I'm into my second batch of daffodils now. I think we're due for rain, but the cold is over, though this doesn't rule out "chilly." We awoke to the smell of grass fires this morning, though I think they're not local, we're smelling burning grass in Mexico or way out in West Texas. Amazing how far the wind will blow that smoke and still have the strong smell.

Well, you should think of such things, although we are not. It keeps the mind flexible and fit for adventure.

HE thought it meant column inches.

MM, why not move to California? We had eight inches of bright sunshine falling in the night.

You shouldn't have answered that spam ad that said, "You can have 8 inches!"

We were thirty-nine from twenty-two nine,
Forget it I would not dare,
What a terrible time we had that night,
In the cold and foggy air, me boys
In the cold and foggy air.

Oh, the MOAB she was running slow
The BS, it was thin
We was all reduced to two-word posts
And we did not think we'd win, me lads
We weren't sure we could win

Oh the wit was running low and cold,
And the humor it was rare
We was forced to stoke Mom's boiler up
With a cheap line from Rapaire, poor boy,
A cheap line from Rapaire.

Oh, the MOAB she was running slow
The BS, it was thin
We was all reduced to two-word posts
And we did not think we'd win, me lads
We weren't sure we could win

Now the galley was all out of chow,
An' the crew was out of talk,
So we scraped the bilge for some long lost rot
Had been lost by Little Hawk, me boys
Some rot from Little Hawk

Oh, the MOAB she was running slow
The BS, it was thin
We was all reduced to two-word posts
And we did not think we'd win, me lads
We weren't sure we could win

Oh the cook she was a buxom gal,
Who was often prone to rage.
And the only one who could talk her down,
Was our Stilly River Sage, you know.
'Twas Stilly River Sage.

Oh, the MOAB she was running slow
The BS, it was thin
We was all reduced to two-word posts
And we did not think we'd win, me lads
We weren't sure we could win

Now we lost old Tweed in Buffalo
And khandu in Port Rye.
And we could not tell where BeeDubyaEll
Had let his moorings fly, the sod,
He had let his moorings fly.

Oh, the MOAB she was running slow
The BS, it was thin
We was all reduced to two-word posts
And we did not think we'd win, me lads
We weren't sure we could win

Well, the mule she is a surly cuss
She won't eat corn or hay
But I'll tell ya whut
We will whip her butt
'Till we get to 23 Kay, me lads
All the way to 23 Kay!

Oh, the MOAB she was running slow
The BS, it was thin
We was all reduced to two-word posts
And we did not think we'd win, me lads
We weren't sure we could win

Now I'm sorry things are looking slow,
'Cuz I'd rather run than creep,
But if this is how it has tuh go,
I'll just go and get some sleep, me lads,
I'll go below and sleep.

Oh, the MOAB she was running slow
The BS, it was thin
We was all reduced to two-word posts
And we did not think we'd win, me lads
We weren't sure we could win

I wasn't making fun of Conrad, Stilly. I was making fun of H.P. Lovecraft.

I have always imagined, by the way, that his initials stood for "Herbert Paisely"....which I think would have suited his old-maidish style of horror writing perfectly.

No. My pain is mine, I have to live with it. It's part of what made me me. You can't have it, except to share it a little. And drugs of any sort CANNOT have it.

Let me preface the following by saying I think this is a very bad idea.

"Anaesthetic drugs might soon be used to numb a different sort of pain - flushing out harrowing memories before they take hold and post-traumatic stress disorder develops. The advance stems from the discovery that low doses of anaesthetics can block the formation of memories associated with emotive images".

I do not think burying pain harder, either chemically or psychically, is the right way to recover from it. The experience is not going to go away because of anaesthesia, is my guess.

His detractors ARE giant penguins. Giant penguins are completed and irrevocably opposed to Obama and everything he stand for, with, in, or by. They are also totally opposed to Hillary Clinton, John McCain, head lice, Ron Paul, Dick Cheney, crabs (both kinds), returning to the gold standard, and the WTCU. The giant penguins are, in fact, not in favor of anything except being in opposition.

I don't have a nightmare closet, no. I do have a monkey watching over the room...but he's not an evil one like in Family Guy. He's quite friendly.

(I'm not referring to Chongo when I say "monkey". I'm referring to Gideon. He's a small baboon.)

I used to read H.P. Lovecraft and I found his writing hysterically funny! ;-) It's really quite odd that a man would write what he thought were tales of chilling horror and come up with stuff that amusing and ridiculous. The giant penguins that kept uttering the dread sound "Tek-e-li-li" were perhaps the funniest horror he ever came up with! Astounding. I really have to wonder if he was in posession of all his faculties. His ghost would probably be quite annoyed if he could see me now, chuckling over his attempts to build forboding, wiping away tears of laughter as he finally reaches the penultimate scene where the protagonist "ran screaming from the room" (where he was do doubt confronted by some sort of inchoate, shapeless, formless, indescribable something that Lovecraft can find no apparent way of describing...or perhaps by a giant pink Easter bunny that hopped in a strangely unbalanced and eldritch fashion past antediluvian structures of impossible (?) geometry wrought out of black, crennelated basaltic stone so ancient that it must have predated even the foundations of this very world!!!!!!!!!!!!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

The horror. The horror.   ;-)

You have to give Rapaire high marks for his outstanding powers of association. He can make any two things in the universe appear intimately connected, just by overlooking factual distinctions in time, place, or event. It's a powerful ability, one which should take him far -- all the way to the RNC!!

Yes, in the right places. Like the Österreichisches Staatsarchiv, for example. You might even find pictures of Wolfy and Billy, like this one.   Billy is in the center foreground with his back to us, as it often was to Wolfy, who is seated at the head of the table, fourth from the left.

The picture, by the way, is of a certain Biergarten in Vienna called, for some reason, "Der Gai Vacquero".

Well, yes and no. LH, archives show that Billy met Wolfy when Billy was tossed into Hohenasperg prison as Wolfy's cellmate. Wolfy being quite domineering, even bullying, you can imagine how the relationship developed. They were released in a general amnesty following the accession of Prinz Frederich Hermann to the Mayorality of Heidelberg; Wolfy insisted that they then move to Vienna. Billy wanted to go to Toronto, but Wolfy's arguments (and his shank) left little room for argument. They were picked up numerous times by the Sündegruppe of the Wiener Polizei, paid fines up to three gold trunckenlieder, and were finally banished to Italy, "wo solche Sachen angenommen werden" (they were seperated with a crowbar and put on different coaches, one going to Venice and the other, for some reason, to Toronto).

You can find these records easily enough if you will only look for them in the right places.

You have unwittingly hit on a great truth there, Rapaire. My studies into the Akashic Records have convinced me beyond any shadow of a doubt that William Shatner WAS W.A. Mozart in a previous life. Furthermore, he was also William Shakespeare, and that's why he's so good at Shakespearian style acting. The Man simply cannot avoid greatness, no matter where or when he chooses to walk among us. What he will accomplish in his next life, I can only wonder. With luck, I will be there to see it.

"Wolfy" and "Billy" were a well-known couple of rakes on the streets of Vienna. They'd walk around drinking beer, eating madelines and sachertorte, molesting the barmaids, drinking beer, eating schnitzel, molesting small animals, binking dreer....
