Subject: James Gordon....great show!!! From: Little Hawk Date: 31 May 03 - 12:03 AM I saw Canadian folksinger James Gordon and bassist Sandy Horne at the Orillia Folk Society's Friday Folk concert tonight, and what a great show it was. James used to be part of a folk group called Tamarack, but I don't think Tamarack is around anymore. His songs go from the serious and moving to the funny and utterly weird. He's got one about old ladies knitting sweaters for Penguins caught in oil slicks (a true story!) and it's very funny. He's got another one about making hats out of road kill. Then he's got some fine antiwar songs, and some others that sound like old traditional numbers...wonderful stuff. Sandy, on bass guitar, is a great performer in her own right, and used to be in a very successful pop band in the 80's, but is now doing folk music with James. This was a terrific show, and I encourage all my friends in the USA to see them when they're touring south of the border. You won't be disappointed. (I hope I got Sandy's name right from brief memory...if not, my apologies to Sandy.) - LH |

From: black walnut Date: 31 May 03 - 08:53 AM Just for the record, James Gordon has moved on to a solo career, but Tamarak is still quite alive: "Tamarack is a trio consisting of Alex Sinclair (guitar, mandolin, vocals), Molly Kurvink (bass guitar, vocals) and Duncan Cameron (violin, mandolin, concertina, bodhran, pennywhistle, guitar, bazouki, vocals)" ~ from the Tamarak website, http://www.interlog.com/~pmsinc/ . ~black walnut |
