Subject: Yorkshire 2003 the final countdown
From: Mrs.Duck
Date: 06 May 03 - 03:22 PM

Despite the new technology still thought it was best to start a new thread to tie up all loose ends for the gathering. Please check the list of people compiled by alanww and if we have missed you off or you are no longer coming let me know. There are still some people who haven't told me if they are in a tent or caravan so a pm confirming which and maybe an idea of when you hope to get there would be better than posting to the thread.
The venue in case you missed it is
Black Dog Inn
Selby Rd Camblesforth
Selby North Yorkshire
YO8 8HX

OK, no idea when I will get there, but when I do, I will be in need of some assistance, because I'm camping and am now on crutches thanks to an UNDRUNK bottle of red wine! Help will be required in unloading and pitching tent.... as long as I can get drunk in the supine position, everything else will be OK!

B....r - cleared the weekend for myself, and said I would come.

And wouldn't you know it ------- so far this week, for Saturday 17th only, my kids have found a school event and a steel pan band event; my gardening course has changed from 2 hours on Tuesdays to 4 hours on the Saturday; and my folk guitar pupils have a concert. So much for planning!!!!!!

Nothing has yet come up on the Sunday, but if I can get over, it will almost certainly mean coming over on that morning to see what is still left to happen! If I do have the energy to get over on Saturday evening, I'll have a tent.

All best - Gavin

Ah, so I'm not the only one humming that bloody tune!!

Driving was difficult yesterday (Tues) but viable, the weight distribution is different as I tend to use my big toe rather than the whole of my foot. It should be a bit better by then, but I will be taking it easy and Bratling can work the brake pedals.

If anyone wants to come and doesn't have a tent, I have room in my East Wing for another couple of bodies.

Bratling has already packed her bag for it, and is eagerly anticipating another weekend of mummy hopping around and swearing.

I just hope you and Bratling don't have to make any emergency stops. I'll be staying at home trying to work out how to fill in my tax form....

(We were trying to work out at Sharp's last night how many of us are anti-Establishment, how many of us work for the Government, and how big the overlap is between the 2 categories.)

Just returned from Black Dog making some final arrangements. There is plenty of room but we would still like people to confirm they are coming and if you are in a tent or caravan. An idea of time of arrival is also useful although there are no restrictions.

There will be some sort of supper available Friday and Saturday evenings (probably chilli or curry and rice - different each night)at £2.

Breakfast will be available if fine in the form of an open air breakfast barbeque £3 including toast tea or coffee - if wet served inside but may have to be earlier on Sunday (9.30 latest) as they do a lot of Sunday lunches and need to get underway.

If you would like to book Sunday lunch let me know so they can buy in enough meat. They have a number of regulars who eat there usually between 12 and 2pm so if we could arrange to eat after that please.

The pub serve very good food and other meals can be ordered during the weekend from the menu which has a good range of reasonably priced choices.

Starting to get very excited

Same here, still question marked when I confirmed it will be Bratling and I, with tent, arriving some time on Friday evening unless we get lost - our native bearer has been poached! Getting to the general area will be no problem - it's always the last 5 miles that cause the difficulty!

If anyone wants a ride up from London, and can read a map.....?

Does that mean El Greko you will be there for Keith Donnelly at the Comfort in St Albans on the Friday, you must have some heckles ready then.
If you travel to Selby after, you could be there for brekkers, at 3.00a.m.
See you tomorrow for Pint and Dale, where are they 2night?

Please can another stranger come :-) ? I haven't seen Emma for ages, and we spoke the other day, concluding that I might come along on Friday seeing as she's going. I have a feeling there may be other people I know from festivals here, but I don't know any nicknames.

On the tent front, Emma already said she was bringing one - which is technically correct, because she has a new one. I've volunteered to make unhelpful comment and thoughtfully play sustaining tunes as would sustain someone interpreting the excellent instructions and trying to pitch the new tent. This doesn't help you for numbers as you already knew Emma was going. However. I would also like to bring a tent, which is only little, and may even be smaller than expected as it's been left in the roof since last year for anything particularly hungry to use as a growing medium. Which sounds unlikely, but has happened before.

So I just wanted to check that there would be space suitable for somewhere between there being two successfully erected tents, and two people giving up and sleeping their cars in the car park?

Thanks, Robin

If I was to play the mending song, it would most likely be on a mandolin. Or a fiddle. Badly.

I've never worked out any leveryorganyinstruments. I just used littlecharliemouse a very long time ago on msn after a train of events involving a sidmouth festival, a Sandra Kerr concert, a greogrian chant workshop, & application of our new found gregorian chant skills to a tune. The tune being the mending song.

Speaking on behalf of Alanwwww who is currently tripping in the canal, he (and possibly Sandy) will be in his Bambi Campervan, as stated above, not a tent.

I'll prob not need a tent space as I've been offered a bed in a luxurious palace/truck/MegaCamper.
Breakfasts, suppers and Sunday lunch for me please, and I'm not heading off early on the Sunday as I'm on holiday.

Thanks for doing all this, Jane.

oops yes you're right Noreen - no problem!! Sadly I do have to work Monday but still won't be rushing off!

Timetable for the weekend will be very fluid
Friday night - arrive set up meet old friends and do what what we like best, singing making music and drinking
Supper - something with rice chilli curry or similar (£2)

Saturday -breakfast barbeque if fine (£3)
PM singarounds and music sessions
Around 5pm - Iced Gems at Teatime - time for the quieter more contemplative songs or to try something new
Evening - singaround with choruses , music sessions
Supper - something with rice chilli curry or similar (£2)

Sunday - breakfast outside again if fine (£3)
Kazoo workshop with Selby when he arrives
Lunchtime sing and music session in the pool bar (ie one with pool table in)
From 2pm Sunday lunches PLEASE LET ME KNOW IN ADVANCE IF YOU WANT THESE SO THEY CAN ORDER MEAT
Afternoon and into evening Survivors session music and singing

If fine there is also plenty of room outside for playing and singing for those who like Al Fresco (the well known Italian folkie!)

