I have at last obtained a new contract, and will be working in the Chester area all summer. Can anyone recommend any MID-WEEK clubs or sessions in the area? (I will be going home at weekends)
Thanks

There are several good clubs in Chester and around about.

Recommend the Bromborough Folk Club at Port Sunlight, Wirral on a Wed.

Check out the info for all the area on FOLKORBIT.COM which will supply all the info you need.

As Phil P mentions the Bromborough Folk Club at the Bridge Inn, Bolton Road, Port Sunlight is a good venue (my own local club (Hi Phil!))but there are others in the Folk Orbit such as Mr Happy's own club at The Union Vaults in Chester also on Wednesday nights, and also well worth a visit is the Everyman in Hope Street, Liverpool on Tuesday nights.

I have also seen occasional references to casual sinarounds, but I suspect these may appeal more to the orthographically challenged, and be of greater interest to folkswingers.

the Ship Victory pub in the middle of Gorse Stacks Car Park on a Tuesday night is a great meeting place, run by Colin Matthews who is responsible for The Folk Orbit web page and booklet.
Monday night at the Prospect in Runcorn is a good night, sometimes they have a guest and its still free and lots of floor spots.
Sunday night (Iknow its not midweek ) at the Cross Keys on Lower Bridge Street second sunday is a session downstairs other sundays up stairs for a singaround or occassional guest.

Now dont forget The Chester Festival is on Spring Bank weekend so dont go home that weekend.

Taplas magazine covers the North-East of Wales which has a folk club or two. Wrexham is only about 20 minutes drive from Chester. Try a search on Google.

Sandbach folk club is every Tuesday at the George, and is not that far from Chester. They call the club Sandbach Unplugged, and they have a website where you could find the programme, the usual mix of guests and singers nights.
