well Mom, I'm off to go yell at the phone company (now in my fourth day of no service at the house) - the guy never showed last night.

Which is much more tasteful (though not as tasty as:)

Beautiful Soup, so rich and green,
Waiting in a hot tureen!
Who for such dainties would not stoop?
Soup of the evening, beautiful Soup!
Soup of the evening, beautiful Soup!
      Beau—ootiful Soo—oop!
      Beau—ootiful Soo—oop!
Soo—oop of the e—e—evening,
      Beautiful, beautiful Soup!

"Beautiful Soup! Who cares for fish,
Game, or any other dish?
Who would not give all else for two
pennyworth only of beautiful Soup?
Pennyworth only of beautiful Soup?
      Beau—ootiful Soo—oop!
      Beau—ootiful Soo—oop!
Soo—oop of the e—e—evening,
      Beautiful, beauti—FUL SOUP!"

They may not taste good, but I am told they have good taste;

Except occasionally they insist upon a Quadrille. with Lobsters.

"Will you walk a little faster?" said a whiting to a snail.
"There's a porpoise close behind us, and he's treading on my tail.
See how eagerly the lobsters and the turtles all advance!
They are waiting on the shingle - will you come and join the dance?
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, will you join the dance?
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, won't you join the dance?

"You can really have no notion how delightful it will be
When they take us up and throw us, with the lobsters, out to sea!"
But the snail replied "Too far, too far!" and gave a look askance -
Said he thanked the whiting kindly, but he would not join the dance.
Would not, could not, would not, could not, would not join the dance.
Would not, could not, would not, could not, could not join the dance.

"What matters it how far we go?" his scaly friend replied.
"There is another shore, you know, upon the other side.
The further off from England the nearer is to France -
Then turn not pale, beloved snail, but come and join the dance.
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, will you join the dance?
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, won't you join the dance?"

YEs, they are rare, and they glisten in the moonlight like mackerel; but they do NOT taste good and are not good for the brain.

Maybe *you* will "gracefully leap the hurdle" - but I think I'll just walk around it. Too much effort to leap.

and I've been meaning to ask, who built the dang obstacle course between here and 18500? Please, after the hurdle is another obstacle every post or so.

A Piranha tank? a tablefull of Micky-D food blocking the way! And what's with the "Complete Postings of Former Mudcat Members" with the sign on it marker "Read me"?

It won't be long until we gracefully leap the hurdle of eighteen thousand five hundred posts, and come around the long turn for the home stretch into 19K. This is truly AWE-INSPIRING!!!!

And a sharp-shooter shovel, I hope. Makes the job easier.
If I could train my dogs to dig where I want them to dig instead of where they feel like digging I'd never have to till or dig a garden again. And they do it for fun!

Cinnamon chased a possum up on the fence last night. I had to go thump it with a branch to get it to move along and out of sight or I was going to have this dog pestering the neighborhood all night. I found a spot in a different (dog free) part of the yard this morning where the dopey critter apparently thought he'd come to a barrier (the fence) so decided to try digging under--until he figured out to move over 18 inches and go around the end of it. . .

I have a small garden tiller (electric) which can be converted to dig a trench. I'll let it to you if you come get it and bring it back as soon as you're done.

Mom, yesterday I brought home a whole kit of equipment for inspecting pipes and such and ran an inspection camera with color-TV-display through the whole sewer system of our house. I realize sewers are not the ordinary topic of polite conversation, and some would not feel particularly interested in them, but it was really interesting to inspect the inside of the sewer by remote camera, see where the new piece had been out in five years ago, and very satisfying to notice that there were no significant chokes or blockages through the whole length down to the city's connector.

Then I went down and bought 100 feet of 1/2" sprinkler line and about 50 assorted joints and couplings to exptend the sprinkler system. I delight in mucking about with such things but I really do not want to dig the trench I will have to dig. But I will anyway, 'cause that's how you waised us.

I remember you saying to me when I was very small, and have never forgotten it:

When you get up to it,
And you cannot do it,
Then there you jolly well are....aren't you?

Thanks for that life-lesson, Mom. You're the best.

We were buddies once upon a time
And then you took off on your social climb
But fortune only brought you misery
And now you're cryin' out for sympathy

Well, it's lonely at the top
Yea, it's lonely at the top
Well, if this workin' man were you
He'd just enjoy the view
'Cause it's lonely at the bottom too
Lonely at the bottom too

You're livin' high on easy street
And we're just tryin' to make ends meet
If you get tired of the grind
We'll I'll take your place and buddy you take mine

Well, it's lonely at the top
Yea, it's lonely at the top
Well, if this workin' man were you
He'd just enjoy the view
'Cause it's lonely at the bottom too
Lonely at the bottom too

Like a kitten in the neighbor's tree
Climbin' up to see what you could see
Now you're cryin', 'cause you need some help
Well, everybody's got to help themselves

Well, it's lonely at the top
Yea, it's lonely at the top
Well, if this workin' man were you
He'd just enjoy the view
'Cause it's lonely at the bottom too
Lonely at the bottom too

Or was it the bootom of a bootle?

Bottom Of A Bottle

Been scared and lonely
I've asked myself
Is something wrong with you
My girlfriend told me
I need some time alone to deal with issues

But something makes me carry on
It's difficult to understand
What I always wanna find

I do it for the drugs
I do it just to feel alive
I do it for the love
That I get from the bottom
Of a bottle

You always call me
And ask me how I make it throught the day
I'm always fallin
I guess it's just god's way of
Making me pay

But something makes me carry on
It's difficult to understand
What I always wanna find

I do it for the drugs
I do it just to feel alive
I do it for the love
That I get from the bottom
Of a bottle

I do it for the drugs
I do it just to feel alive
I do it for the love
That I get from the bottom
Of a bottle

And I,
I wonder why I try
And I,
I wonder why I bother
And I,
I wonder why I cry
Why I,
I go through all this trouble

I do it for the drugs
I do it just to feel alive
I do it for the love
That I get from the bottom
Of a bottle

I do it for the drugs
I do it just to feel alive
I do it for the love
That I get from the bottom
Of a bottle

Why, Mom, are you so near the bottom?
Why mingle with riff-raff like these?
The loos they are filthy, the beer it is worse --
Do you like the pretzels and cheese?

Why, Mom, are you so near the bottom?
Could it be that nobody cares?
You could get mugged right here at the bar --
Come home with me now back upstairs.

Why, Mom, are you so near the bottom?
Amos has searched through the night!
You know that we miss you and love you --
My goodness! Your hair is a fright.

Why, Mom, are you so near the bottom?
We'll fix a good dinner at home!
There's naught but the dregs of society here --
They'd put you 'neath six feet of loam.

Come, Mom, arise to your bower,
And promise you'll never more roam.
Yes, take the beer with you, dear Mater --
Even though it's nearly all foam.

(San Diego de la Verga: Prensa de Polo, 1752)

Our elected officials ( the best that money can buy) have been known to tell the truth on occasion. I heard one actually state that he saw daylight, DURING THE DAY, once.

Besides, the politions that one support ALWAYS tell the truth. It is the opposing ones that always lie.... BOTH sides agree on this, so it must be true.
