Subject: RE: Lyr Req: MANSION ON THE HILL From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 10 Jun 03 - 05:55 PM Hi Joe, Audry's story also became a part of the movie "Your Cheating Heart". I've also seen where Wes Rose claimed it never happened that way at all. He said that he was with his father when they met Hank for the first time. They knew who Hank was and what he could do. They were expecting him; He didn't just walk in of the street. Sandy |

—Audrey Williams- from Sing Your Heart Out, Country Boy (Dorothy Horstman, 1975, 1996). The copyright on the song is 1948, by Milene-Oporyland Music, inc. Songwriters listed are Hank williams and Fred Rose. As far as I can tell, the lyrics are exactly what Masato posted. Looks like we'll have to correct songwriter attribution in the Digital Tradition. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: MANSION ON THE HILL From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 09 Jun 03 - 09:04 PM It's in the DT showing a Jim Reeves copyright. ( If you believe that you will probably also believe that I wrote Your Cheating Heart.) :-} Sandy |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: MANSION ON THE HILL From: kendall Date: 09 Jun 03 - 08:02 PM I learned it from Hank Williams. I may have had the lineup of the verses out of line, but, they are all there. In such a song, it doesn't matter if the verses are switched around. In a story song, it would. I don't type very well, and it is a chore to do this, so, when I post a song, I always say I am going to before I do it. That way, it should serve as notice that I am going to, and it irritates me to go to the bother only to have someone come in after I post, and post the same song. Plus, I'm crabby. Get over it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: MANSION ON THE HILL From: jaze Date: 09 Jun 03 - 09:29 AM Emmylou Harris does a song called "Mansion On The Hill" on her "At The Ryman" cd. It was written by Bruce Springsteen and from the Nebraska lp. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: MANSION ON THE HILL From: masato sakurai Date: 09 Jun 03 - 09:12 AM I posted Hank's version because it's different from Kendall's. Was it redundant? ~Masato |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: MANSION ON THE HILL (Kendall) From: GUEST, GEST Date: 09 Jun 03 - 08:46 AM Kendall asked, "Why do people post lyrics that have just been posted by someone else?" My reply: To show arrangement variations in the lyrics of a song, perhaps by different artists. In the case above, to add additional stanzas. Sometimes, posts are made practically simultaneously, so posters may not even be aware of the first post when making their own . :-) |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: MANSION ON THE HILL From: Mooh Date: 09 Jun 03 - 07:29 AM I love this song, but in true Mudcat tradition I have to mention that there is an entirely different song by the same name by Neil Young...don't know if William Shatner ever covered either one... Peace, Mooh. |
Subject: Lyr Add: A MANSION ON THE HILL From: masato sakurai Date: 08 Jun 03 - 09:54 PM "A Mansion On The Hill" (audio) is HERE (HONKYTONK'S Country Classics). Hank's version is: Tonight down here in the valley I'm lonesome and oh, how I feel As I sit here alone in my cabin I can see your mansion on the hill. Do you recall when we parted The story to me you revealed You said you could live without love, dear In your loveless mansion on the hill. I've waited all through the years, love To give you a heart true and real 'Cause I know you're living in sorrow In your loveless mansion on the hill. The lights shine bright from your window The trees stand so silent and still I know you're alone with your pride, dear In your loveless mansion on the hill. ~Masato |
