Hi all

Just hoping someone could point me in the direction of the "So Do I" lyrics by Wally Page as recorded by Christy Moore.

It begins with,"This is the day the fisherman likes...."

Thanks

Divil

From HERE.
                SO DO I
                     By Wally Page

This is the day the fisherman likes
And so do I
When the rain puts a shine on the chestnut spikes
Hear the Curlews cry
The Nightingale sings her best
We'll drink a pint in Hamilton's rest
And the girl I love wore a muslin dress
And the Fisherman dreams of the sun in the west
And so do I
And so do I

Now I can see
Since the girl I love dearly
Has cast her loving spell on me

This is the day the Cuckoo likes
And so do I
When the hills fall down in different shapes
And the swallows fly
To a hidden beach where boats can't go
Mountain rivers overflow
I hear the squealing of the seagulls
As off home they go
And so do I
And so do I

Now I can see
Since the girl I love dearly
Has cast her loving spell on me

I'll cross the seven oceans
Forever more I'll wander
Till she has cast her loving spell on me

This is the day the fisherman likes
And so do I
When the rain puts a shine on the chestnut spikes
Hear the Curlers cry
The Nightingale sings her best
We'll drink a pint in Hamilton's rest
And the girl I love wore a muslin dress
And the Fisherman dreams of the sun in the west
And so do I
And so do I

And so do I
And so do I
~Masato

Masato, I don't believe it - I did a search for this on the off-chance & you've got it all sorted, thanks!!!

Not sure I've ever heard a Curler cry though...........

Curlew - Any of several brownish, long-legged shore birds of the genus Numenius, having long, slender, downward-curving bills. :-)

I know what you meant, My Guru Always Said, but I'm sure it is a typo in the posted lyrics, not your post. :-) The idea of a curler (as in someone who slides rocks/stones on ice) showing up in the last chorus (compare first and last verses) is a reach, eh? I'm merely seconding your astute observation.

Gest: Glad we're on the same wavelength but I was thinking of the curler that would be used for curling hair (I hasten to add that I've never used them), maybe it's the scream from the person who's hair is being unravelled..... :0)

Sorry to drift Masato!

I'm surprised that nobody, as far as I can tell, has pointed out that Wally Page was inspired to write this great song by a poem by Thomas Hardy.   You'll find the poem here -Weathers by Thomas Hardy
