The only reason I even know of Honey Boo Boo and her family is from a Mudcat thread a few years back. If memory serves, Bobert and Spaw were going on about it. I have never seen the program.

And the rich and famous may have a fondness for powdered cocaine, but it's the poor and disreputable who smoke the crack/rock variety.

You can never be too rich, famous, beautiful and thin.

She isn't any of them, and this news is actually rather refreshing, after the fuss that seemed to be made over that family of delinquents. It's called "comeuppance."

Well, that's nice. Has this "genius" done anything? Have the parents (I assume there is more than one)? But most importantly, why should we care?

Mama June is a rare left side only super model

That's confusing, it could be taken 2 different ways.

A honey boo boo is the adorable genius daughter of a Tennessee Super Model.

Gee, yesterday was fun. Why, I hadn't thrown up in weeks and weeks and weeks!

Who or what is a Honey Boo Boo? A wound caused by bee vomit? What Yogi Bear calls his little friend during intimate moments?

That's why the rich and famous need cocaine to maintain.

Mama June ought to have jumped the fence,
like the last Bachelor.

Oh dear, Mom, I was so shocked to hear of the arrest of reality TV star Mama June, mother of Honey Boo Boo, on crack cocaine possession charges! I thought reality TV personalities were all law-abiding, intelligent, well-educated, and highly responsible individuals! I wonder what the other members of Mama June's Mensa chapter think of her arrest?

Mom!

Camel hair coats are noted for their warmth and their ability to shed water, right? But why should camel hair be warm and water repellent? Camels live in the frigging desert where it's hot and it never rains!

THIS is what happens when goddesses are crossed. They treat Floribama as if it were Califoria.

I shall make the burnt offering tomorrow. And if it's too wet for the offering (a pile of cut-down limbs and saplings) to burn, I shall use the chipper-shredder and make a shredded offering instead.

How come all recent pictures of goddesses are young, lithe, long-legged, long-haired, scantily clad or clingy clad? Even those of war goddesses, like Athena and the Morrigan.

My head surgery went well. A fairly large cyst was removed; apparently it formed where my mother dropped me on my head when I was a baby. (True! It took me three hours to crawl home, where I was greeted with "Oh. It's you.")

Get your goddesses straight or Diana may come by and give you a whack with one of the boughs from her little forest.

The birth of Athena who sprang from the forehead of Zeus was known as the greatest headache of all time. The single smartest Goddess sprang from the 3rd eye in Zeus' forehead fully formed dressed in amour and sword and shield. Ouch.

Zeus did not have room for the intelligence in his tiny skull.
The only place on Earth you can still see Athena is Nashville TN.,
a place in extreme need of intelligence. Athena

Of course it was Athena who sprang from Zeus's forehead. I was in somewhat of a state of shock about Amos and got my goddesses crossed. And crossed goddesses are nothing to shake a stick at. Perhaps that's why we've been having minor earthquakes here in Northwest Bubbaland. I should probably do the burnt offering thing to placate them.

Yes, Mom, I am still around. I have been very busy this past week and tomorrow, at 10 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time, a doctor is going to cut into my head. Well, my forehead actually. To remove what he believes is a lipodema and I think is an incipient horn which will to turn me into a unicorn. I will almost certainly be left with a scar and I will tell everyone that I got it in a duel when I was in school at Heidelberg. I won't even be sedated, just given a local anesthetic and I'll drive myself home.

His Imperious Rapness is right, you know.

Venus, now, she did not spring from the forehead of Jupiter or Zeus.
As Botticelli showed us,
she emerged from the sea balancing on a scallop seashell
with all these nymphs and cupids filling up the picture frame.

Athena, not Venus. Venus was one of those -- Roman, you know. Aphrodite would have been properly Greek. But it was Athena who gave Zeus the headache.

While Amos will be sorely missed here on the MOAB, he did leave behind progeny (of a sort). Let us not forget that Gluon the Duckdog, cosmic voyager, space-time warper, and leg-humper extraordinaire was the creation of Mr. Jessup. While it's doubtful that Gluon emerged fully-formed from Amos's noggin in the same dramatic fashion as Venus springing from the forehead of Zeus, it was probably in that same general conceptual arena.

