Subject: RE: ROBIN HOOD From: Lanfranc Date: 07 Dec 00 - 06:40 PM What a shame that, with all the traditional ballads that there are about Robin Hood, this is the only such song everyone (in the UK at least) seems to remember. A flip through Child or Percy would come up with a couple of dozen better examples of RH stories. Never mind, at least it's not "Whatever I Do (I do it for you)" that's being asked for (yet). Oh, and by the way "Christmas is cancelled!" |

Subject: RE: ROBIN HOOD From: GUEST,Fibula Mattock Date: 08 Dec 00 - 05:49 AM Robin Hood In the nude Riding through the glen Friar Tuck Ran like f**k And told the Merry Men A childhood parody, but hey! That makes it folk! |

Subject: RE: ROBIN HOOD From: Midchuck Date: 08 Dec 00 - 11:10 AM Isn't this, in a way, what defines a "folk song?" The fact that it's lurking in the back of everyone's mind, and parodies pop out all over? Even though it was obviously written as a straight commercial proposition? Peter. |

Subject: RE: ROBIN HOOD From: GUEST,dan evergreen Date: 08 Dec 00 - 11:12 AM Here's a poem from the preface of an old version of the Robin Hood Legend I once found: "Robin . . . Robin . . . Robin . . ." His merry band of thieves Echo as the bugle note Shivers through the trees, Calling as they used to call, Faint and far away, In the heart of Sherwood, At the break of day." |
