Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Rapparee Date: 01 Mar 11 - 11:27 PM So I spoke with my youngest brother last night and he said he was coming down with bronchitis. Today he went to the doctor, from the doctor the ER in an ambulance, where he coded. Now he's in Cardiac Intensive Care in piss poor condition. My uncle dies, my wife has breast cancer, and now this. This is, truly, the year we must remember to forget. In fact, I'd like to reboot and start over. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Mar 11 - 12:51 AM Aw, Mike. I know some years are just like this. I had one a while back and it was a game-changer, to be sure. Good thing he went to see his doctor, and good thing they got him to intensive care. Now he needs to get better. Let's hope it's not quite so long an episode as Spaw's recent experience. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Rapparee Date: 02 Mar 11 - 08:51 AM Well, one way or the other he'll stop smoking...hmmm, knowing him only if he makes it through. (You can say things like that about your brothers.) Anyone of any relationship between pulmonary edema and ischemic heart disease? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Amos Date: 02 Mar 11 - 01:55 PM My sympathy, Rapp. I suppose this is a passage either I or my sibs will have to face sooner or later. As to your question, it seems it would make sense, but I don't know of any. A |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: gnu Date: 02 Mar 11 - 02:51 PM Sorry to hear that Rap. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Rapparee Date: 02 Mar 11 - 04:33 PM He's (physically) stable but still in bad shape, according to the last I heard. I mean, he DOES have a BFA in TheatRE and all that. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Amos Date: 02 Mar 11 - 05:17 PM Let us hope they don't try to give him a histriotomy. |

Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Eiseley Date: 02 Mar 11 - 09:19 PM I'm sorry about your brother, Rapparee. This has been a pretty harrowing year---from last March to this, actually. Maybe the tide is about to turn. I hope. I just returned from a library trip across the state. It is warmer in Boise. Eiseley |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Rapparee Date: 02 Mar 11 - 10:59 PM I just returned from a 6-day trip to Yellowstone. It was colder there. My little brother is in a medically induced hypothermic coma, but he did respond to a request to blink his eyes. They are slowly warming him up and at 96F they should be getting an idea of any brain damage. (My other brother asked me "How do you suppose they could tell if there was any?" and I replied, "That's why they're highly paid physicians." We can do that to each other.) I wanna start 2011 over, okay? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Rapparee Date: 03 Mar 11 - 09:11 AM I can hear it now. My brother awakens and there is great joy. Someone asks him, "Did you see heaven? How was it?" And he answers, "A lot colder than I thought it would be." That really is the sort of thing he'd say. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Amos Date: 03 Mar 11 - 10:21 AM inquiline (n. & adj.) (1) A sojourner, a lodger, an indweller. (2) An animal which lives in the nest or abode of another; a commensal or guest. The thread was rife with the incursions of various inquilines who failed to grasp the weltanschauung of Mom and her children. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Amos Date: 03 Mar 11 - 04:13 PM I guess it was the follerin' mornin' That old Rapp lost his mind We'd one hundred twenty posts to make And miles of ice behind. It was hard to tell, in that hurtlin' wind We was all of us snow-blinded When we asked Raparre to take the lead And no-one thought he minded. He moved his rig ahead of us All careful, fair and nice, An' cracked his bull-whip over the dogs And headed down the ice. We heard him over the howlin' wind, Yelling "Koo!! Calloo! Callay!!" An' were hard put keeping sight of him On the trail to the next of Kay. |

Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Amos Date: 03 Mar 11 - 11:06 PM It's been a rough few days; they get more frequent as we all slide toward the Great Cascade at the edge of the world. A |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Mar 11 - 11:16 PM This month you can get away without changing the calendar from February. Draw on three more boxes at the end and you're set! I hope your brother is warming up safely, Rap. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Janie Date: 04 Mar 11 - 12:10 AM Ain't that the truth, Amos. Quoted so often as to seem trite, but still as true as however true is. Let us therefore live one day at a time. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Amos Date: 04 Mar 11 - 12:34 PM Get warm, bro, and start cracking wise; We need you to do more than blink yer eyes. Heal what's awry and step to the plate; The world is patient, but love won't wait. Bring yourself back into the scene, young brother, Dancer and wiseacre, parent or lover. The world will not stop its going 'round And you must make her stable ground, Safe for the growing out of harm. Get warm, get warm. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Amos Date: 04 Mar 11 - 05:16 PM I came back and looked at that last post after a decent interval and am sorry to say it is really poorly executed. I can only say that the impulse was good, anyway. A |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Stilly River Sage Date: 04 Mar 11 - 05:21 PM Maybe some spacing and a few notes - sung it might not feel the same as spoken, don't you think? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Little Hawk Date: 04 Mar 11 - 05:34 PM Well, at least it was not overflowing with the sort of gratuitous superfluous tautological verbiage you usually inflict upon us, Amos. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Eiseley Date: 04 Mar 11 - 06:54 PM I spent all day yesterday and most of the day today putting the new book bins in place. They are beautiful! They are child-height and have room to face the picture books outward so the artwork on the cover will show. Whew! After rearranging the furniture and plotting the layout, I'm ready for a long nap. I'm thinking about your brother, Rap. I can't remember if it is Ted or Tony who is the youngest. My best to you. Eiseley |
Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Rapparee Date: 04 Mar 11 - 07:04 PM It's Ted. I've had no news since 8 a.m. |

Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Rapparee Date: 04 Mar 11 - 09:43 PM No change: still on dialysis, still has lower-than-desired BP, still will respond to voice commands (blink your eyes, etc.), still unconscious, still wired and tubes in nearly every natural orifice. |

Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Eiseley Date: 05 Mar 11 - 11:51 AM I'm so sorry, Mike Kathryn To Charles Williams Your death blows a strange bugle call, friend, and all is hard To see plainly or record truly. The new light imposes change, Re-adjusts all a life-landscape as it thrusts down its probe from the sky, To create shadows, to reveal waters, to erect hills and deepen glens. The slant alters. I can't see the old contours. It's a larger world Than I once thought it. I wince, caught in the bleak air that blows on the ridge. Is it the first sting of the great winter, the world-waning? Or the cold of spring? A hard question and worth talking a whole night on. But with whom? Of whom now can I ask guidance? With what friend concerning your death Is it worth while to exchange thoughts unless—oh unless it were you? C.S. Lewis |

Subject: RE: BS: The Mother of all BS threads From: Rapparee Date: 05 Mar 11 - 09:52 PM We leave tomorrow, flying out of SLC at 2:05 for St. Louie, where we'll rent a car. We'll be gone for a week (Amos, the cops are watching the house while we're gone -- just a word to the wise). I'll be checking in periodically. What I did not mention in the other thread is his ability to hash songs into extremely funny parodies. E.g., He drove his car to the racing ground He was the only driver there. does in "Tell Laura I Love Her". I wish I could remember all of them. |
