I heard that last year
and this recently

Its you I like its not the things you wear
its not the way you do your hair but
Its you I like the way you are right now
the way down deep inside you, not the things that hide you
not your fancy chair thats just beside you.
but
its you I like, every part of you
your skin your eyes whether you're old or new
I hope that you remember when you're feeling blue
Its you I like Its you yourself Its you I like

Fred Rodgers

Hi, Mom!

Is there some way I can filter out the word "Kardashian" from the entire Internet?

With this one, 45,993 posts. Not including Facebook, LinkedIn, and some other stuff I rarely do anymore. Heck, I'm pretty much only a Mudcat and FB guy nowadays.

We were delayed in Denver because a light came on in the cockpit of the plane and it had to be checked out (better a delay in Denver than a crash in Colorado, I always say). This made us late into SLC, so we changed out pickup time from 4:30 pm to 6. The 6 o'clock bus driver never bothered to check on us or the other passengers who had to change, so we finally got on the 8 p.m. bus. Which means we got home around 11:30 p.m., only 18 hours after I'd awakened! No wifi on the bus ("They took all that out"), but USB ports so the electronics didn't go south. I probably played 1,497 games of freecell as we motored through the rain and snow (yes, snow!). Now I have to catch up on my sleep prior to two more-or-less minor surgeries later this week. Can you say, "##$@!! *&^§¶»£¥!!!"?

blues'll do

Won't you lend your lungs to me, mine are collapsing
Plant my feet in bitter leaf as my time is apassin
Breath I give and breath I take pray the day not poison
Stand among those live in lonely indecision

Fingers walk the darkness down mine are on the midnight
Gather all the gold you found you fool its only moonlight
If you start to take her home your hands will turn to butter
Better leave this stream alone try and find another

Salvation sat and crossed herself and called the devil partner
Wisdom burned upon a shelf who will kill the raging cancer
See the river at its mouth take the water prisoner
build a sky with screams and cries bathed the fiery answer

Jesus Christ was an only child and love's his only concept
The stranger cried in foreign tongues and dirty up the doorstep
And I for one and you for two ain't got the time for outside

The amazing thing about some 19 year old posts is that feeling of wonder regarding who wrote that post under your own name while sailin down the coast of high Barbaree.

I have posted to Mudcat 64,968 times, beginning back in November 1999, over 19 years ago. If i was forced to count,, averaging 1.5 minutes for each post (some take much long, most a bit less) I would have to own up to having spent over 1600 hours posting on Mudcat, and probably twice that reading and chuckling over posts from others. SOmething like 170 hours a years.

Forgive me, Mom, for I have sinned. I shudder to think what my FB tally looks like. I am clearly a case of a mis-spent senility!

Ahhh, the Bowery, the Bowery. They do such things, and they say such things on the Bowery! Not to mention walking down Canal Street, knocking on every door...

Anyway, that's all bygones and water under the bridge and yesterday's news. I am awaiting the results of a new CT scan to see which way the wind is blowing. I shall adjust my emotional state accordingly. :D If I remember. WHich I might not.

Played a loverly set or three at the local tavern last night. Everyone loved it. Nice to be liked. Especially when a free beer or so is involved. :D

I suspect some of these guys have never heard "High Barbaree" before...

Actually, I had a really interesting bus ride three years ago. From Boston to New York City. It cost all of about $23 from the South Station and the bus had an electric plug at every seat so devices could be charged. It may also have had WiFi. The weather was gorgeous, leaves were beginning to turn, and we stopped in a small town half way there for people to use the restroom and buy Chinese takeout from a buffet. It had to detour around some rough traffic so was a longer ride than planned, but they dropped me off just off the Bowery down near Canal Street and I easily made my way from there to my friend's apartment.

All bus rides are lousy. The last recorded pleasurable bus ride was taken by Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters about fifty years ago.

Gluon wouldn't need to pull those fence posts. Gluon would simply apply the leg humping skills mastered on Rap's trousers to the posts and they would dissolve into quantum foam.

Ah.... Another Black Friday, blissfully ignored. I did nothing different from what I would do on any other Friday, and didn't buy anything at any big box stores or online. Just had a nice lunch at the usual place, filled the gas tank, bought groceries. I barely even noticed it was Black Friday apart from the barrage of email messages reminding me. :D And they are still pouring in...

MOM, did you know that taking a fence apart can be as much work as building one? And once I have all of the wood down there are still steel posts in concrete footers to address. Too bad Gluon isn't around, I could use her help pulling those straight out of the ground.

Morning after apple pie, so did I. Don't you wish everyone did?
My wife does the Lininus Blanket project and only cleared the dining table sewing projects yesterday morning.

