My apologies, but I chose to start a new thread for this, because the other Northwest Folklife Festival thread seems to have turned a bit sour.

This year's Northwest Folklife Festival will be heavy on sea songs. A story on Maritime History of the Pacific Northwest in Song on KUOW-FM (local NPR affiliate) HERE. It played this morning and has been archived already. There is a link if you'd like to give it a listen. It runs a little under an hour. One of the singers being interviewed is Jon Pfaff, whom I have known since the coffee house days.

And now—a touch of shameless self-promotion:— Bob Nelson (Deckman) was interviewed a few days ago by a reporter from the Everett Herald. I just got an e-mail from Bob letting me know that the story has been published. Here it is— . For the masochists among you, THIS will enlarge the picture. It was taken in 1959 at "The Place Next Door". Ye Gods we were young. . . .

Bob and I will be performing on Monday, May 26th, at 1:00 p.m. or thereabouts in the Olympic Room, along with a whole bunch of other folks from those prehistoric times.

And then the bloody link to enlarging the picture didn't work. If one is really that curious, when they get to the story, they can click on the picture itself. That should work. If not, count your blessings.

Boy, was that a l-o-n-g time ago! About the period that photo was taken my parents were sending us (we?) kids to bed so all of you could sing the good songs at hoots! (So we used to sit in the hall at the top of the stairs and listen through the heater ducts to all of you singing!)

Nice article, Bob!

Hi Maggie, I remember that house in West Seattle. I also remember how faithfully your Father always excused himself from whatever conversation was happening when you kids all went to bed. He gave us to understand that he ALWAYS sang a bedtime song to you ... no matter what else what happening. I miss him too! CHEERS, Bob
