Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: Tig Date: 07 May 03 - 06:55 AM Rincewynds (Badger and I) will be noticable by our absence this year due to the fact John can't 'do' hills yet and to go anywhere other than the main site requires steep hills. Have a good festival and give them all our love, especially at the Community Centre. |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: GUEST,T-boy Date: 07 May 03 - 07:35 AM I went a couple of times a few years ago and it's great, but... Have they improved the field ? Long grass, bumpy and a steep slope to get out again. Could be a right bugger to get your caravan out if it rains. |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: Mr Happy Date: 07 May 03 - 07:49 AM T Boy, if you put your caravan on the hard standing or grassed area at the back of the Royal Oak pub, you shouldn't have any probs. Also many events will be taking place at the Oak & they'll be doing breakfasts & other meals too. |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: GUEST,T-boy Date: 07 May 03 - 08:24 AM It used to be at the 'Morris Dancer'. Has it moved ? Or has the pub changed it's name ? |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: Mr Happy Date: 07 May 03 - 08:27 AM the morris dancer has changed name- its now called the olive tree. the pub down the bottom of the hill with overspill campsite is still called the royal oak. |

Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: Mr Happy Date: 07 May 03 - 09:04 PM the main playbill sounds like vomit- but the fringe is always brill! |

Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: GUEST,noddy Date: 18 May 03 - 07:22 AM The Chester Festival is getting closer and closer and..... |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: Zany Mouse Date: 18 May 03 - 02:14 PM Mrs Lemon: Not sure if you would sell enough lemonade at Chester. It is a great festival but nowhere near as big as Chippenham (which is why Mick and I enjoy it). I would imagine that COMMERCIALLY Chips would be the best by far. ZM |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: GUEST,noddy Date: 19 May 03 - 04:29 AM ...and closer..... |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: Apache Date: 20 May 03 - 12:27 PM ...and closer... infact, there's only 3 day's left. Should be a good festival, I feel sorry for the poor landlord at the Oak though, he's just got his licence and is starting there on Friday, straight in at the thick of it. |

Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: Zany Mouse Date: 26 May 03 - 01:27 PM Just back from Chester. FANTASTIC time. I think this is fast becoming my favourite festival. Well done and many thanks to all concerned. Roll on Chester 2004. ZM |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: GUEST Date: 26 May 03 - 08:45 PM Didn't make it I'm afraid - give us the lowdown on who was what and what was where.. |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: GUEST,noddy Date: 27 May 03 - 04:19 AM best fringe for a while. The Olive Tree (The Morris Dancer) a bit pricey on the drinks, pity we lost the upstairs room and not the same as in the past. The Royal Oak was the place to be |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival From: Apache Date: 27 May 03 - 12:17 PM I stayed onsite for most of the time, this was my most drunkard festival to date. I thought James Keelghan and Hugh McMillan were brilliant and brought tears to peoples eyes and of course The Old Rope String Band bought tears to people eyes through crying with laughter, I'll never listen to "Teddy Bear's Picnic" in the same light again, lol. And I think the Bradshaw's had they're most expensive prop arrive just on time on Saturday. The stretched limo arrived in perfect cue. NB: For anyone who wasn't there, the bride and groom got out and walked into the Resteraunt to an applause from the audience and through a parley of garlends laid out by the Chester City Morris Men. I think the last thing they expected when they got married that day was to be accosted by Morris Men on the way to their reception. A good festival was had by all, I didn't want to leave today, I've just got home, I miss it already. Thank You to everyone involved in making it such a good festival and I hope to see you all and more next year for Chester Folk Festival 2004, I know I can't wait. Is anyone going to Warwick? |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival (UK) From: Emma B Date: 27 May 03 - 04:17 PM It just all went so quickly! On Thursday it rained all day, heavily and continually, while we were setting up the site, drenching us all and threatening to totally waterlog the field. As if by magic it stopped just in time for a fine and sunny(ish) festival but started again on cue this morning as we began to dismantle everything. A couple of magic moments personally - temporarily (and unofficially) closing down the main road while a steam roller from the local traction engine rally performed a dance to the accompianment of the wonderful Witchmen musicians and secondly, discovering someone in one of the fringe sessions playing a Bulbul Tarang which is apparently the proper name of my Japan Banjo (must tell Mr Red I now know how to tune it!) Thanks to everyone for the useful comments and warm compliments on the feedback forms - we really are trying to find some form of viable shower system The word for this years festival - BENDIGEDIG! |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival (UK) From: Apache Date: 27 May 03 - 06:57 PM I've said this many a time, all you need is a stand alone shower curtain, a hospipe and a watering can (with a Rose attachment) and you have 1 shower. I was on caravan pushing duty most of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, I think the worst one though was the Marquee Lorry getting stuck and the guy in the Land Rover trying to pull it out almost blew the engine. It's wierd being back at home, I don't think I like house life anymore, I always get really festival sick (like homesick, but in reverse) after a festival. |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival (UK) From: GUEST,rob wright Date: 28 May 03 - 06:21 AM expensive festival. Bought my wife TWO musical instruements. Now all she has to do is learn how to play them. |
Subject: RE: Chester Festival (UK) From: Zany Mouse Date: 28 May 03 - 12:35 PM Ha ha. I know what you mean, Rob. Pete Grassby persuaded me to part with some dosh for a duet concertina! At least it is easier to play than the English. ZM |