There will be a raffle and Mrs Cobble has made one of her legendary mudcat cushions but any other donations CDs bottles (full ones of course)badges T shirts sweets etc would be brilliant.
There was also a suggestion of an instrument sale with small commission going to Mudcat funds so if anyone is trying to sell something bring it along. Would 5% to Mudcat sound reasonable?
Jane (always open to suggestions that don't end in off)

Well the landlord of the pub has a put short piece on it in the local paper, and it seems to have been billed as a mini festival!
(Mind you, I only caught sight of it after the colour picture on the opposite page of our mob dancing there on Mayday drew my eye).

Book your car park space now!!!
See you!

Happy - vents will be in tents to let the wind out.
I'll be off over during the day to get set-up in advance. Either myself, Col K or the Cobbles are likely to be on hand to give advice to arrivals.
NOTE - if you approach from the South (road from Snaith), the turning to the camping field is IMMEDIATELY BEFORE the pub entrance (turn LEFT if heading North). Do not turn into the pub car park with a caravan. The field gate is about 20 yards further down the lane, on the RIGHT (same side as car park). If you go too far you will be at the local football club grounds.
Despite weather forecasts predicting a dry night and morning, it is already raining. Let's hope they get the rest wrong and we get sunshine this weekend instead of what they promise.
I may not be near the computer again before we start, so - See you all there!
Quack!

Sorry I missed most of Saturday evening, which I understand was memorable. Jane you have the organisational genius of a small town planning department -all hail Mrs Duck. Made it back at 20:00, somewhat cream-crackered but smiling. Lovely sessions, lovely voices (Teresa, Hazel, Linda, Nutty, Karen, Sue vG, Noreen, Willa, ZM & Kate top my female list, no order; Allan C, Alanww & MCP top my male list, Graham you'll have to finish The Manch next time!), mean instrument playing (Colin now joins Mick at the top of my jealousy list; Sam was working wonders in the "session room"). And I now have an eyeful of faces and an earful of sounds to sort out in my sleep tonight (and a bellyful of Abbots and Broadside - Titch).

Aahhh....nice! Thanks, all, for the warmth. Thanks, Teresa, for the chance to sing together and especially for the parting song. Thanks to the ducklings for beeing such sweeties. And thanks Mrs Duck for the organisation.

And yes there will be a YG2004 as well as the Euro Gather a couplw of weeks earlier. Great range of songs. And I didn't even mind having to put my tent up in the rain(thogh I did have help - thanks for that!) Now if only we could stop the garbage men from calling at 6.30 am!!!

Willa - you are a lot younger than I though you were !!! And I'm sorry if I blew your microphone and sound levels!!!

Good to put more names to faces, and more bodily contact with hugging type persons.....

It was well worth the 7 hr drive to get there (3hrs more than it took to get home, but it was downhill all the way)

The Parody session at 8.15 on Saturday morning resulted in one, which didn't get sung and one that did..... maybe I should have done the other one. There will shortly be a song appearing about people who organise things for unearthly hours in the morning and then stay in bed (mentioning no names but just check out the postings above).....

It was a wonderful weekend of reunions - old friends with each other and songs with authors - of crutches - started the weekend with 4 crutches in "Cripps Corner", ended it with only 1 - and of meeting new people and new songs.

Thank you...

LTS

What a wonderful gathering of wonderful people! Sang, played, listened, socialised ...and drank... over a very full weekend. What great people you all are- and El Greko is every bit as lovely and talented as I've been told; a splendid addition to the gathering. We will do it sometime, G!

Our hosts Gary & Tracy at the Black Dog couldn't have been more hospitable, cooking breakfasts 'til 11 am for late risers while preparing Sunday lunches to start at 12...

One of the highlights was the five of us harmonising to Sue's tuneful singing kettle in her palace, at 3am on Sunday. Loved your harmonies, chaps!

Took my camera but was too busy doing it to photograph it, if you know what I mean.... Look forward to seeing pics as and when.

When she says off the wall, what she reallly means is, there were no walls... just a larch lap fence and a fetching open plan gazebo..... but it was bliss, sitting there all Alf Resco... hearing the little birds twittering, watching the bees buzzing round, wondering if the next door neighbours were looking out of their bedroom windows and would they throw you some paper whilst they were there......

And a Godsend at dawn when making it to the pub wasn't an option!

Here's the weekend's saddest story - I said I was coming on Saturday. On Thursday, my computer died, and I forgot I hadn't made a note of the pub's details. Come saturday morning, I realized I didn't know exactly where it was, but I thought I had a rough idea it was somewhere in sight of Drax power station, so I jumped in my car and toured about, checking up on likely looking pubs. After a couple of hours, I gave up and went home to Doncaster. I realize now that I drove past it at least twice. Ah well - it could only happen to a banjo player (don't all cheer at once!).
Even so, I'm glad you all had a great weekend, and maybe I'll find it next year!
Cheers

Dear All - this was last year's thread. It is unnecessary for any new postings to it. Please do not post to this thread.
If you want to know about the 2004 Yorkshire Gathering. there is a thread for that one Yorkshire Gathering 2004. Please post there.
Perhaps a Joeclone or one of the pixies could close this thread?
Quack!
GtD.
