Have to post the link because I don't know how to open two screens at once. Found the following lyrics online.

Subject: Lyr Add: FROM PIZZA TOWERS TO DEFEAT (C Carroll)
From: Jim Dixon

I'm guessing Kottke got this from Corky Carroll, a professional surfer as well as a recording artist. Wikipedia says this song was released as a single in 1979, but it's also on a recent album. I found it on Spotify. Here's how I think I hear it:

FROM PIZZA TOWERS TO DEFEAT
As sung by Corky Carroll on "A Surfer for President" (2016)

1. Well, you’ve been takin' the tequila up until the after-hours,
But you don’t have to take it to heart;
And you’ve been takin' the menudo from the back of Pizza Towers.
That was the beginning of the start;
But it’s been five long years since you robbed that train to Chico.
Now you’re in the back of a truck;
But that’s what’s from robbin' that last train to Chico,
So go home, and Enrico, good luck.

2. Well, you’ve been takin' the tequila up until the after-hours,
But you don’t take it to heart;
And now there's no intruders in the back of Pizza Towers.
You've been hangin' 'round the Thrifty Mart;
Oh, but a man's gotta eat or he goes to defeat,

And now you’re in the back of a truck;
But that’s what’s from robbin' that last train to Chico.,
So go home, and Enrico, good luck.

REPEAT VERSE 1.

You’ve been stealing avenudo
From the back of Pizza Towers
That was the beginning of the start
You’ve been taking the tequila
Up until the after-hours
But don’t you take it too far

CHORUS
It’s been five long years
Since you robbed the train to Chico
Now you’re in the back of a truck
But that’s what’s from robbing
The last train to Chico
So goodbye, and Enrico, good luck

Did you speak to Richard Nixon
By that plane in San Berdu?
Tell him he relied on blush too much?
Did he smile and say he loved you?
Was he wearing high-heeled shoes?
Was his pardon for your felonies?
A crutch

CHORUS

Nothing on the Unofficial Leo Kottke Web Site with that phrase. Remember anything else?

Aloha,
