Subject: Folk Barbecue in SE London
From: Dave Bryant
Date: 28 May 03 - 11:10 AM

It's that time of year again. Linda (Essex Girl) and myself would like to announce that we will be holding our first Folk Barbecue of the year on Sunday, 8th June from 2pm onwards at Mottingham (near Eltham SE9).

For those of you that haven't been to one of these events, it's a "Bring and Burn" arrangement - you bring the Meat, Fish, Veggieburger etc. and we'll supply barbecues, Bread, Salad and other trimmings, plus 10 gallons of my homemade beer (5 of light bitter + 5 of Dark Treacle Porter/Old (loopy juice).

There will be a PA set up and anyone may perform or join in a jam session amplified or not.

Any wanting further details, please feel fee to PM me.

I have seen Mr K's new band the Knockholt Sausages - they're brilliant I believe this will be a warm up gig prior to their midsummer night extravaganza at knockholt a fortnight after!

We're a 10 minute walk from Mottingham Station, which is on the line from Charing + via Waterloo East, London Bridge, and Lewisham (for Docklands LR). Our address isn't really a secret it's:
12 Porcupine Close, Mottingham, SE9 3AE - Tel: 020 8857 1024.
You can find a map here.

Porcupine Close is a bit narrow for parking and we live right at the end of the close where vehicles need to turn round, so we'd be grateful if you'd park in Leysdown Rd, Mottingham Rd, or one of the other streets around. NB the turning from Court Road is "No Entry" to traffic as it is now one-way.

Please let us know if you intend to come as we need to have some sort of idea of numbers.

Richard - thanks for the PA offer, but I don't think we need any more power - and anyway I've got a 400w system if I want to use it.

I'd love to come and finally meet some other catters . I'm waiting to here on a possible gig that day- Hope it doesn't happen as I'd much rather be eating charcoal.
If i am free I'll be coming from SW London ( Kingston-ish) and driving so could give lifts. PM me if you need one.

But hopping (around) down in Kent sounds fun...

Thank you for your invite.
I recommend your Barby to anyone who has not been before. An excellent afternoon was had by all last year. It may well be an idea to take the Monday off work - especially hearing about the new ale which I cannot wait to sample.
Will also be great to hear your songs in the relaxed atmosphere of your superb garden.
I hear Woodsie will be performing along with Pat on harp - Well worth the trip to deepest Mottingham.
A great start to June - and only a couple of weeks away from Knockholt. What more can we ask for.

Be great if you can make it Terry - looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday. Linda has been prevailed upon to make another of her giant paellas, and the beer should be rather good. I'm thinking of holding a consecration ceremony for our new shed ! Let's hope that the weather is good - see you all there.

It might be a good idea to copy my earlier posting with the directions and map, just in case Mudcat goes down again.

BTW MMario - it might be Spaw's birthday, but I intend to light the barbecues with fire-lighters and a blow-torch, not some of the methods that Spaw has mentioned - especially as I've just built a new shed in the garden !

Well, Wasn't that fun!!

Despite the showery bits and the "fresh" breeze, the weather was sunny and the barbie fired up.

Dave's brews were up to the usual standard with 'Old Spiney' being my favourite, the other one needed another week or so under the stairs.

The garden was lovely as ever, the company pleasant and the PA loud - the only thing louder was Concorde flying over!

Thanks Dave, it was wonderful and I look forward to the next one where hopefully I won't be wired up and you can ravish me in the kitchen whilst Manitas is asleep again.
