Subject: RE: Lyr Req: there once was a silver grey fox From: GUEST,daylynn Date: 24 Aug 04 - 12:05 PM thankyou so much for posting the words to that song. I have called every radio station I could think of that might know that song but no one knows that song. I have searched the internet on anything about red davis but have come up with nothing. That song reminds me of my mother who always would say listen to the words, they dont sing songs this beautiful anymore |
Subject: Lyr Add: I AM THE EAGLE (Rhett Davis) From: GUEST,gonzo11 Date: 27 Jul 04 - 06:12 PM My mom pieced together what appears to be nearly all of the song from multiple partial recordings. We're still looking for a complete good quality recording. Here are her transcribed lyrics: I AM THE EAGLE by Rhett Davis There once was a silver grey fox of great beauty, who lived very deep in the wood Afraid of the meadow where life once before had treated her worse than it should. And to think of the mountain beyond the great meadow did surely bring fear to her heart, For she'd heard the stories of all the great hunters and shivered and cried in the dark. Then tired of living a life in dark shadows, the fox ventured out in the light And rejoiced at the sound and the smell of the meadow while keeping her shelter in sight. Then all at once such a fear overcame her as a shadow passed over the sun And as she heard the cry of the great hunting eagle, she knew it was over and done. CHORUS: For I am the eagle, the sweet soaring eagle, I've come to take you away High up the mountains and sparkling blue rivers and show you the place where I stay. Please do not fear me for I will not harm you no matter what others may say. For though it is true that our lives should not mingle, I'm in need of some friendship today. Though she didn't know why, she accepted the offer and reluctantly climbed on his back And the woods and the meadow were left far behind her. It seemed she would never get back. Then the fox sensed a yearning deep within the great eagle and she felt something stirring her too. Could she, a fox, fall in love with the eagle, could he fall in love with her too? Could this eagle be lonely and searching for someone to help him rule his domain? Had he ever had someone to love and protect him and bring him in out of the rain? And the eagle spoke soft and his words were a wonder, in a voice touched with sadness it seemed Even though I must hunt in the name of survival, I need not kill all that I see. CHORUS ENDING WITH TWO EXTRA LINES: I've need of some friendship today I've need of some love today (sung very slowly). |
Subject: RE: looking for a song: once was a silver grey fox From: GUEST,Lawanda Date: 15 Jul 04 - 04:51 PM I have searched the net and found that this sight is the only one that refers to a song I used to sing many years ago, I remember the melody and one verse and the chorus.(the same lyrics everyone else seems to remember. Would really appreciate the lyrics for the complete song if anyone out there can provide them. Thanks. |
Subject: RE: looking for a song: once was a silver grey fox From: GUEST,gonzo11 Date: 02 Jul 04 - 12:47 PM Crazy--a memory of a favorite childhood song ("the fox and the eagle" as I remembered it) popped into my head today, so I did a quick internet search to see if I could figure out who sang it, etc. What a surprise to find others looking for the same tune! It's great to have figured out the singer and title...any luck with tracking down a copy? |

I know that he sings that song because my mother has it on cassette tape and at the end of the song they announced that the song was sung by Corrections made by a JoeClone. |

Subject: RE: looking for a song: once was a silver grey fox From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 17 May 04 - 07:22 PM More than one song begins "I am an Eagle," one sung by Eagle Scouts. I don't believe any of them are related to the story of the silver gray fox and the eagle, requested here and partly posted by Jan back in 1998 (the one I would like to get as well). It is not the Aesop fable about the fox and the eagle either. |
Subject: RE: Still Looking From: GUEST,daylynn Date: 17 May 04 - 06:00 PM could you post the rest of the song. thanks |

But I don't remember the title. The song starts out with this line: "There once was a silver grey fox of great beauty who lived very deep in the woods." The song is about the fox and an eagle falling in love. Can anyone tell me what the title is? Thanks. |