She does not yet know she's getting a new 'working' hot tub from Santa.
I found that mid winter hot tub trips are more enjoyable than summer.
Unless there is snow.

I had my traditional morning-after breakfast of apple pie. I have no intention of going anywhere. Since the dining table was cleared to set for the meal yesterday I can now use the surface to get started on various sewing and crafts projects that needed this space.

Even when she's at the bottom of the pile, Mom is head and shoulders above capitalistic concerns like Black Friday or Cyber Monday. But that's not to say she's totally divorced from consumer culture. She still likes hunting for bargains at Tuesday Morning, followed by dinner and drinks at Ruby Tuesday or TGI Friday.

My dog considers all other animals to be potential playmates. This is a trait that is rather intimidating to cats, squirrels, and the occasional deer fawn. "Playful" and "hungry" probably look pretty much the same to a cat when a seventy-pound dog is racing toward it at 30 MPH.

Of course Dachshunds prefer to poop on nicely mown lawns. Their bellies and associated parts are too low to the ground to go traipsing around in the woods without consequence. You'd shit on the lawn too if the one time you tried to do it in the woods you came home with poison ivy on your balls.

The only dog droppings I ever step on are dropped chew toys. That's an advantage of living on wooded property. Given the option, a dog will almost always do its business in the woods instead of on the lawn.

Our cat had kittens before we thought to get her spayed (long time ago - I was a teenager) - and I kept one of the kittens. When I was still living at Mom's home my cat came up to my room at night to sleep on my bed (she would start to scold if I was staying up too late). We also had a German shorthair pointer who got along fine with the cats. One night conditions were such that the dog was afraid (lightning, wind causing sparks on the electric pole outside the back of the house, etc.) that we deemed it prudent that she come upstairs and sleep in my room. The cat was So Pissed. As I was going to sleep the dog had curled on the foot of my bed and the cat sat on the floor in the dark glaring at the dog (the cat usually slept on my pillow). In the morning I found that she'd resolved the problem by curling up and sleeping against the dog.

Gluon has visited that really big planet with the little bug-eyed cats and reports that the dogs and cats there pay very little attention to one another. It's an unforeseen byproduct of an experiment in weaponized dissonant sound waves. Prior to the misguided experiment, dogs and cats there behaved pretty much the same as on Earth: they despised each other. But after being bombarded with the wayward sound waves, they began to ignore each other. Instead, both species began to channel their aggressions toward members of the native equivalents of our crocodiles and alligators. While this accidental adaptation has led to harmonious relations between dogs and cats, it has also resulted in a bunch of happy and well-fed crocodilians.

The more life forms master time the more successful their life becomes.
Which is different than the time of your life. :^/
Evolution selects for the best time managers.
Which is different than those damn time efficiency experts.

Now maybe you don't imagine alien cats on other planets, but suppose you were a sci fi writer for 'space cats' and if planet Feline were twice as big as Earth, the kitties would be 4 times smaller to cope with the 'extra' gravity and TIME itself would move slower, allowing for whopping life spans. If this super Earth orbited a red dwarf star in a goldilocks zone their eyes would evolve as big as possible for the low light. Perhaps they would slowly grow so clever as to write about the adventures of giant hot Earth cats that would live quick and die young.
Now space dogs (Annubi) have loyalty issues and like Earth dogs, do not see eye to eye with cats.

The cat who has recently showed up at our place can't tell clock time, but he's an expert at solar time. He stays gone all day, but comes meowing over his empty food bowl precisely at sundown. Then, I feed him, he hangs around for the night, and he leaves rather hurriedly when I let Miss Tina out of her kennel for her morning exercise. Somehow, I don't see harmonious dog/cat relations as being part of our near future.

I have always known what Braintree meant. Even the first time I encountered the word. Residents if Quincy, Massachusetts pronounce their town's name "Kwin-zee", while everyone else in the US pronounces it "Kwin-see". Exactly the opposite of inhabitants of Boise, Idaho, who pronounce their town's name "Boy-see" while everyone else in the US pronounces it "Boy-zee".

Now, do you see? Or zee, if you prefer?

so:
Braintree, massachusetts
is named for the Essex town
of Braintree in the U. K.

And they don't know what Braintree means ...
the name is too ancient and varied.

In the Domesday Book of 1086,
the settlement is called Branchetreu.
This is before it had a market charter from the Bishop of London.

I dunno about Quincy, Massachusetts, I have my doubts.
I'm not a New England native, so I miss a lot of stuff.
I don't know how natives pronounce Quincy
(I presume it isn't "quonset").

But what I do recall is that the town of Quincy
isn't all that old by Massachusett standards;
nearby Braintree was there first,
in fact most likely
Quincy used to be part of Braintree
(which, now I think of it, is one heckuva name,
I ought to look it up...)
