from that fupped duck idiot BWL & bestow it upon the deserving Tweed!

However, I perceived the gratitude of BWL when he received a simple,
yet meaningful bit of attention from his King! Therefore, I will allow BWL to keep his esteemed position!
