Joe, I suspect the temp site will work with www.mudcat.org whenever they put www.mudcat.org ON it. That's what's happening to me - I get sent there (IP starts with 199.239...) but they haven't put stuff on it yet.

One thing I remember Max had to do when he moved Mudcat into his apartment was get the place wired, so maybe that's part of the delay. He's also got a whole fambly to move instead of just himself, and maybe he doesn't know people with trucks.

Max and Jeff are trying to set up a temporary Mudcat Website. I don't know if they will be able to use the usual Mudcat address, www.mudcat.org - or it it will be another one. If there is a temporary address, I'll make sure it gets posted at rec.music.folk. I'm sure Jon Freeman will post information about a temporary Mudcat site, if there is one. Jon runs two sites, http://www.folkinfo.org/, and The Annexe, http://www.jonbanjo.com/forum.

You may want to check out rec.music.folk while Mudcat is down. Go to www.google.com and select "groups." Then enter rec.music.folk. To post, you have to register with Google.

Oh, and I doubt that it will take Max ten days to move himself and his family - but it will take at least that much time to set Mudcat up in a new location, with a new Internet line and all that. Think about the challenge of moving Mudcat, PLUS all the effort and time it takes to move a family. I hope it all goes smoothly, Max.

Jenny, you don't need to (and please don't) re-register but you would need to log on there.

One thing to note is that the Annexe shares the cookie with the "emergency folkinfo site". This could have an impact for example to anyone who uses the Annexe and Folkinfo but has a different username or password on each site.

At the moment, the main folkinfo site seems to be doing OK and I'd prefer it, except when it is impossible to get to folkinfo that people use that one - jonbanjo.com/The Annexe is a much smaller site - a £50 per year cf £200 a year site...

Maybe I need to take a page from Max's book (and Mark's song!) and do a little packing up around here while the 'Cat is down. It might only move clutter to boxes, then to shelves or closets, but a little late spring cleaning wouldn't be amiss.

A question: if this move is taking 10 days, is travel of some distance implied, or just waiting for the new place to become available? Will the mailing address change? Just a short note re. folkinfo. The server it runs on has had periods of trouble lately. I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with my code (more likely someone else on the same server - eg. on the "Annexe server", we had some genius managing to keep 12 active db connections per page open - it killed us) and I'm only using fractions of my 500MB/ 7GB disk/bandwith limits but I'm not sure what would happen if I got much extra traffic.

As a just in case, and for emergencies only, Pip allows me to use a "backdoor" at http://www.jonbanjo.com/folkinfo/. I can't provide everything from there but at least the fourm and song database work - no tunes though.

Mudcat is going down tomorrow night for about 10 days. I'm moving, with very short notice, and just could not afford to offload 2GB of data that the Mudcat is, so I had no choice. We should go down in about 24 hours from this post. Pene Azul and I are working on a temp site to keep you from going crazy, but it won't be everything and that probably won't be up till Monday sometime. Sorry for such short notice, and sorry for so little detail, but that's all I got.