So, when you see a QUARK!!!, think fondly of Amos.

And Zeus was just a big show-off anyway.

So, Amos' cousin got bedded on the couch in my living room. I said to Amos, "You're sleeping in the basement." He asked, rather indignantly IMO, "Is it a real bed?" I eyed him up and down in slow and measured fashion and said, "You'll fit." THAT shut him up. Heheheheee! But, he got a nice bed, a good sleep, his own washroom, a morning shower, and a hearty breakfast. We NBers treat company well... same as everyone else.

He had several poetry and song challenge threads as well, agreed. I have some clues to work from—we exchanged emails or PMs about the ones I was pulling up for him, so I can go expose them (and while I'm at it, save a copy for family who might be interested, if he didn't do that already himself.)

Time to step up the game - I've coasted here for years, adding to the post count while enjoying others' posts but not shoveling in much BS. I'll work on it.

I would not emphasize the quantity but rather the quality,
One of his recent offerings was about Cosmology that was exciting, organic and beautifully mysterious. I call it 'The Tendril.

Yep. The Great Crossing looms closer for all of us with each passing year. I had the great good fortune to play music with Rick Fielding a couple of times in Toronto, adding harmonica breaks to what he was doing, and we had much fun discussing various Dylan arcana and stuff like that. Also met MMario and Duckboots on one of those occasions...and Big Mick on another...and CarolC and Jack the Sailor as well.

If you think about it, Amos went the way many of us
wish we could go --
with just enough warning,
surrounded by love and care,
and only so much suffering and no more.
We all know that
there are worse ways to go.

It's toughest on those Amos leaves behind.

Amos praised me!

Oh, NOBLY said, Booquemanne! NOBLY said!

The remarka [sic] by Mark Twain were called " Some Thoughts on the Science of Onanism". Old Sam delivered them in 1879, to an outfit called The Stomach Club, a society of American ne'er-do-wells and writers -- oh, but I repeat myself -- in Paris.

Among other profound insights on the subject, Sam remarked:

Homer, in the second book of the Iliad says with fine
enthusiasm, "Give me masturbation or give me death." Caesar, in
his Commentaries, says, "To the lonely it is company; to the
forsaken it is a friend; to the aged and to the impotent it is a
benefactor. They that are penniless are yet rich, in that they
still have this majestic diversion." In another place this
experienced observer has said, "There are times when I prefer it
to sodomy."

This is linguistic richesse worthy or Rapparree, worthy of the great BeeDub, worthy of--dare I say it?-- our Mom her very self! Oh, if Sam lived today, he'd surely be a hero of the MOAB, a BS firebrand of the first order!

Both Kendall and I loved Amos and his loss has hit hard here. Dani and Janie are supporting Daly and Tucker right now.

RIP Amos, my dear friend.

For on line dating
I need to write some words that do not scare
"My hard ware is good
but I need to update all my abs
Faith is no problem,
You name a church and I will not go there
I am slowing down
but I will not need any long term care

I don't like to run
but I walk a lot and limp with a flair
My firmware is strong,
they say I'm attached to my motherboard
I live in DC,
ever since I lost my damn return fare
I'd move to Maui
but they say volcanos smell like burnt hair

I like to have fun
It will take an hour to cook your buns.
I made my money
from super jiffy white pop corn flour
If you want marriage
I need a past prediction pre post nup
I'll supply the love
and you can supply all of the courage."

Spring is trying to arrive, despite the deep freeze we had a few days ago. The Mexican plum in my back yard is blooming, and the fragrance can be overpowering. I discussed this with a gardening friend recently who also has two Mexican plum trees in her yard. I commented on how strong the smell, and she said "yes, it's like the smell of cheap bars of bath soap!"

MOM thought that was pretty funny!

Journal entry by Janie Endres — 4 hours ago

Hello All,

A bit of an update regarding Amos, provided with his permission. He says to say he would post himself but his 'puter is on the blink. He also won't know, until his computer is fixed, how well he can manage the keyboard as fine motor skills are still a work in progress.

He is at home and is continuing recovery efforts from his severe concussion. To those of us around him, he progresses by leaps and bounds. To Amos, the progress seems frustratingly slow. In-home speech, occupation and speech therapy have been discontinued and there is serious slogging through bureaucracies going on to get outpatient therapies scheduled. His speech is clear, and he has made very significant progress on syntax, inflection, etc. Struggles sometimes to find the right words to use - but this amazingly articulate human being is already more articulate than most of us, even if not back to his prodromal levels.

He is able to sing - pretty well in imho, but not up to his own standards, and working at making some strumable chords on the guitar. Still needs a walker because the internal gyroscope still ain't working right, but there definitely continues to be improvement. Fine motor skills have a ways to go, but again, definitely continuing to improve.

Although fatigue can be an issue, and rest and naps are very important to promote healing after brain injury, he enjoys company and outings. He thinks he is a pain to take somewhere because of the walker, but, believe me folks - that is his imagination. He needs the walker for balance, not because his legs are injured and can't bear full weight. It is a piece of cake to chauffeur him to a local restaurant or coffee shop for an outing, as long as the steps can either accomodate a walker, or there is a sturdy handrail - though, for local folks, I would not recommend lunch at the Saratoga Grill at this point, with their full flight of stairs.

In terms of the cancer, he had a full scan a few weeks ago, and the cancer is 'stable.' No new metastases. Of the already present metastatic lesions, half have shrunk a little and half have grown a little. At present, focus continues to be on recovering from the concussion. Any decisions regarding further experimental treatments or clinical trials are deferred.

There some ways that local friends can help support the family.

1. Take Amos or Daly out to lunch, breakfast or dinner. Separately, so they get a break from one another. If taking Daly out, good idea to make sure Tucker is home, or that some one is there to keep Amos company. My schedule is somewhat flexible, so feel to call me to see if I can come visit Amos if taking Daly out. 919-259-5079. I do work part time so some pre-planning is helpful. Amos doesn't generally need assistance, but he knows he is still physically vulnerable and it can be a bit nerve-wracking to him to be home alone. If staying with Amos, take a book, in case he decides a short nap is in order, and make clear you are perfectly comfortable not being entertained if he needs to nap.

2. Invite yourself over for a meal with the family, and either bring the meal with you, or fix it in their kitchen. Lunch or dinner, or even a brunch!

3. Bring a meal over that can be heated up. Check with them first so they don't get overloaded with brought in food. Most local folks know that Amos loves meat and potatoes, especially beef or buffalo, or ham, but is not averse to sauted chicken breasts with a savory glaze. No seafood for Amos, but Daly loves sushi!

4. Amos has a lot of doctor appointments right now. Check with Daly to see if you might be able to take him to an appointment so she can have some time at home alone.

Once outpatient therapies get scheduled, they will probably occur on a routine schedule, and I will set up the planner (see above links under ways to help) for folks who have time during the day who might be free to take him to PT/OT/ST.

5. Just go visit! If you are a musician, bring your instrument, hand Amos his guitar, and go to work!

6. I'll reiterate - get Daly out of the house, just make sure some one is staying back at the house.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for caring.

Mom!

Every time I make a purchase with my Home Depot credit card, I get an email asking if what I bought "met my expectations". The thing is, it doesn't matter whether the purchase was consequential or trivial.

Now, I might expect Home Depot to wonder if I was satisfied with a new lawn tractor or chainsaw, but I get emails when I buy a pack of light bulbs. Sorry, Mr. Home and Mr. Depot, but my expectations for a pack of light bulbs are pretty low. I expect them to make light when I flip a switch, not play a Bach fugue.

"Did my new semi-rigid dryer vent hose meet my expectations? No! I extended it to full length and tried to chop down a tree with it. All it did was get bent up. Now, I won't even be able to use it to mow the lawn!"
